I love that moment between Troy and Annie. And I appreciate they had him say no one did anything that bad, it felt like a more nuanced take on the bar scene than the normal extremes of idolizing or demonizing it.

In America, as long as you are turning 21 that night at midnight, most bars will be cool to let you in. Also, at the end there, the implication of Troy not drinking was more towards the fact that he realized he was the designated driver at that point, since everyone else had been drinking. He had to grow up and be more responsible due to everyone else overduing it and chasing Shirley off by being a little mean, who was the only other sober driver.

So happy to stumble on your page, I noticed you said how cause hes 20, most places in America will let someone 20 turning 21 at midnight into the bar, there are also a lot of bars in America where 18 and older can go in they just only give wrist band to 21 and up, depends on the state and bar, I think they just kind of ignored it for the plot line about Annie

I mean, Pierce kind of has to be in the chair for a while. Both his legs were broken. And since each season is a school year, he has to remain in a wheelchair as long as it actually takes to heal from it (or at least a believable amount of time). Wouldn't make sense if he was only in a wheelchair for 2 eps and this one only makes the 3rd. 🤷🏻‍♀

It makes sense for the story, but there are some behind-the-scenes reasons as well. Chevy Chase has been known to be difficult to work with for decades, but Dan Harmon proved over the course of the show to be just as difficult. That's partly why he ended up getting fired from the show he created after season 3. It got so bad between Chevy and Harmon that at one of the end-of-season wrap parties (maybe season 1), Harmon played some of Chevy's voicemails complaining about things for everyone to hear, which you can imagine did wonders for their relationship. And Harmon had a hard time separating his animosity towards Chevy from how Pierce was written as things went along.

@@michaelw8262 Not quite right. At the season 3 wrap party Harmon lead a chant of "fuck you, Chevy" in front of the cast and crew including Chevy and his family. Later on Chevy left Dan a voicemail saying how angry he was at Dan. But that wasn't what got Dan fired. Not long after on his Harmontown podcast/live show Dan played Chevy's voicemail for the crowd and thats what got him fired. Amongst the other stuff. This is when Harmon's drinking was at its worst. He also thought that Community was going to be cancelled after season 3 so I think he thought "what the hell". But a lot of people forget that when Chevy left Community in season 4 Harmon wasnt even running the show.

All of Season 2 is great! I think this episode does an underwhelming job highlighting Shirley’s trying to better herself after her struggles when Andre left her. The writers were great at comedic moments, but they didn’t get Shirley’s genuineness right when it came to her faith. Everyone else is a mix of caricature and genuine confliction over their flaws & growth, but Shirley gets much less growth over the 6 seasons… just my take. Also, I can’t wait for you to post episode 14, “Advanced Dungeons & Dragons”! Seriously considering Patreon just to get there sooner.

yeah, I really get the idea that the writers didn't really know how to write Shirley. It's such a shame because Yvette Nicole-Brown is genuinely very talented and funny. We do get hints of a more interesting and complex character, it just would have been nice to get something more substantial
