Oh gosh, couldn't agree more. Your grade school years are probably about the only time you will have genuine friends who like you for you. After the H.S. and college years are over, it is all downhill from there, and everything feels either transactional in nature, or you're just seen as a competitor for resources, status, attention from the opposite sex, etc. And yeah, it gets worse as you get older because people in America are very insular socially and only look out for the people in their social group that have known since first grade.

Community was replaced by pets and internet and cars. I see and interact with more dogs on a daily basis than I do children. Men are living in a dystopia right now, I don't know about anyone else. We can't interact with children, women and can barely interact with each other without problems and accusations cropping up. How did people think community was going to end up when every single person on the street now isn't approachable? I'm talking about all the cars. Back in the day on Ford model T, when cars and buggies and wagons were still used, pedestrians could greet and interact with people on the street, they didn't have Porche levels of acceleration and Mclaren top speeds and Ford Truck sizes. Now, you can't even see what people look like inside their cars. Everything is tinted, they are driving as fast as they possibly can, they will never leave the car, not even for police. All the streets and centers are completely designed for cars, you are being ran over anytime you try to walk anywhere, how could you possibly even have community?

My back neighbour have not taken down their really bright security lights, they spy on me through their windows and kitchen window. Their kids are awfully bad to, the adults are just as worse in that house. They have been stalking me for over a decade. I am just chilling listening to music to block out the noise they make. I am the silent type which pisses them of even more, I informed the council here in England about their really bright lights and the police about their behaviour. My friend they used to follow me around the neighbourhood when I was in my youth but now if I keep to myself and move in silence they won't bother me much, isn't it awful living next to complete losers. They have been bothering me for over a decade, however I won't move, we have lovely other neighbours who have to put up with this creep. I will stay low key for the foreseeable future. Moving for me is not a option because I love the house and I like most of the good neighbours. I've stopped going clubbing and going to the pubs because of gang stalking. It's riddled in small cities and towns where I live. So I don't venture out to much and I keep to myself loads these days. I live next to a bunch of freaks, for a back neighbour. It’s the economy. None of my friends are going to pay my bills or help me retire. That’s why. During Covid I was living off the grid in Alaska and never felt happier in my life. I was so in tune with nature. Moose would often sleep right outside of my cabin. When I had to come back to Colorado for family reasons I have never been so miserable. Money is the only thing that matters to people. Money is the why behind literally everything. It’s very tiring. If I didn’t have a child to raise I would go back to Alaska and grow/hunt for food.

Great insight. Living in the UK. I was so desensitised by the matrix, mainstream media, coorporations their pushing agendas and to the hustle and bustle of life, which felt isolating. Then moved to the country where I experienced that sense of community again. When I initially came back to the city I was irritated and annoyed by how different it was. But now I realise there is community everywhere, you only see it, when you know what it looks like in the type of people that embrace a sense of community. We need to connect organically as humans again.

We're no longer stuck with just the people who share our geographic location. There are other ways to have community. I don't know where you are, but I live in a high-density state in the Mid-Atlantic. And no, you can't just sit on your front stoop and have friends now. But I have far more diverse folks to form my community from. And maybe look at yourself and see what you do that limits your community. It's there if you want to find it.

As a 21 year old black kid this is something I noticed for a long time when I look outside nobody is walking the streets, no communication, everybody is in their cars going to work and the kids are either at school or at home playing video games or tik tok. Even our neighbors barely communicate with each other we just keep to ourselves and go to work. America is not a "Home" it is a business and the only way to get a sense of community is being a part of some club. People have never wanted anything to do with me unless they needed something from me I am so tired of these fake opportunists.

I think that the hypothesis about people having a societal need was sufficiently empirically disproven. Why? Because it appears that people needed each other only because of lack of other mediums of communication. The societal need was simply that - a need, obfuscating some other needs (to boast, to get money or resources etc). Once all of that became sufficiently available and clearly regulated without people, people stopped to use other people for that. Another kind of communities could arise in the future - just like in late bronze societies (which were pretty stratified too) conspiracies and cults arisen based on love and meritocracy instead of cronyism and castes. However, since we all now live in a very big worldwide society, the process would start... well... not so soon.

Too much company bring too many variables for me. Life is hard enough, but to be surrounded by others with their own agendas, mind of their own, and that you can never predict their RANDOM behavior... is a variable that some people dont need worrying and weighing them down. I'm a very proud introvert. As the saying goes, "I can do bad all by myself". Even in the military, others have gotten me into so much drama and negativity -guilty by association. I never expected it to happen...now I'm older and more standoffish. But, I do agree that people are less social in this tech driven era. Many millennials and gen z would rather make fake smiles and do photo-ops for Instagram and likes rather than bond with new faces all the time in real life.

I have to drive MILES to get to social events in my "community". Folk dancing, singing, music. It's great when I'm there, it's the last bit of what is left of community. We all come from MILES away to keep the old traditions going. I don't know my neighbors! At all! I live in a dense housing area. I don't know these people. I met ONE after months of living in my rented house. We talked for a bit one day. Not since.

Another problem is people have Agendas Nowadays. And that's everywhere. Genuineness is kinda gone. Or sometimes over the years you also find some people that are too "Needy". Calling you a texting you every hour of the day. I've had a few to tell I need my space as if we were in a relationship 😄. These past few years I've been able to find a few real good friends even ex coworkers. And we all feel the same way about alot of people out here. Otherwise I have found others are just associates and I deal with them accordingly.

It starts at home. I am an 80's child and by the 90's my parents split and seems like 90's became the divorce generation and everything slowly changed I'm really good at observing and took note that after my parents split it was like our community did too. They like started something within our community/nationality and others started to divorce. Seems like everyone went their own ways and divided. This seem to spread at least in every friendship I had there was a divorced family didn't matter if I was in Chi or Phx or Lv at least one or more families of new friends came from the same background. I started a family and we split never married but we have a kid together and split up. Imo now especially the dating scene is dead, couples are scarce and lots of people are single for one reason or another, toxicity is probably the number one reason and high expectations of finding that perfect partner are the catalysts.
