Hey Lindsay, quick questions. I stopped working in late February. I never put in an unemployment claim because I was afraid to and uneducated about it. I just recently put in my claim in the beginning of June. I received a response via my online portal and it states that I have a “claim balance” and a “weekly benefit amount”. Here is the question: is it the amount in the claim balance, which is around 11k, what is owed to me? And is the weekly benefit amount what is going to be given to me until I find a new job?

Hi!✨ My question is, what weeks are we getting paid for? **example: I got paid today 6/23. So did I get paid for the weeks (5/25 -6/7) or for the weeks I JUST completed (6/8 - 6/21)? It seems like it’d be more accurate to receive the payment for the 2 weeks prior. Considering I just filed my claim for the past 2 weeks and it seems like it wouldn’t be processed yet.

As soon as you report the pension in the week that your husband receives it, EDD should stop your claim and do an interview to see if it's deductible. If it is not, they will let you know that you will still get full benefits. Military pension normally isn't deductible but that is just my take. I could be wrong.

I’m paying out of my pocket to go to a small trucking school in CA using my EDD/unemployment benefits. Should I notify them I’m attending school when Im doing my weekly certification? Please answer lol. Will they withhold my benefits until they verify everything?
@lindseydo63033 жыл бұрын
If you are attending school on the normal hours in which you could be working, meaning that if going to school would place restrictions on you accepting work, this will result in a disqualification for edd money. If it does not restrict you from finding the normal work you usually do, or you are still working then you should still get unemployment. Reporting yes on question number 5 would stop your claim until they interview you. Hope this helps.

@@lil_wooddale44if you are still looking for work and are ready to accept work in your normal working hours, then you should be qualified. But they might disqualify you for 2 days of work every week and reduce your edd $ because you are not available for work when you are in school.

I work at a Publix with reduce hours but Publix handed us 100$ gift cards but the thing is that they took out taxes. For example I work 20 hours get paid 13.85 multiply that and it’s 277 and including the 100$ gift card it’s 377 it’s added to my gross pay. Should I just put 277 or 377? I’m not sure because I had no idea they took out taxes at first and I put in 277 what is going to happen now?

I have a full-time office job and a part-time job as a server and I put that into the EDD website because both of my jobs popped up when I was first filing my claim and I put in my earnings for the annual term and they approve me for 450. I was still employed at my full-time job at the office position but I was furloughed as a part-time server and then now I'm being called back on a part-time basis for my server position. (Not my full hours) So my question is what I'm certifying for number 6 on the form about the pay and mark the box yes another box opens up with both my jobs listed. I am confused about how answer the full time job question because the option drop down box does not give me the option of not having lost the job and I'm not sure how to fill that box out for the drop-down because none of the drop-down fits my description, because I was never laid off that job I'm not sure how to correctly answer that question do I just put in the box return-to-work benefits not needed for the job that I was not laid off of and is that going to disqualify me for the other part-time server position that I was furloughed and then now not getting my full hours back?

Hello Lindsey - Question coming from good old California - Do I need to claim any Stock Sale (Capital Gains) or Crypto Sales (Capital Gains) when certifying for my weekly unemployment benefits. I sold some of my stock shares and crypto shares so I could pay off a loan that was keeping me from expanding my work search. I did not want to just figured if I had less money going out each month perhaps I could take a job that paid a little less to get me by or one that had growth potential and I could work my way back up to a Corporate level position and afford to take what they were offering. Doing this gives me some some breathing room as I find a new job / career due to Corporate Office I was working for going under due to the Pandemic. I did have the fiat from those sales transferred to my bank account and I did indeed pay off the loan. (Feels Good). I know that I will be paying short term capital gains tax on both the Stock and the Crypto I sold since I did not have it for longer then a year when I file my 2021 taxes. I just did not want to get into and legal trouble with the California EDD by not claiming that I received that amount of money on one of my weeks weekly certifications. I cannot seem to find a solid accurate answer and many other answers online are very confusing. I am totally okay with not receiving benefits for the week I sold. I just cannot afford to be disqualified completely till I find another job or get stuck paying back a portion. I would hate to have something happen that made me go backwards when I am working so hard to move forward. Any help with this would be fantastic.

The question is do I have to report it as it is not "Income" IT is a "Capital Gain" that is my question. I do not want to report it if I do not need to. There should only be one correct answer right.

I have a question before the pandemic I had 2 jobs. The first job I work for the local school district. Which I still work and get paid. My second job they had to close because of the pandemic. I applied for UI benefits and got an award letter saying I would get a total of 344 a week for both jobs. But only 100 a week for the second job, since I am still working for the 1st one. My question is this, when filling out the certification for benefits I am reporting my income for my 1st job and it keeps saying excessive pay and then I don't qualify for benefits that week. What am I doing wrong? Do I only report for the job that I am not working? I can't get a hold of them by phone and I submitted a question. But still haven't received a response.

