Pakistan complaining about a game depicting their country as a terrorist haven after the Osama bin Laden raid is just hilarious.
@JosephDawson1986
@JosephDawson1986 Жыл бұрын
As I recall Pakistan never knew Osama bin Laden was in Abottabad or Pakistan at all. Their intelligence, which we used. Told them he was in Afghanistan but near the Pakistani border. It was only after field intel said he had slipped over the border and we found out. Basically while the Pakistani Government had no idea about bin Laden they did find that there was civilians as well as low ranking members of the military as well as their intelligence agency helping him. As far as the Pakistani government goes it was just gross dereliction of duty that they stopped looking for him and so didn't know he was literally 800 yards from the Pakistani Military academy, their version of Westpoint.

@@bl8danjil @bl8danjil my point was Pakistan was not wrong for their outrage at the game. In the game, which EA and the MOH development team specifically said was based on Operation Neptune Spear aka the bin Laden compound raid, it says Pakistan knew he was there when that wasnt true it was some people who worked for the government but as far as the actual governing agencies no one knew. If it was America it would have been like a CIA Department desk chief, the Commander of Westpoint and maybe some low level 1 star generals and their full bird colonel aides who knew anything.
@bl8danjil
@bl8danjil Жыл бұрын
@@JosephDawson1986 My point still stands. By the way, it's generally the FBI, Homeland Security, NSA that does investigations in the USA, not the CIA. CIA is foreign intelligence gathering. If hypothetically speaking, the 3 agencies I mentioned earlier plus those low level generals knew that the #1 most wanted, Bin Laden, was in the USA and didn't inform the rest of the government then the headline would be that the USA is a terrorist haven and I would be laughing at that too. Just because the Pakistan government is a failure at not knowing what it's own intelligence agency and some of its military personnel, who are all part of the government, are doing is not a deflection from the truth of the headline. They can claim they didn't know all they want, that doesn't change the depiction the world has and that is that the #1 most wanted terrorist the USA was looking for was hiding out in Pakistan because he saw it as a safe place to lay low and people within the Pakistan government helped him. Hence terrorist haven.

I remember watching a video about it and it came out when new game would try and add something new to the game. and Warfighter felt even back then from reviewers and lets player like really modern day shooter cookie cutter. like the only thing it brought to the table was the door breaching mechanics that was just a bullet time mechanic to unlock fancier way to open a door whit (and none had any effect it was littarly just pick what you think looks the best as they all did the exact same thing). Plus I think peaple started to get Modern day Shooter fatigue. especually whit the environments. like the previous Medal of Honor was hammered for been a WW2 FPS set in Europe where you play as US or brits (everyoen else was also doing it to the death). then Medal of Honor Warfighter came out its a modern day FPS like everyone else was releasing or had released, set in the Middle east as had every single other modern day FPS of that day.

Dude I loved Warfighter but it was not a good game at all. Multiplayer was the fun kind of jank but the campaign is scripted to the point that it feels like a parody. However it's weapon customization was a bit of a precursor to the stuff we see in games like the new MW games and Escape from Tarkov. It had very good weapon customization and it had a nice grounded aesthetic to it.

Y'know, I recall that when they first revealed the game, the website had 4 logo outlines (similar to the MOH 2010's unit's logos). The Task Force Mako logo was the only "revealed" one. Then the Bin Laden raid happened and (to my recollection) nothing ever came of those other units/logos. I always felt like Warfighter likely got too caught up in the legend of SEAL Team Six after that point, which compromised a campaign they had originally planned for max marketability. Real shame since MOH 2010 was really low key about what Tier 1 units it was actually portraying.

Its a lazy scapegoat, but one that works if you're excessively desperate to avoid seriously confronting an issue. The NRA blaming video games was a bad-faith exercise: 2012 was a year where video games had enough cultural relevancy that it was self-evident they had little to do with people being violent. But just like with all the Sandy Hook conspiracy theories... the firearms community was pretty comfortable in accepting literally any deranged explanation versus actually having to reflect upon the objectively terrible reality of what happened at Sandy Hook. Truth is, its easier to buy bullshit than accept reality if you have ideological disagreements with the latter.
@JosephDawson1986
@JosephDawson1986 Жыл бұрын
@@johnkonrad5040the problem wasn't the firearms community it was the NRA. If you think about it the NRA has power as long as there is a need for a gun lobby so they play both sides. The NRA publicly says they are Pro 2nd amendment and fighting for gun rights all the while they also pay the antigun politicians to stay antigun. How else can you explain how stupid some of the antigunners are when we have seen those same people who can't seem to get the parts or function of a firearm correct but have no trouble understanding thefunctions of say a space rover or mission to Mars specifics? Thankfully the gun community is realising this and slowly we are leaving the NRA behind, especially given their views on other issues. Regardless of what types of weapons one believes the 2nd amendment allows you to own most on both sides can at least agree the intent is that the regular American citizen is the last line of defence of the country and being armed helps with that.

