COMPONENTS - The boards are HUGE. Like for real, bring your biggest table. That said, the minis and cardboard and boards are all of great quality. This is a great quick review. I’ve been playing a lot of this game solo…but without the solo expansion, which I’ve yet to try (even though I have it). Playing as both sides works well here as there is no hidden information and a lot of the tactical opportunities only become apparent as the game progresses. That said, I do intend to try the solo/coop expansion, and this video does point out a couple of my main concerns, ie that you don’t get vps from destroying ai units and that you don’t use the miniatures for the ai. I was wondering though, is there anything stopping you from placing the miniatures on top of the tokens when they are revealed, to get the full effect? So far I am loving the game, and have everything painted, so it feels extra immersive.

Lots of wargames play really great solo when there is no hidden information. Most of the time i dont even bother with Solo AI decks if you can play both sides. I can imagine playing both sides to my best capability more often than using the solo expansion. I even wonder if Mike would enjoy this game more without the solo expansion. Unfortunately im still waiting on my KS since i got the painted vehicles set. Sucks to hear they are already working on v1.5 with all new rules and errata. They should have caught that during testing.

@@crushingit5128 the majority of my solo playing 10 years ago was just playing both sides, especially for war games. That's always a viable option for games that don't have too much hidden!

I honestly haven't seen/played many co-op war games. But for solo, I adore the valiant defender series from David Thompson (Castle Itter, Pavlov's House, Soldiers in Postmen's Uniforms). I also like COIN games (Pendragon is my current favorite), Field Commander Napoleon, In Magnificent Style. My back in the day favorite was Combat Commander, playing both sides.

They have said it’s coming, but I don’t think there’s a definitive date yet.

I'm going to be highly upset if that KS is just a reprint with updated rules. I went all in on this one and have been waiting a long time for it arrive and it looks like I'll be waiting even longer b/c I got the painted sets. I didn't give them a small loan just to be a beta tester.

Thanks for the review. By the way, Boardgamegeek has a mod text file while allows you to play any faction in the solo game, so you're not always playing the germans. Haven't tried it yet, but I will soon!
