Back in 2021, I bought a Carbony Celtic Winds Low D for Small Hands directly from the owner of the company, Rob Gandara, over dinner in a local restaurant in Corvallis, Oregon. It's now my favorite whistle! Apart from amazingly wonderful tone, pitch stability, and ease of blowing, the spacing allows my currently fragile hands a chance to gently yet skillfully flop upon the holes using piper fingering. I've played all of my whistles with piper fingering for decades. Easier on my fingers to play this low D than a regular high D.

Wow! Those chimney extensions are pretty amazing! I’ve never heard of those before, but what a brilliant idea!

Fingers spacing is one thing, I have the carbony D and I am still working to have the breath pressure to play it well- Stephanie makes it look easy, she was playing low whistles in her very first year.😂

Thanks so much for comparing these whistles-- very helpful! The Susato would drive me crazy with that annoying clicking sound. I'm going with the Carbony because of the close fingering. I'm dealing with arthritis and a standard low D is impossible to play since I can't make the stretches required with the piper's grip.

Excellent video, good coverage of each whistle for the comparison. On the Susato, could a small piece of filet be placed order the key, but still allow coverage of the hole?

Great video I've been wondering about them all. Perhaps someday there will be another less pricey innovation for low-D whistles

I have the Carbony C, and love it, but i like the idea of adding keys to all 6 holes, make them much closer together. Imagine a Tenor whistle, thats as easy to play as a soprano. Make in 4 marts. bottom section, middle section, and 2 head sections (flute style and fipple style). I wouldnt need another instrument.

Nope. It is Oregon. I can attest that is a lot easier to buy from Rob in Oregon than to order something from the UK 😮recently. I returned a whistle to North Ireland and it cost me $75 for shipping with tracking.

That clicking on the Susato...there has to be a way to eliminate it. Ruins it in my opinion.

@@jpss011876 both keys click a little, you can learn to play and release them more softly, though I imagine that's difficult for faster tunes...
