I brought my Grandmother & we visited Ghana in 2006. She was in her 70's & she did better than most of our tour. She embarrassed me often 🤣...bc I was tired & had to stop to get my breath, but she never did. I'm moving to Ghana w/in 1 - 3 years. I can't wait!

I feel good when I see African Americans visiting Africa. Im a Kenyan in the US and I always wished many AA would visit the continent to understand their history. Heck, all other cultures visit their ancestral homes but when it comes to blacks, seeds of fear and suspicion are planted. We can overcome.

My fellow Kenyan , am smiling to see the interaction… it’s always hard to have that conversation here in the USA with our brothers and sisters but am encouraged coz the ones who go home come back and will start the conversation over here and by the way your name sounds familiar give me a clue where you went to school I mean primary and high school. Just the city .

When we made the remark I'm saying to someone that you never been a slave is basically excusing slavery altogether. Even though I have never been I like many African-Americans still carry the attributes of my ancestors that were enslaved. Our names have been stripped along with our language been separated from the land where that we have no country of our own we are continually reminded that we are only citizens and until this day we do not walk and equal harmony with the offspring's of those who enslaved our people. Please do not make that statement to our brothers and sisters and say we have not been enslaved as if we have not inherit a struggle of oppression 🌄🦍
@africanadage852
@africanadage852 Жыл бұрын
@ Black Diamond. Having listened to Jay Cameron for a while, think his thoughts are far from denigrating his ancestry. My take on that statement was ' you may be part of a slave history but YOU are free and have never been one. Your ancestors will identify directly to slavery through experience, of which you connect through keeping that memory alive '. Disclaimer though, this is my take and I could be wrong.
@natalieac8409
@natalieac8409 Жыл бұрын
I'm actually glad that he said that because I feel the same way. Many black Americans walk around with a chip on their shoulder as if they know exactly what it's like to be enslaved, but they don't. It is a huge difference in being a slave as opposed to living with the affects of your ancestors being slaves. You are not living their lives. It diminishing the trauma of what they actually went through to say so. Too many AA speak on it like they know, but hopefully they never will. One direct example of the difference it that they were enslaved and desperately wanted to be free to go back to Africa. Many black Americans today, enslaved in their minds despise the notion of identifying with Africa. It's a totally different mindset.
@blackdiamond306
@blackdiamond306 Жыл бұрын
@@natalieac8409 It's a different time altogether our ancestors are not living our lives as well. The statement I'm making that you can't seem to comprehend you are not free of the atrocities as well as the abuse of my taking on. Maybe it seemed so much easier today for you because you do not have the physical chains and you seem to be able to move as you see fit. Well I think you should dig deep there's many places still today you cannot exist here in America without being lynched. You still have a justice system that is clearly bias where we have a unwritten Whitelaw black law we even have law enforcement with separate police unions. The slave-catchers work pretty much the same way that they did back in the days of my ancestor the prison industrial system is stacked with black bodies while almost monthly there are innocent black men I'm being exonerated after the fact most after there best years have been behind bars. You suffered beatings rapes and killing behind those bars so for those who have been wrongfully charged I'm sure slavery would have been easier then sitting on death row. That being said there are those who are guilty and deservingly should be behind bars but there's a system that provides such an inadequate situation for black men and it diverts them with a much higher percentage of being put behind or even given a criminal record. I'm not here to be long-winded to your response. But you have been stripped of something that no other race have ever endured whether you are intelligent enough to know it. So the next time whenever you see another minority speaking their native language remember yours was taken as well as your true knowledge of self who are your people what was the religion that was taking. 🤨❓

The thing Jamaicas should know is that most of the Marouns are of Fante descent, and not Asante. Just like the people of Kromanti (Cromanti) in Jamaica who are descendants of Fanteland (Kormantse to be specific), many others were moved from Fanteland due to their rebellion against the slave trade. Read about Queen Naana (anglicised as Queen Nanny), Ansah Sasraku and King Takyi who led a revolt in Jamaica against slavery. There were all Fante. The problem is that most of you don't know the ethnic make-up of Ghana. You don't know the difference between Ashanti and the larger Akan ethnic group. You think Akan is the same as Ashanti. Please take time and learn, so you don't create confusion.
