I am comparing a $500 basketball hobby box from 2013-14 versus a $500 hobby box from 2022-23 for our latest collectible sports trading card pack unboxing/break! The boxes I chose are 13-14 Panini Crusade Basketball Hobby and 22-23 Obsidian 1st/First Off The Line (FOTL). Despite releasing a decade apart, they are both the same price in 2023. Some of the notable cards we are looking for are Giannis Antetokounmpo rookie cards, 1/1 parallels, Volcanix & Vitreous case hit inserts, prime/super prime memorabilia jersey relic cards, autographs of top rookies/stars/legends/HOFers, rookies of Paolo Banchero, Chet Holmgren, & Jabari Smith Jr., and more! There is a youtube video of a guy recording the 2012-13 National. The majority of the holy grail boxes were $50-$70. 2012 Prizm basketball I think was $55 and he could not sell.

Ayyyyyy!!!! Something good happened with the Yankees tonight!!! Judgie with his first career 3 homer game. He's hit a home run ever 9.296 ABs this year and if you use that pace and his 570 ABs last year, that's 62 homers. If he didn't get hurt, the dude was gonna do it again. I thought of something you may like to do sometime this year. Do like a large pack opening with an award show aspect to it. Like for all of 2023. Your picks of various awards you give for packs, boxes, boosters, etc. A few examples could be, best pulls, best value, pack of the year, box of the year, worst pack of the year, and so on. If you like maybe too you could do two separate videos of them. Have a poll for fans to vote on ones you nominate for each category and then open the winners of those, and then do your own for your own picks you think was best for each category that you choose yourself.

13-14 fleer retro. I ripped a box of it I wanna say about 2017 and the best card I was a precious metals of dr J /50. My autos were terrible and I only pulled 1 giannis base. I would love to see you pull a Jordan auto.

I know it would be harder to do but I would love a comp using retail prices (obv I think giving the current/newbox some wiggle room due to inflation/time value of money) Id just really love to see are we getting more or less value (granted bigger sample size needed), big ups for keeping it within the same company... one with topps baseball could be quite fun.... Good prompt! The price on boxes with something to chase is just never going to match the average value inside them, especially as unopened boxes get scarcer (e.g. you'd have to pull *several* gradable Trouts to make your money back on a 2011 Topps Update box). So that premium you pay is for the novelty of the opening more than the value of what's inside - perfectly fine idea for streamers, less so for the rest of us. :)

If I'm spending 500 bucks on a box and I had a choice between these two boxes, I'm picking the one with the Moses Malone patch and the Dawkins auto. Are they gonna be barnburners? Perhaps not, but I lean more towards veterans I recognize from history, so I'd rather have the Crusade box, especially if it's a chase for Giannis.

I opened a case of crusade 3 weeks after it hit my lcs in richmond indiana. It was jd's cards....now out of business.i think the guy just retired really and sold his store off and everything he had in storage in à huge warehouse online....but the best card i pulled out of the case was a majestic signatures kobe ....he offered me $300 for it out of the pack but i decided to keep it and sent it into bgs and got a 9.5 with 10 auto....was a nice on card of kobe....ended up selling it a few years later for $500 and a box of tier 1 baseball.wish i still had that card...

I would not compare price range of these, as Crusade cost 50-60$ with lowest price at 30-40$, so I would say it was lower end product back in the day ;)

Thanks! Most card shops have them but online sellers and retailers also sell them! They’re called thick sleeves and the toploaders go by PT size. 130 is the most common thick one I use

The older boxes are more fun to watch, but the ratio of "collectible" players from those boxes is far lower than newer products, so you're much more likely to get stuck with a bunch of cards you can't trade or sell and aren't that excited to keep. I would prefer the current year box, but I always have time to watch older breaks!
