Is there a specific reason why you didn’t continue with the eco engine and opted for a Honda? I see you’re in Colorado I am also in Colorado and just started a project that I purchased that already has an eco installed. I’d like to get in contact with you and possibly run some ideas through you for suspension

The Baja I have the Ecotec in is a "regular" baja and the Ecotec works really well in it. My new Baja Wratchet is quite a bit heavier than most Bajas, so I wanted a little more grunt for it. So I went with the V6. Email me at dougbugbuilder@gmail.com and we can talk.

I want another baja bettle, not really for heavy offload trails or baja itself. As I have had spinal surgery, I can not use a clutch due to nerve damage, so I was thinking about using an Automatic transmission. Would it fit into a 67 to 69 bettle?
@DougBugBuilder3 ай бұрын
There are not a lot of automatic transaxle options out there for rear engine buggies. But if you have one you could definitely get it to fit one way or another.

How do I use a VW transaxle for a mid engine set up?
@b-lopez3942 жыл бұрын
Nice comparison between the two trans. What are the gear ratios on the Weddle, since it's a 5 spd. Big difference on price. Like they say, anything about performance is $.
@DougBugBuilder2 жыл бұрын
It has 5.14 R&P 1st is 3.11 2nd is 2.17 3rd is 1.60 4th is 1.20 5th is .82 I asked for a bit of a jump going into 5th. Typically final gear would be around 1:1. But I asked for it to be a bit of overdrive. I'm really happy with that. I may have gone a little to aggressive on the R&P. 1st gear is pretty low, I don't really ever use it. I can even start from second without to much issue. On the track I'm in second or third. Next R&P option was 4.86
@b-lopez3942 жыл бұрын
@@DougBugBuilder You might consider keeping that R&P ratio until you are sure what application you are going to do with Wratchet. My budget VW off road buggy has a stock R&P ratio of 4: 37, I believe, and sometimes when the trail are like boulders, wish I have a lower gears. The reason for that is, I can't raise the RPM to get the HP and Torque that I need. If the RPM is high then the buggy is too fast. Believe it or not, I've taken this old buggy some really steep hills and the only thing that stop it from going up is traction. Nothing special on the buggy. Just an air cooled ,1700, dual port with progressive EMPI 2 barrel carb. 31's Dick Cepek EXTREME COUNTRY Tires. When I bought it, it was a sandrail. I convert it to off road buggy.

G'day, your Volkswagen transmission did you find a hydraulic kit for it or was it something you've done yourself.
@DougBugBuilder2 жыл бұрын
That was a kit, I bought it years back, I think I got it at Chirco. It's basically the slave cylinder, a little eyelet to hold it, and some threaded rod.
@colinfera4332 жыл бұрын
Do you have any opinions on the subaru transmission swaps? I got a subaru trans swap kit essentially for free thrown in with other parts including the WRX trans. Currently I have a Type 2. Engine is a turbo EJ25.
@DougBugBuilder2 жыл бұрын
The Subaru trans swap is great. I think that'll be better than the type 2.
@mtnduck36742 жыл бұрын
I've done a bit of research when I was building mine. Type 2 003 is good up to about 100 hp. Type 4 091 up to about 150 hp. Vanagon 094 to 175 hp. Subaru from 225 to 250 hp. This is in stock form. If you build any of these, they can take up to about 25% more. Weddle if going larger. I have a hybrid 003/091 and has handled 150 hp well (but i drive with a light foot).

It's supposed to be able to handle about 550hp. As far as fitting in a stock chassis, it would take quite a bit of modification to get it in there.
