In his defence though, he said from the get go that he didn’t feel comfortable going in. Still a shitty thing to do, but it seems ill advised to take a mage- traumatized individual seeking revenge into a magic realm, to help a mage against demons that offer unlimited power.

It's funny to me how, if you want to stay good friends with these characters, you pick the forgiving option and pretend as if it never happened. I mean, I know demons prey on people's minds and manipulate them to do their bidding but even understanding this, I couldn't see myself almost dying due to betrayal by the person I love most and later just being like "It's okay, it wasn't you." It's only human to be pissed, and my Hawke (who romanced Isabela) rightfully blew up at her for this. They were still endgame, I just wanted to play a more realistic character with... you know, emotions instead of a constant witty retort machine.

that's the thing, Bioware is basically wanting you to get your friends to rivalry status as that is usually what's best for them. Or at least, that's how I interpret the mechanic.

It’s complicated. When demons try to seduce you they exploit your weaknesses. It’s somewhere between grooming and mind control.

Okay, I don't think it's unrealistic for the forgiveness angle tho, they're not "witty retort machines", it's just understanding and being able to process better how Fade demons can fuck with people's minds. Because there was absolutely some mind fuckery going on, considering a lot of these characters would never make that choice of their own free will.

after the night terror mission i literally never wanna hear ANY non mage EVER give shit to mages. they deal with this stuff EVERY NIGHT. 100% of non-mages failed to resist after a single trip in the fade, based on this. most mages deal with this nightly, and only few crack.

If I am remembering correctly: - The victims of the Pride Demon can be Merrill, Varric, or Fenris. Merrill is offered to become the "Savior of her People", Varric gets offered revenge on Bartrand as well as the glory he sought in the Deep Roads, and Fenris gets offered the power to rival the migisters as well as revenge on Danarius. - The victims of the Desire Demon can be Aveline and Isabela. Aveline is tempted by the desire to be reunited with Wesley and Isabela is tempted by the desire to have a ship as well as a crew again.

If these betrayals weren't due to demons, who have been shown to be very capable of exerting power over people's minds before, I'd agree. But demons having sway over minds like that has been a lore deet since DAO, like the Templar trapped in an illusion by the Desire Demon. It literally isn't their fault that the mind control demons, in fact, mind controlled them.

Isabella makes my blood boil. «I already said I'm sorry what do you want from me» is NOT a thing that any human being would like to hear after you quite literally stabbed him in the back for a boat THAT DOESN'T EVEN EXIST Anders being mad is absolutely fair, only an idiot would agree to a demon's deal. Fenris is an asshole as always, at least he is consistent, but even then he admits his failure, that it was his fault to agree with a demon. Aveline cannot admit that it was her fault, even though deep down she understands that she screwed up, but just can't admit it, trying to put a blame on somebody else, something faceless. Isabella doesn't even care. «Yeah I stabbed you lol sorry that boat was nice». Merril was about to fall to her knees before Hawk begging for forgiveness, and Isabella just doesn't care. I'll trade her to Qunari in my current playthrough for sure

I mean she "literally stabbed him in the back" in a *dream* Also the conversation leading to that line has Hawke shut down HER attempt to deflect with humor ("I didn't even get the ship") by being serious ("so you'd betray me for a ship"), then responding to her serious answer ("the demon was in my head") by trying to deflect with humor (melodramatic "how could you do that to me?"), so she's getting mixed signals to say the least
