Community pharmacies closing at rapid rate

Sky News analysis has revealed pharmacies in England are closing at a rapid rate with nearly 1,000 having closed since 2017, a third of them in the last year alone.
Deprived communities, where the need is greatest, have seen the biggest decline. More than one in ten pharmacies was lost in the poorest 20% of areas in the last six years.

as a pharmacist I'm thinking how to get rid of waiting people because this job doesn't make sense any longer . I have to understand the nurse doing flu jab .I have to dispense antibiotic without doctor consent and understand doctors .Who would understand me .I see only more and more technocracy..

Just like in the US. All of our independent community pharmacies are shutting down while CVS and mail order are prospering and no one is better for it except the people making money from the corporations

The health of the Public should be the first priority. Unfavorable government policy like taxation might not help pharmacist at remote areas, leading to their increase closure especially at these areas.

All pharmacies should be run by the NHS and not for profit. The problem began decades ago, when the likes of Boots and Lloyds bought up any one man band pharmacy they could get their hands on. All to acquire the dispensing licence, which is all they really want, they make so much profit out of the NHS. Lets not forget Boots is an American company, so all of that profit being transferred out of the UK, is nothing short of criminal.

The owners of pharmacies are making a killing. Closing pharmacies in supermarkets, understaffing the chemists that remain open and delivering a piss-poor service. The population is growing FFS so why are services being cut?

I'd assume services are being cut because pharmacies are being asked to take on more and more responsibilities, whilst their funding and therefore their staffing levels doesn't also grow to meet these government expectations

The cost of purchasing the medicine is now MORE than the NHS payment for the medicine. So pharmacies are running at a loss.
