Compare Raster DEMs, Contours and Point Clouds with the Elevation Profile Tool in QGIS

There's a new Elevation Profile Tool available from QGIS 3.26. In this video we explore how to compare raster DTM's, contour lines and a point cloud for different transects.

With this new tool you can export the profile as image (PDF or jpg) but not as table of values. It can not be used to estimate slope (linear regression). So Terrain profile plugin, or other terrain analysis algorithms, are still valuable in my opinion.

How come geographic coordinates can’t be used for analysis?

They can't be used for DEM analysis. Algorithms assume that x and y coordinates are in the same units as the z, which isn't the case with lat/lon in degrees and z in meters.

are these 'no data' value pixel mainly because of object on the ground (e.g., building) as DTM only represent the bare ground value? thanks in advance for the answer.

In this case the building footprints were filtered out and left nodata pixels at those locations.
