Schrade is now Chinese sadly, but Bear & Sons does make a great Sharpfinger pattern here in the USA and there's actually a new American made " Old Timer " series ( they really don't resemble the originals though) that are being made in the US for the Schrade brand by B&S and of course their Sharpfinger pattern is one they're rebranding. If you're in the market for a new Schrade Sharpfinger, I'd probably get that one since they're American made.

@@addicted2tone349 Bear & Sons is making it for the Schrade Old Timer brand ( the real Schrade ceased to exist in '04 ) but I don't know whether it's SS or 1095. If the owners of the Schrade name knew anything about the name they owned or cared the OT knives would either all be in 1095 or marked Schrade + to denote the SS blades.

Bird and trout's are my favorite belt knives to carry. I mostly carry a B&T just because I happen to like them but as somebody who exclusively carries 2 handed traditional pocket knives they are definitely appreciated when I need a one handed blade. My favorites are a Queen model 85 ( that little queen you have is a modern #85 ) from the 1920's, a 1985 Western model 628, a GEC H205 that I had rehandled in stag, and my latest is a beautiful Moki Bird & Trout 2.0 that I thought was beautiful enough to pay the $200 for. If you want a really small ultralight B&T the smallest I have is the Buck 160 smidgen which is an excellent little knife, they were never expensive and while discontinued they can be had for not too much on Ebay. I really love the late 60's Western F48A that I was given as a teenager too, but I don't tend to think of it as a B&T because it's larger than the patern 28 and because they had the smaller 48B. Some would consider it one though and it's an excellent knife, I've whittled so much with it over the years. I also really love the Buck 102 woodsman, it's not terribly small and the 116 caper is the smallest model in the 100 series but Buck does consider it a B&T so I can't argue with them. A little bigger than I tend to think of, but I know some people who consider it the best small game knife ever made. You should probably add a Western 48B or later 628 to your collection, the 80's 628 is great and can be found in really good condition at a reasonable price .

What's funny is that their Bird & Trout is just a caping knife. Many companies sell this pattern as a caping knife, and it's exactly what you'll see as the caping knife in just about every one of those cheap game processing sets in the plastic case.

So I got a 5 knife lot off eBay a few months back, and there was an old rusty bird and trout with it. Other than rust, the blade was probably 90 percent full and it has nice thick bone handles. After I cleaned it up, I could make out “western” so I was happy to own one, I love my western slipjoints. I gotta get a sheath for it, I like the ones that cover the handle too, you just drop it in. But I’m liking the size. Cool swedge on the end of that western you have, nice touch. I enjoy viewing your knife collection, we have a lot of the same vintage stuff. Thanks for sharing
