The father apparently designed and built experimental aircraft for a living. This is very tragic but flying a single engine, experimental plane out of that airport comes with elevated risk as the airport is in the middle of a densely congested, urban area with no open land in the vicinity once you're off the runway. If you have a mechanical problem on takeoff you have to try to fly back to the airport and that's frequently a recipe for disaster. If you look at that airport on Google Earth you can see that this poor pilot probably couldn't see anywhere to do an emergency landing once he had a problem. Sad stuff.

Yes, Orange County is urban especially Fullerton, Huntington Beach, Santa Ana, Westminster (that large cluster of Orange County is especially dense with structures). Very sad to hear of this - heartbreaking.

We will never know for sure if they are in a better place, and that's the sad true...In the time we are in this world the only certainty we have is seeing the ones that were left behind suffer everyday because they can't share precious moments with their loved anymore...she was so young and had so much to live 😢

I disagree with both - Definitely DO take kids up in small planes! Instill in them the passion for flight. But do so recognizing they are inherently more dangerous than cars, and require very focused attention at every moment to maintain acceptable safety margin.

Do you have evidence the pilot was at fault? Most small aircraft accidents are caused by pilot error, but 20% are mechanical fault, and this appears to be one of the latter category.

Ppl keep sayin and thinkin nobody can possibly die from plane crash, 1000s of flights occur everyday. Ppl been easily brainwashed by that saying that flying is safer than driving, but they don't seem to understand wat that conclusion is based on. It all depends wat was measured to b deemed safer. I believe they r measuring distance, not time. If u compare distance, than sure, flying will probably have better statistic, but if u measure time in the vehicle, then car will probably b safer. But putting that aside, there is another factor of statistic of how many accidents occur in deaths in flying vs driving. Not everyone dies when car accidents happen, but the odds of dying in a plane accident is probably many multiples higher in a plane. Sounds like you're interested in the subject. It also would appear you have an interest in analysis of situations others prefer to avoid. My advice, if you wish to pursue further in any aspect of this field, would first be to become proficient in reading and writing. As it stands today, you barely scrape by a basic literacy standard. Now consider the following facts: General aviation has a relatively poor safety record, and though it has improved over the years through education, gains have been only incremental since the 1950's. Approximately three small planes crash every day in the US, (1000 each year) and approximately one person is killed each day. 300 to 400 each year. If you do the math, this means 2/3 of small plane crashes are non fatal. In fact, over half of small plane crashes produce no serious injuries, and all occupants walk away, This is worse than the statistic for car accidents, as you suggest, but it is not as bad as many people imagine. 7 out of 10 accidents are caused by pilot error, while 2 of 10 are caused by mechancal failure. This accidnt, sadly would appear to be in the mechnical failure category. Now take your interest in these numbers and go forward and make somethiing meaningful out of them. Loss of life is meaningless. Saving lives is meaningful.
