Thanks be to our Lord Jesus that we can still have Christian R E lessons prayers. There are still some sensible grown ups at last.

Who'd have thought that prayer in schools, Christian assembly and RE in schools would be threatened. I remember it well. Long may it continue. 🙏

Bravo! Things really went downhill when they stopped RE in our schools. I used to love singing hymns at morning assembly

I'm sorry you have such a negative view of Religious Education and the benefits of Christian teaching in schools Gemma. If your experiences of such were negative we can only apologise. As a primary school teacher in N.I. I am glad of the opportunity to share the ethos and life lessons of christianity with my pupils. When they reach KS3 they will learn about a variety of world religions, as this is age appropriate; they may find common ground in these faiths and they will definitely see differences. Whether they as individuals choose to follow Christ in a personal faith is something they will decide for themselves. Most people in N.I. and the U.K. have chosen not to in recent decades. The rejection of God, Jesus and his teaching has had a negative impact on society in general and we daily witness a level of brokenness which is unprecedented. Furthermore, ignorance of any subject is never a good thing, including Christianity, which has had such an impact on our history and cultural texture. Education and exposure to worship is not threatening since The Lord gave us all brains to think for ourselves and reach our own choice regarding faith or lack of it. If it has been a programme of indoctrination in our schools then it has not been a very successful one as, sadly, so few people go on to believe and practise the Christian faith. True indoctrination leaves no room for anything else and that is not what we do in our schools in the controlled sector. We share biblical truth and leave children to decide for themselves... no-one is forced to believe, which is the thrust of indoctrination. Again, if people have had a bad experience that's regrettable but not the norm. I think we are moving into a post christian era and the future looks bleak for that reason, but God does not change and even if people don't care about Him, He still cares about them. If they don't believe in Him, He still believes in them and their potential to live in this world as His friends. He is very patient and He is very real. I am thankful for today's ruling.

We should not be subsidising religious indoctrination at the taxpayer's expense. Religious education is good, provided its comparative and broad, not focused on any one religion.
