Hi, Just watched your video and it was helpful. Right now my mom us living in an Independent Living apartment and mentioned she wanted to know more about another facolity that her friend is moving to. The place that her friend is moving to offers only Assisted Living and Memory Care. For a studio in Assisted Living it starts at $5,500 per month and $6.550 per month for a 1 BR. The community fee is equivalent to 1 month's rent which both my mom and I find is exhorbitant. My question is that if a person moves into Independent Living, why is it more expensive than just renting a regular apartment plus one wouldn't be charged a community fee by moving into a regular apartment complex. That just seems like price gouging on an epic scale because if the fee is going toward cleaning of a unit that is something that would be expected ecen if one was moving into a regular apartment but one wouldn't be expecting to pay $5,600 on top of rent for a regular apartment so it serms this is just a way of taking advantage of seniors. Since I have POA for my mom's affairs I can't justify her moving into a place that has such high entrance fees plus high rent so I'm curious how places get away with trying to justify these burdensome costs when they wouldn't be expected to pay that kind of fee moving into a regular apartment. I'm interested in your thoughts on this. Thank you.

Jeff, I was charged an application fee of $25 and a community fee of $500 when I applied at a 55+ Independent Senior Living Community. I didn’t sign a contract and did not move in and do not plan to move in. I informed the facility two days after I applied that I wouldn’t be moving in. I’ve asked for the community fee be returned to me as I did not become a part of their community or use any of their services. What do you think about this situation? From listening to your video, it seems to me that community fees cover costs after a person moves in. .