Because it's one of the convenient bogeymen: Mental illness, single-parent households, violent video games. They quickly devolve into: eugenics, "traditional" values, racial purity, and other ideological talking points. On the other side of the issue: access to firearms, poor education standards, and violent video games are trotted out now and then. The fact that violent video games are used by both sides isn't lost on either; when one side uses it in the debate, the other side will use a different bogeyman.

I'd always assumed it was a horrible attempt at AOR1 given that most developers screw the pooch there along with MARPAT (looking at you Ghost Recon). I actually enjoyed the game for the best part, and it did offer some interesting gameplay mechanics. But the AI was beyond bad and a couple of the missions were an absolute ballache and no fun so there was limited replay value in the campaign, and so it has sat on the shelf since completion. But it was cheap, and very quickly after release.
@JosephDawson1986

Actually Ghost Recon did that on purpose. Marpat is actually copywritten so in order to use it they needed USMC legal permission when Ghost recon first came out and I guess no one told them as long as the EGA isn't present in the design and the pixels are just slightly different it doesn't infringe on the USMC pattern copy write

@@JosephDawson1986 I'm well aware of the patent, which applies to production of physical material and making money from marketing it as MARPAT and not a digital reproduction in a video game. Nearly all of the camo patterns in Wildlands are off, including M81 woodland and both DCU and 6 colour desert. None of which have patent issues. All patterns in GR:W are too bright, it's supposed to look more worn the longer you wear something but I can't say it ever really made a difference (outside of weapon paint). I haven't played Breakpoint, but colours look a little more muted in general. But opinions seem to be that patterns are off there too. Most of the games published by Ubisoft are of a European influence in patterns, Division 2 bizarrely has a version of MTP as a substitute for Multicam for some reason, the UK MOD has a specific patent for that after paying Crye to design it. Yet Ubisoft used Multicam in GR. M81 woodland always looks like French CE, hardly a shock there. Different developer, different local influence on the teams. Camo in videogames is just hard to get right for a multitude of reasons, patent issues? I'm doubtful the Dept of the Navy cares.
@JosephDawson1986
@JosephDawson1986 Жыл бұрын
@@destroydapacka well the Department of the Navy doesn't care one way or the other and there is no patent its a copywrite as in you cannuse the pattern but not with the EGA that is hidden in the patern like in real MARPAT. I was only referencing Ghost Recon the original version. I never noticed anything off about the color brightness myself but I played it in a dark room so every thing seemed brighter than usual. As for the patterns when I plahed I just assumed that ubisoft was a bunch of civilians who didn't know shit. @@JosephDawson1986 True, the patent covers the pattern and the EGA is 'technically' copyright as it's intellectual property. But your initial argument was they couldn't use MARPAT because of being 'copywritten'. It would have no bearing on usage, even you highlight that above. The EGA wouldn't be visible as it's not very visible in reality, and you could easily just call it digital desert if there was any concern. The USMC are selective when it comes to going after people for usage of the EGA (why I said 'technically'), it's on a bazillion products all over the place and they have no issue but I do remember devildoggamer catching shit and being forced to remove the EGA from his YT logo a few years back. So no issue with joe shmoe making money from it, but criticise the Corps for the constant fuck fuck games and not being what the recruiter sold you and giving a realistic impression, not so much. Ghost Recon came out years before MARPAT was even on the horizon for issue in 2003, and IIRC there was never any ability to select gear let alone camo patterns. Not sure what you are getting at here? I'm showing my age there! Tom Clancy gave less fucks about the video games than the Dept of the Navy does! He was great on writing about large sized elements, ORBAT and breaking down the TOE, but I don't think he was a geardo. Ubisoft are, by and large are indeed a bunch of people who don't know shit. At least they are these days. But the focus, and reality of GR has long shifted. It pisses me off the Clancy name is still attached to The Division family of games, D2 is just a bullshit mix of sci-fi and skins straight out of Fortnite now.

