These videos have been spurring me on to get my 1986 MK1 Sierra 1.8GL project finally done. I've been obsessed with Sierras since I was a kid and because of that my dad owned several so I have a lot of fond memories too. Sad to hear you've sold this beautiful example its been nice to watch Sierra videos without them either being negative or just someone doing burnouts in an unidentifiable country but I'm glad its going to a good home.

Thanks so much for the comment, it's great to hear you have been enjoying the videos. Also, it is great to hear from another Mk1 GL owner and I hope you get it on the road. Do stay tuned to the channel as we do have a Sierra XR4x4 and are helping with a Sapphire GLS restoration.

9:40 that's the first time someone said it about Sierras. Actually I had one small accident. If you drive carefully, you can put the cup between the nandbrake and the seat. But one time I bumped into the front car in very slow traffic and this coffee was all over the place. I don't know what was the more upsetting - the broken front light or the ruined morning coffee 🤣

Thanks for the comment; hope you managed to have your car repaired without too much fuss! Lack of cupholder is commonplace across 80's and 90's cars! 🤣 Thank you for watching.

Thanks for the comment and well done for owning a 3-door Sierra - they are a properly rare sight and look really cool as a 3-door. Too many 3-door shells have been used to re-shell Cosworths or to make Cosworth replicas. Thanks for watching.

Spent many hours sitting in the back seat of dad's June 84 Sierra, which was identical to yours except had grey seats not blue, and no 5th gear. It was a great family car. It was replaced with an 87 1.8gl which somehow lacked the charm of the original one. As a child i was obsessed with the mirrors, the "quadraphonic" stereo with joystick and the folding down seats and flattened the battery playing with it all once.

Brilliant memories. My dad had one new in 1982 . Was a 2.0 GL . I remember our local Ford garage was lending Sierra Ghias for the weekend like a try before you buy . The ghia was amazing with all the toys . So ahead of it’s time the Sierra was. Good car

It dont seem like 2 minutes since i used to use my 1982 sierra 1.6gl as a daily driver.it was just 6 years old at the time.loved my sierra, mine being a early one on a y,didnt have electric mirrors or boot release.just a point that you might not no but the row of warning lights was actually called the clean hands warning system,no having to go under the bonet you see.mk 3 escorts and mk1 orions allso had them on gl plus.took them off the later escorts and orions for some reason.really enjoyed that, brought back great memorys.shame your parting with it.

Amazing survivor car indeed! Stuff like electric mirrors etc was indeed very rare on European cars, only the top of the model line had that. I remember my stepdad's Renault 25 from the 80's very fondly and it had all kind of then futuristic gadgets like the talking onboard computer, electric windows, mirrors, central locking with remote control and that lovely V6, because it had the talking onboard computer i called it the "Kitt" car (from the Nightrider series) 😀😀.

Hey, thanks so much for this wonderful look back at a truly iconic car! I owned several, and also many Cortinas before that.......I then ''climbed the ladder'' to the Mondeo! Whilst I now have a brand new Ecosport via the lovely folks at Motability, I still have a Mk 2 Mondeo V6 Ghia x auto estate on the drive which I really hope to renovate slowly. She still runs and drives but needs a little work on the cooling system. Can't bear to part with her!

The more modern Rovers have all been nice as well. Apologies, I'm a bit of a petrolhead! Just one last car I wanted to mention...Cortina mk 5 2.0 Ghia. GL eh ? Get you ! Standard power for that 1.6 was a miserly 75bhp. Montego 1.6 from the same year was 86bhp and the Cavalier 1.6 was 90bhp. [ My old '83 Cavalier GLS had electric mirrors and electric boot release, as did the GL... it also had a rev. counter ] My '87 2.9i Granada Scorpio will do 30mpg on a run like you're doing ! IMO, the best Sierras to have (Cosworths aside) were the (Mk1) 2.0i S, XR4i, Ghia or XR4x4. 2000E if you're feeling posh.

Excellent video. Say what you want about Fords but they’re always pleasant to drive, consistent and predictable. I’ve got an Escort LX and it has front electric windows, boot release switch and a tilt and slide sunroof, a real boon. Gear change is smooth and precise and acceleration is decent enough with 90hp.
