Compare: Rocket Giotto vs. Nuova Simonelli Musica

Nuova Simonelli has paid for and taken it through that certification process. It is expensive and time consuming so not a lot of businesses do it unless they plan on marketing it to businesses. Now, NS is primarily a commercial manufacturer so have done so to complement their product set. Rocket is working on some commercial machines so they'll likely differentiate the two like this. - Kat

Also worth mentioning... the Rocket takes up a bit less space. Not much of a difference, but space was an issue for me. As for steam, there is a 4-hole available for the Rocket which would bring steam times in line with the Musica. I've been making killer art with my original 2-hole tip and it really doesn't take more than 25-30 seconds to create a nice micro-foam.

@romancewriter You mean auto vs. semi auto, I assume? Superautos have the grinders built in and manage all of the grind/tamp/extraction. The Musica just allows you program volumetric water dosing. In a way, starting with semi-auto and then, when you've got it down, programming the water volume would be a better route to go as you're learning. - Kat

Both are awesome machines and I stuggled a bit choosing between the two. I loved the programable dosing of the Musica, but the looks of the Rocket, along with the ability to go from Plumb to Reservior helped me to choose the Rocket.

I have a Giotto. The Musica wasn't around when I got mine.. It is really a great machine for it's price.. but I still love my Evoluzione more :)

thanks for all the uploads. I think I have almost made my mind up to buy the simonelli musica. I think the only thing stalling the decision is that having a machine that has the ability to switch to plumbed is attractive given that we are building a house next year and wanted a plumbed machine. but the musica looks fantastic. maybe I can buy both!

the good thing of not using plumbed is that ur not bounded to a hose. i'm using one. the only thing thats impt is that to remeber to empty the tray before it gets too full.

Thanks for the comparison. I find the Giotto has a more classic look to it and I like the Lever. The programmable buttons is nice on the NS tough. Something I find interesting is that I never see Gail do a cooling flush on the Giotto. I have to do a significant amount of cooling flush to get the right temperature on the E61 group head or else I get a bitter coffee. Have you tweaked the machine so that you do not require a cooling flush?

@SeattleCoffeeGear - The 720p is great Kat - we appreciate your pain! 1080p is not necessary - YET. KZbin can't download 1080p very fast anyway, so lots of buffering will occur. That used to happen with 720p, but eventually KZbin had to modernize. When they get you a more powerful computer Kat, you can increase the bit rate and/or ease up on the compression and that will make more difference than 1080p. All told, a great improvement going to HD.

i like the Musica better because you can start learning in superauto mode for novice(like me!) and switch to semi-auto without getting a new machine but the Rocket package with all its freebies offered on SCG is are to pass up.

@ferryengr I did get an upgrade in my laptop, hence the upgrade in the processing; but what I'm finding is that downloading the raw video in full HD takes forever and working with it is ridiculous; additionally, this videos are now at about 1GB in size and take forever to upload. A huge improvement is that processing doesn't completely take down my whole laptop anymore! :) - Kat

@FishAddiction22 No, it's a bit small. It holds 24 oz's. I can make 4 drinks, clean and backflush and then it needs to be emptied. The good news is that it has a drain plug. You can hook it up to a drain bucket or lead it right to your sink drain and never need to worry about it again. It's small, but not too small. I've never wished it was bigger or had it cause me to be disappointed.

Hey guys, how about the durability of the pumps? I think giotto has a rotary pump while musica comes with a vibrating pump. Whats your idea on the pumps?

Rotary pumps will have a higher duty cycle, typically more durable

Whoa, whoa, whoa... removing content due to aging?!? LOL And I distinctly remember the count needing to reach 500. We're at 424 and then some get removed, bringing it down to 414. Then... THEN, you claim the new count to 1,000?!? You cheater! LOL Post 600 videos of Jess... that should do it. :)
