Coming from East Sussex originally, I knew all about this small branch line. I love your compact layout and am thinking of building a small steeple cab type shunter for my garden railway.

Fabulous Phil. Very evocative, especially as x2 of my Great Aunts worked there around about 1909/10.

You can still see where the line cut from the main line and the path halfway to the hospital on Google maps. Fascinating stuff

Thanks Phil and Andy I never thought I would actually see what the railway looked like , fascinating ! My great aunt spent time in the asylum after an attack which she never really recovered , she was such a lovely lady .

Thanks for this, I live in Eastbourne just down the road and have always wondered what the line might of looked like, and thanks for the potted history. Great video and layout. Mike

I used to work for the nursery next to Swingate crossroads half-way along the line, and am making a 2ft 3" working diorama based on the photo in Peter Hardings book, which shows the Norbury Club outing crossing Park Rd on its way to the station. I am calling it Swingate Crossing

If only I had your skill I would like to model the similar Whittingham Hopsital railway. Perhaps with recent rtr industrials and a lot of artistic license...

0:50 what kind of wagon is that?!
@2H80vids5 жыл бұрын
Wagons like this were used for maintenance/repair work on the overhead equipment, associated more with tramways than railways. They often appeared at night, when the system was closed, so not a very common sight. Another variant was the "works tram", similar to the wagon, but self-propelled. They could be driven from either end, so no loco was needed. This looks like a lovely little model, probably kit-built, or scratch-built. I hope that's some help - no-one else seemed to be answering you.☺ Cheers, Dougie.