This is a great video. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Maybe you can advise me. I live and worked in California as a Substitute Instrumental Classroom Aide. When the school closed and I was unable to work I applied and received biweekly payments. However the last time I certified i was only paid for week one. Week 2 is pending it has been. Because of COVID, the school I worked for is doing summer school online and very few Teachers will work. Substitutes like myself do not have an option to work at all during summer. I can not take jobs because of the pandemic changes let alone the school year ended now. Will I continue getting my benefits even when the official academic school year ended June 5? Last year I was able to take work assignments but this year I do not have an option to work. The week of June 6 was the last time I was paid last. I have been calling and sending email to resolve the pending issue however it goes ignored. I feel people like myself get cheated out. How can I at least get this pending issue resolved so I can apply for something else. I have major bills and can not work die to employment closures and school year ending

I made an application for unemployment and work share cut 10 hours a week from 04/19/20 to 05/31/20 I was unemployed and I applied for unemployment insurance. Unemployed until June 7, I received 2 payments for 2 weeks. the last weekend 06/20 and the first week 07/20 because I worked 23 years so they gave me 23 weeks of working money when I certify 2 weeks of paying money I wrote that I received my employer compensation I laid off (severance money) after claiming unemployment, they paid me 2 time and today they wrote notice of reduced earning and not continue to be certified..I have many friends who also got factory money for it. but they are not like me ... the question I want to know is that the money has stopped the unemployment benefits already? now because many unemployed people I can not call them should bother Lindsey and I hope Hope Lindsey tell me why not? Sincerely thank Lindsey.

I've been unemployed for 12 months. The unemployment system is requiring me to submit a "new" application. And now it is saying I can't qualify for unemployment because I have met the base payment requirements for last year...which is correct...because I am not employed and have not been so I have not earned wages last year. So does that mean if Congress extends unemployment to September, I will not be qualified for that extension?

Will i just be entering my sick pay and how will i enter those dates on the pay day week right? It just made me certify 10 to 16 and 17 to 23. My last working day was 22th. So i reported all the hours i worked in those two weeks already. The thing is i dont get paid until the 5th. I certified for the week 1 of 4/25/2020 and week 2 of 5/02/2020, but I returned to work on the 27 of April. How do I close my claim? When I did my application, I added a return date as well. What happens next or what do I do?
@lindseydo63034 жыл бұрын
If you returned to full time work the week of 5/2, you do not qualify for ui $ and should have reported wages. If they pay you by accident, you will need to contact edd and tell them you made a mistake. Weeks after that, you can stop filling out forms and you wont be paid
@lakers24ldw4 жыл бұрын
@@lindseydo6303 I was laid off from work from April 13 to April 27. So I applied for compensation during those weeks. I added on my edd that I returned on the 27th. Now that I returned, how do I notify edd so I won't be paid again and again? I did qualify for ui as well. They paid me from Week 1 to week 2.

How severance pay amount should be reported during certification process: in gross or net?
@lindseydo63034 жыл бұрын
Gross pay. Severance pay is not deductible but EDD still needs you to report it just in case it's in lieu of notice pay or other bonuses that are deductible. Expect an interview.

They will interview you for pension. It may be deductible or not depending on your pension. Are u receiving monthly?

I am in California. Let's say my total claim balance is for $6500.00, How much taxes should I expect to pay on that?
@lindseydo63034 жыл бұрын
I'm not a tax person. I'd say save 10% or check the box on the claim form to have your taxes withheld. Pls subscribe

Lindsey Do I have Subscribed ✔️ I have 1 more question. Someone I know applied for unemployment but instead of receiving retroactive payments from March (when they were affected) they only received it for the last 2 weeks. However in my case they gave me it all the way back to March while we both applied on the same day with similar situations. Why is this and what can she do to help herself?
@Romeo5624 жыл бұрын
i applied for edd i got accepted into the system. they said my payout would be $450. for week 1 and week 2 they send me a paper certification instead of email..i made a mistake on one of the question if i made any earnings for those 2 weeks.i put no instead of yes. then i got disqualified for those 2 weeks i sent them a email and mail of my correction on march 17( no response) i used to work 40 hours but now im working 20 hours is there anything else i can do to correct this??? :((i tried calling for past 2 weeks no luck at all. thank you for your time

Hi so I’m experiencing a dilema. I started streaming after loosing my job and I never reported the income I got as a streamer independent contractor. I didn’t know I had to report that so I’m reporting it now. It’s making me really nervous because genuinely did not know. Any advice?

Hi Lindsey, thanks for putting together the content! You might have covered this in another video, but can you confirm the following: If self employed and Question 3 was marked Yes (thank you for noting EED’s automated system flags this and might delay the claim if marked no), do we have to complete Section B?
@lindseydo63034 жыл бұрын
Section b or work search does not need to be fill out. You can press next.

Hi Lindsey, I heard if your PTO time that you are paid out, if your PTO Plan, allows you to use it other than just vacation pay, ..ie: if you can use it for xtravdays off, or if you early out let's say 2 hours early, you can use it for that, or take a personal day, then you do not have to report it as income on your weekly unemployment claim...are you aware of the statute??

Mine was the same for a false statement. Allied March 20th. I didn't get a determination letter either. No luck getting thru either on the phone or via email.

I went back to work this Tuesday the 5th and only worked 4 days this week. Will I still be able to claim 1 more benefit today? I wouldn’t be getting paid from work till the 20th of May
@lindseydo63034 жыл бұрын
You should still fill out your claim form since 4 days is less than full time but you need to report your wages for 4 days Even though you will be paid later. Report wage on the week you actually work, not when you are paid. Pls subscribe
