This is one of my personal faves. The episode is so sweet. And the two separate storylines mix together well, with the "parents" (Jeff and Britta) getting upset with Pierce.

Hey Unpaid Rentals, I totally agree with you! That episode was so good and really hit the emotional notes, especially with Shirley’s storyline. Abed’s film-making was such a cool touch-I love when they bring that into the show. And the humor was spot on; the corny jokes were actually pretty endearing. Jeff as the dad and Pierce acting like a kid were hilarious! You’re right, the episode really did focus on Shirley and her development. Great review, as always. I’m definitely hitting that like and subscribe button. Can’t wait for your next video! Peace out!

One thing that's funny about the cold opening with the youtube stuff, is that Donald Glover's start was a comedy group that were like.. some of the earliest earliest videos to go viral. Derrick Comedy. In fact a couple of those DC people were sprinkled throughout these Community episodes (remember when Pierce hired a group of writers to write jokes for him when watching bad movies? All of them were in DC).

My favorite part of this episode is the Abed and Shirley music, I'm not sure if you caught it. It took me a few watches before I realized there was Shirley music during that last scene

The funniest part is that apparently some people accused Community of "cultural appropriation" by playing "Stereotypical Eastern Music" without realising it was literally just the characters names being sung. It just goes to show that the real racists were the outraged people we found along the way.

I love this episode! The family dynamics with Jeff, Pierce, and Britta are amazing. Abed and his movie make me think of Mel Gibson's self important, arrogant attitude while making and marketing "The Passion of the Christ" while Shirley's self important arrogance while protecting her understanding of the story turns her clearly into a pharisee. Yet she becomes the christ figure for Abed as she answers his prayer by taking the public blame for destroying Abed's "horrible" movie before anyone can see it, saving Abed's reputation and destroying her own. No one but Abed knows what she did for him. As a former christian, the story hit home for me. Shirley stops legalistically defending the letter of the story and instead embodies the heart of the story, sacrificing herself for her friend. And Abed totally nails the way Jesus answers questions in the new testament.