EA doesn't know how to make both games work. Warfighter was pretty close to Bad Company 2 in terms of smaller maps, less players. They should release Battlefield once every 3 years with a focus on large scale war and Medal of Honor every 1,5 years in the middle of Battlefields release cycle with more BC2/Warfighter infantry type gameplay. That way, MoH only competes with CoD and not with Battlefield itself. MoH, BF and CoD could all have been a thing but especially at that time, EA's management just wasn't there.

i feel kinda robbed after watching this. i served in the Army infantry during the UCP era and when your on patrol on Kunar and i can remember looking at the other guys and thinking; “we stick out like a sore thumb” and my ex-wife ordered me the GovX Military edition. when it arrived, it was missing the sticker on the case to identity it as that special edition. so she called someone at the company and they mailed me like… 20 of the military edition little stickers and some other exclusive MoH stickers. good people.

As a Generation X, I don't get the popularity of Call of Duty especially the on line play, it's as if the game is designed for a bunch off ADHD people. I remember the old PC war games where tactics actually mattered and the maps were huge. I tried to play Fort Night and you would have to be ADHD to play it. To me World of Tanks is one if not the best video games out there.

The whole "violent video games makes you violent" debate is so old. Im personally conservative but i know its bunk, there have been many studies disproving it, the only people who push the theory are "think of the children" style karens who will say anything to protect little timmy from video games that arent intended for his age group anyway. Good parenting is needed, if a game says 18+ then it clearly isnt suitable for your 8 year old, dont be surprised when its violent, that rating is there for a reason. Parents will still go out and buy call of duty for their small kids, just think about how often you hear a 8 year old telling you than he shagged yer mum, swearing worse than a drunken sailor and slinging exotic racial slurs over voice chat on any fps.

i wish MOH WF was a good game, but sadly it was pretty bad. the 2010 MOH was much better. idk what happened but the gunplay was awful in MOW WF so was the net code. idk how the 2010 one was good and the 2012 one so bad.

I had no idea that I purchased a whole set of this a few years back. I was getting into airsoft at the time and saw Evike was selling the shirt and pants for something like 60 bucks for both of them. I used the pants as work pants since they were pretty tough and the ass load of pockets made them perfect for what I needed. Interesting to hear about the history behind it.

Pretty wild how a tomahawk is immediately seen as something to be violent with instead of a tool that you can do quite a bit of fieldcraft with
@JosephDawson1986
@JosephDawson1986 Жыл бұрын
Because a modern tomahawk is a weapon not a tool to cut wood. First the edge geometry is not conducive for cutting wood and keeping a blade, two you can't hammer or baton with it because you would break the usually fiberglass shaft.

You keep saying "Special Forces" when you should be saying 'Special Operations.' Maybe I'm wrong, but my understanding of the term 'Special Forces' is that it refers uniquely to Green Berets - and only Green Berets - whereas 'Special Operations' is more of a catch-all categorical term that refers to any spec ops group from any military branch. Thus, Navy SEALs, Devgru/SEAL Team 6, Army Rangers (although this one's sort of a grey area if my memory serves me well), Delta Force/CAG, Special Forces/Green Berets, Marsoc, etc. would all be covered by the umbrella term 'Special Operations,' and not "Special Forces."

‘[We need] specially trained troops of the hunter class, who can develop a reign of terror down these coasts [of occupied Europe], first of all on the butcher and bolt policy… leaving a trail of German corpses behind them.’ Prime Minister Winston Churchill, 1940 While the green berets are the ones officially using the "special forces" motto other units by the world use the term special like the Special Boat Service formed in 1940 for raiding coastal regions or amphibious landing,the Belgian Special Operation Regiment formed in 1948 from belgian soldiers serving in the british Special Air Service.

LBX camo and patches were featured on airsoft sites during that time, and I remember getting a set of each. MoH was hit pretty bad with controversy when MoH 2010 was banned from us military bases because multiplayer had a taliban faction (despite other games like MW2 having Opfor), and MoH 2012 had some serious repercussions for military advisors who were involved in the game’s development.
