We need to get back to the mindset that cultural cross-pollination and shared experiences help bring people together and enlighten everyone immeasurably. It also reminds you that we are all just people, regardless of location, language, or heritage. I love these videos because these people are choosing to share their experiencing new things with us, and it’s beautiful.

@@retardant8039 No they’re not. From Wikipedia: “A submarine sandwich, also known as a sub, hoagie, hero, or grinder, is a type of sandwich made from a cylindrical bread roll split lengthwise and filled with meats, cheeses, vegetables, and condiments. It has many different names.” Further regarding the hoagie from Wikipedia: “The hoagie roll is used to prepare the Philadelphia cheesesteak sandwich and various other submarine sandwiches. The terms submarine and sub are widespread and not assignable to any certain region, though many of the localized terms are clustered in the northeastern United States.” Hoagies are sub sandwiches.
@MGmirkin
@MGmirkin 4 жыл бұрын
When Babu said "it looks like a 'marine'," I assume he means like a "submarine"? If so, that's where our name "sub sandwich" comes from (we just split the word "sub"-"marine" the other way)... Which is where "Subway" got its name from, too, I'm pretty sure. Funnily enough "subway" is also a term for an underground railroad system we use for transit. But pretty sure "subway" [the food chain] named itself after sub[marine] sandwiches more-so than the underground rail system? Though, granted, subway rail cars are also long kind of tubular things, so I suppose it's possible that the name could have come metaphorically from that. But the original "sub sandwich" was, I believe, based off of "submarine" rather than "subway [rail cars]..." Anyway, whether one calls them sub, or hoagies, they're delicious nonetheless! ^_^

Showing them so much new technology and taking them on trips, showing them things the never seen before. You guys are really fantastic letting these people experiment things the never dreamed off. I'm so impressed with this show and I thank you so much for doing these things for them. Love watching when the eat foods the never heard of. When you tell them the name in English, I'm so surprised how well the pronounce the names in English. Babu always asking if he can eat and taste the food before he will try it. We all could learn from his politeness. You are such nice and good people letting them eat and showing them things the never seen before. I gladly would give you all 100 more thumbs up. I didn't see this show from the beginning. Sure would like to know how this all started. Just because these people are very simple and humble people, they seem to be quite smart. @CommonManShow 4 жыл бұрын

@MGmirkin
@MGmirkin 4 жыл бұрын
Correct! :) We've made "open face" grilled tuna and cheese sandwiches before. Delicious. Basically, canned [or packet-packed (in water, preferably)] tuna, with mayonnaise, or Miracle Whip, mixed in, is typically how we'd prepare the tuna, and then typically eat it 'cold' in a sandwich with cheese, or else we'd make a "grilled tuna and cheese" sandwich by grilling the sandwich in a pan with butter on both outside bread faces, until the cheese melts and the bread is browned. Or for an "open face" grilled tuna and cheese, we'd slice a loaf of bread down the middle horizontally, cut it into sections layer tuna on the top cut face, and then sliced cheese on top of that, then broil it briefly in the oven until the cheese melts and maybe browns a little bit. Then we'd eat it warm while the cheese is still gooey / stringy. Cheddar is great, or mozarella, or a little of both. Can also use grated cheese in place of sliced, and mix cheddar + mozarella. Delicious. Gotta' be careful with the tuna / mayo, though, as mayo doesn't "keep" very well, so needs to be refrigerated properly once opened, and anything made with it, like tuna needs to be eaten promptly while cold (with any left-overs refrigerated and eaten promptly as well), or cooked well (as with grilled tuna & cheese). If the mayo spoils, it's pretty easy to get some gnarly 'food poisoning...'

When I think of these sandwiches (I know them as either "Submarine" (Babu caught onto that comparison) or "Hero" sandwiches...the name varies regionally) I think of them having more Italian style bread and fillings. A crustier bread and Italian meats (I realize that the pork and beef based meats are probably not appropriate for your tasters), cheeses, and cured veggies. I was once in Florence, Italy and went to a sandwich and wine bar frequented by locals (always talking politics, of course). It was run by two brothers, one of whom spoke English. I asked them to just make me sandwiches they thought would be good and pair wine with it. Those were some of the best meals I have had. Cured meat, cheese, cured veggies, and crusty bread are amazing.

Hello my dear brothers! Greetings from Alexandria Virginia USA. Where I live, they're called Sandwiches. A "Hogie" is bigger and longer than 12 inches. There's a sandwich called: Big Max, it's about 2 feet long and 4 inches high. This is what truckers eat! Enjoy

Only a handful of areas in the US use the word Hoagie. Southern NJ and Philly area being the biggest.

Baby totally got it (the name) right for New England, we call that kind of sandwich a "sub" or "submarine sandwich" here.🤗🤗🤗

The great thing about hoagies/subs or our version in Louisiana made with fried seafood po-boys. Is that you can easily get every food group and all of your daily nutrients into one meal that is easy to carry along on a hard day of work that can be eaten quickly on a short break. If you work 12 hours a day and only get 30 minutes to eat, a big heavy sandwich packed with meat cheese and vegetables is the perfect thing to have.

Wonderful! I did not know that chicken salami exists. Is yeast to make the bread readily available in their area?

Yeast is available but baking at home is not Common here. Neither they have clay oven nor electric oven

@@CommonManShow That would definitely make it more difficult... Makes sense, then, why they don't have bigger yeasty / risen / oven-baked breads.

I want to know what is on that "hoagie"! In my part of the country, we call it a "submarine". There is a restaurant chain called Subway that sells them.

Seeing Babu's reaction to cheddar, maybe he'd enjoy trying different types of cheese? Like brie, smoked gouda, or even american "cheese"!

Eating a sandwich with only one bread is called open face sandwich. Taste is improved, but is more messy. Sandwich is made to be easy to carry and eat. Ingredients are whatever you like.

Yeah, I was worried Babu would lose half the sandwich, from not holding it together at the back end. But next time you have a sub sandwich for them to try, please make sure to tell them this.
@MGmirkin

Also, cut in half or thirds. 6 inch sub is *much* more manageable than an un-cut foot-long. ;) Subway always cuts their foot-longs into 2x 6-inch sandwiches and then wraps them together for convenience.

Why you don't tell grandpa who says marine that it is also called a submarine sandwich after the underwater marine craft. In USA we go to subway to get it.

In response to how filling hoagies are: most people eat them for dinner; those who eat them for lunch tend to eat something lighter for dinner because they're still full from the sandwich. And I love how Pummy talked about how she could make it for her family; if she did make her version of it, I'm sure they loved it.

Hoagie is a name for it in some parts of the US, generally it's just called a subway sandwich, not to be confused with a sub from Subway (sub is short for submarine, because it's shaped like the old ones) (:
