I really appreciate your honesty when testing products, after your first review I went looking for other people that had tested this tent to see what they had to say in comparison. One person said they had no problems with leaking at all, luck of the draw perhaps, others had comments about condensation and some leakage, but they all sort of looked at it as no big deal. Some sealed the tent themselves, some just put up with it, and they all, for the most part seemed to like the tent, and also seemed willing to put up with the problems. I got the feeling they were hesitant to post a negative review, which to me says they might as well not review it at all, because if I was to look at their comments and buy the tent, I would be out money and pissed. You always, and I mean always, put your viewers first, not the companies that make the products, you call it as you see it, and I for one, and believe me, I am far from the only one, really appreciate your honesty when reviewing products. You spend your money, owe allegiance to no company, and in so doing, save us money, I for one am retired and on fixed income, so I really have to study what I am interested in purchasing, when you do a review, I don't even need to consider other people's thoughts, I now I can trust your opinions. I can't say how important trust is these days, you sir have my utmost respect, and trust.

The reason for those guys to like the tent was maybe that they have never experienced harsh conditions in the tent. But Luke knows something about spending a furious weather night in the tent. I just had similar issues with the tent which copies the Hilleberg Allak tent for the 1/5 of its price. Overall it's a good tent but it is definitely not a mountaineering tent as it is promoted - even light wind will throw some snow inside the tent, the doors opening are not covering the inner tent (thus, when the doors are opened, snow falls directly inside the tent, which happens almost every time you need to go outside) and finally the wet snow weight makes the outer tent to touch the inner tent which, considering pretty short length (around 200 cm) leads to your sleeping bag being completely wet at your feet and your head. I would want to stay in such a 'mountaineering' tent in a heavy snow for more than one miserable night.

I purchased this tent 1/14/20 before I saw all the bad reviews it had so when I got mine I seam sealed it with aqua seal and silicone spray on the whole tent I let it dry for 3 days then set it up 2/3/20 hard continuous rain for three days in East Tennessee where I live no leaks. Hiked Cumberland Gap ridge trail 2/7/20 2/8/20 it snowed 3” preformed great I love the one I have. So if you already have this tent I highly recommend Aqua seal applies very easily don’t have to worry about applying to much

MY Amazon review: You can use this for draining pasta it leaks so badly. Delivered Oct 17, 2019 We've had unseasonably warm weather this year in Maine so some winter camping was in order. Unfortunately the tent wasn't up to the task it was designed for, assuming that was to keep you dry. This could literally have killed us. Rain. 38 degrees Fahrenheit. Major leak. Soaked people and sleeping bags, clothing, and gear. Fortunately we had a kitchen tarp close bye and spare clothing in dry sacks though winter outerwear was soaked. Fire, tarp and some dry clothing got us through the night. The bag is light...when dry. It might be great in summer weather if you wanted a wet sauna... We'll see come July. I bought the hype that the leak issues had been solved. I our case, it wasn't.

Thanks Luke for another honest review of this tent, and your honesty in general. There must be countries where a tent that leaks is OK, ie they have no/ virtually no rainfall. BUT the US and UK (where I am) are not in that category. A waterproof tent is essential here if you're into camping. So that company should get their act together pretty quick.

I always enjoy your reviews. Straight forward and honest. Regarding this tent review, you usually get what you pay for. My main tent these days is the Marmot EOS1 because it is light, very well built and water proof. If I'm going on a super short hike or car camping I use my REI Half Dome tent which is also an excellent tent. My first tent was a Jansport Mountain Dome and it weighs 8 lbs! I still have it and use it occasionally for car camping. It's still in good shape which is amazing since I bought it in 1978 and was the first thing I every bought on credit.

Ozark Trail: "We make the worst backpacking tent ever." River Country: "Hold my boonesfarm" I actually do appreciate your comment that you review products as they are sent, not as they could be with modifications. The "just throw a tarp over it" argument is one that I've bought into myself, and it really does just let these companies off the hook. If they just changed the advertising of that tent to say "it's got a neat military design, it's cheap, it can use whatever sticks you find as poles, and it's pretty roomy and ventilated" and left it at that, this probably wouldn't be such a bad product. Spending $60 for a tent isn't really all that bad, and a five dollar tarp from any big box store would be big enough to keep any rain out, but if they advertise it as waterproof, then it damn well better be.

I purchased this second version after a good experience with my first. Both leaked out of the packaging, as seen here. I then did exactly what you described. Generous seam glue on the inside and out, and an entire can of silicone spray, applied in two coats. I left it out back for weeks after that, checking after each rain. It eventually got snowed on heavily as well. It now functions like a typical tent in its price range. Very minimal leakage and I’ve slept in it a few times in every temperature range from 80s an humid to 20s and snow. I hike with patch tape and seam glue anyway, so im not concerned it would fail hard now. This is my tent for hiking with my dogs. They spin and dig before sleep. If they ended up tearing the floor, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings. Its kept us cozy. Luke is right, based on as delivered this tent flops. There aren’t many tents that are this simple, light, and roomy at this price. Its also my backup for hiking buddies. Its not my most regrettable purchase 😊

Another KZbinr mentioned when he takes his tent out he carries a poncho for a rainfly. The tent and the poncho are manufactured both by River Country. In one video he mentions that he seam sealed both the tent and the poncho, as well as washed both items with sealer, and followed that up with spraying both items to ensure that he stays dry.

My take on the corner leaks: I think that the water runs down the outside corner seam and then underneath of the corner webbing tie outs pieces and into the tent. It did have a corner sealing material, but I suspect that the webbing was sewn on through that. The overall design is good, but the execution still needs a lot of work. A better way to develop the tent and get it right before release to the public would be to put them into the hands of "us" and then work to get the design and process right based on the feed back. I have one of these and seam-sealed the hell out of it. However, I would still not trust it in the backcountry. Okay for a dry-weather trip when I can bail to my vehicle, but that is not what most of us buy a tent for. I have shared this video with others, so that they can make a more informed decision based on their needs. Thank you for your honest review of this tent.

I purchased of of this back in oct 2018. It has served its purpose. I live in AZ so it rarely rains. I always check the wheather forecast and never camp if raining since i dont like dealing with mud getting on everything. There is a condensation problem, which is anoying but not a big deal to me. I recently order a Lanshan 2 because I do like the trekking pole system and want to start backpacking. I did test the riverside in heavy rain and it failed. I sealed it and it still leaked tons. I will still use it for camping but wont recomend if u will be camping in the rain.

Luke I agree with P&D outdoors with all your tent testing and end everything else you should look into building your own tent and after quality control 😉 start selling them for your viewers, the amount of products you properly test to make sure they work good you should have your own line of products that meet your standards. I bought coleman 3-man dome tent from walmart for 35$, and it lasted for two years outside while I lived in it. It was beyond waterproof as well, one night there was a downpour for so long the tent was in 5-7 inches of water until early in the morning. No water got in at all, the floor felt like a waterbed too. It impressed me heavily. I can't believe how bad that tent is for twice the price(and less room).

Okay, updated review? So I purchased the new 2.2 and my wife got to test it in a major storm for several hours. We had NO leaks what so ever. It was very windy, it was very heavy rain, lightening, etc. The only thing we found was 3 of the 4 corners had water in it, after about 2 hours of rain. We got of the tent when the storm lighten up and left the tent outside all night in our yard during the over night storm. Other than those 4 little puddles (it never made it to the middle of the floor and only stayed in the corners) it was bone dry. We went ahead and tried to get water to leak from the corners buy putting water in the corners and nothing dripped out. So we don't have any idea where the water came from. Possible Condensation? But we recapped the corners, and sprayed on the silicone water proof stuff. So far so good.. I really like the tent

I appreciate that you dont have it out for them. You honestly opine on it's ability to it's waterproof advertising. I suppose if ya have one pick up a 10x10 tarp, throw it up then set up tent under it. Prolly easier than the BS of returning it.

I own the original RC 2 man tent and trust it for cold ( spent at 16-18F night) and rainy weather. It came with instructions clearly stating it would need to be treated with waterproofing spray. I also own the Vented 2.? Model again I was instricted to waterproof spray the tent. I use it for summer, when more ventilation is desired. So far so good. This military pup tents are quite heavy BTW.

I have two of their tents (Trekker 1 and Trekker 3 pyramid tents) and woodland will buy again. These two tents are very fast to deploy with 4 corners stakes and a center pole (maybe 3 minutes with practice). Agree, these DO need a little attention to weatherproof properly before venturing out, but these are not $500 Kodiak's. Being said, I always re-seal all seams (mix silicon+mineral spirits) and apply silicon water guard spray on EVERY tent and tarp when I first get them. Simple and quick to do. Slept 40 nights in the Trekker 3 this winter and dry, dry, dry.

Recently, I got a Snugpak Stratosphere and very surprisingly it leaked pretty bad the first night I had it out. After emailing Snugpak, they apologized and are sending me a replacement. I've got A TON of their gear; it's all performed amazingly well and has always been some of my favorite stuff to use. The issue with my specific Stratosphere I'm sure is not indicative of them all and is just a fluke in either manufacturing or quality control.......something that Snugpak excels at. Although, my Ionosphere and 10×10 all -weather- shelter are both seam sealed as well as, if not better than, my cottage manufactured tarps and the rest of my Snugpak gear and clothing is put together just as well. I almost bought this tent but went with the OneTigris Backwoods Bungalow instead. Even though it had severed problems with leaking as well, OneTigris sent me the updated version 2.0 as a replacement to make up for it. I'm extremely happy with the customer service from both Snugpak and OneT. Great vid, thanks for the heads up!

I bought the River Country Products Trekker Tent 2 back in October of 2018, i live in Washington state near the Olympic mountain and her rain forest. I was dropped off for 3 day solo dispersed camping W/ dog, did not go well. Tent has leakage issues, condensation is very bad even with the front door fully open and all vents as well. The only reason i was able to stick out the 3 days is the fact i had 2 Hudson bay 4 point wool blankets(was still cold), wool is Heavy but well worth the money. I stay dry with my Terra Nova Adventure Tarp, SOL heavy duty reflective tarp for the ground, and (4) steel 10 inch spike pegs now. why steel pegs? dead fall wooden pegs i make brake on me, and cutting up live branches to make good pegs takes too long and i'm soaked by then. Hypothermia is no joke.

Back in the 1970's my parents had a heavy canvas with aluminum poles tent. Pain in the butt to set up. But, that thing never leaked. Even on heavy dew and condensation mornings, the inside was dry. Over time the material dried rotted, and even when it was falling apart when you touched it - it never leaked. Since then every tent I owned leaked, even with the rain fly on it. Got to the point I was putting tarps over the top and sides. Some campgrounds dont like that as it made me look like a homeless camp. It is because if leaking tents, that I do not camp anymore. I wish there was an affordable tent that did not leak, but I yet to find it.

So what you’re saying is, stick with the 10+year old (still waterproof) Eureka tent that I still have?

Thanks Luke. Real bummer though, one of the very few lightweight tents that are green (my favorite color) and not a Teletubby color! I guess the search for my Holy Grail continues...
