Hi Odin, I use a pair of pliers to squish the end of monofilament flat, then I can thread it onto my needle. Hope this trick helps you too
@Margarida1961Maria5 жыл бұрын
If you smash really hard the monofilament ends with some pliers you can thread a needl on, just like fireline but harder. I tried and it works. Most Russian beaders work that way.
@coronajewelry5 жыл бұрын
we in Macedonia also are using monofilament its the only thread that u can find so I got used to it I tend to work with 0.018 sizes so it perfect, but I'll definitely look for other options on Ali express.
@CrystalClairebeads5 жыл бұрын
I only use monofilament thread ,fireline and wildfire are too expensive and i cant be bothered to look for discounts and sales.. the mono is £2.99 (im British)for 100m which is a bargain!!..I make all kinds of pieces with it and the one I buy from EBay never shreds and doesn't curl when taken from spool.

I use the Zebco Omniflex. It's pretty easy to work with and i can get through 15/0's multiple times. Not to mention its cheap :)
@OdinsMusings5 жыл бұрын
Is that the clear monofilament? How do you get that through a needle? I have troubles with it
@christinasnyder74595 жыл бұрын
@@OdinsMusings I cut the thread at an angle and use pliers to squish it to about 1/4 to 1/2 inch up. It works best with a size 10 needle but if you're careful you can get it trough an size 11. As long as its a new needle you shouldn't have to many problem.With patients you can make it work :) lol I sometimes cheat and use a size 26 or 28 cross- stitch needle, though it can be a pain due to it being a short needle it works fairly well. I use the clear Omniflex 4lb .008dia. This knots pretty well too. Hope that helps.
@OdinsMusings5 жыл бұрын
Nice! Thanks for the tips! I use the heavier stuff for my crystal RAW structures, but never had luck with the needles. I was always afraid of the knots snapping too, but I usually reinforce them with some glue.

I tried the Hercules brand based on this video. I cannot thread my #10 needle. It also has black stuff that rubs of on my fingers. I was hoping it was more rigid. It's great for practice especially since I'm a beginner. I love my #6lb wildfire, I've never tried fireline but I love the ridged feeling and the sound it makes when passing thru beads. Lol I just wish it wasn't so expensive and it does break from the needle pulling so I dont use a long thread at all. Itd be so great if we could find a fireline based product that was the same price as nymo. When pigs fly right

Hello, when your beading thread or line starts to fray, do you cut off some of the thread on an angle? Makes threading the needle easier. Also, do you know there is a right and wrong side of a beading needle? Just like a sewing machine needle, if you look at a beading needle with a magnifier, each side looks different. If you’ve ever struggled, trying to thread a needle, turn it around. You were trying to thread the wrong side of the needle. If you turn it around and have trimmed your beading thread on an angle, you should be able to attempt once and the thread should go right thru. I’m on a beading group and the question came up regarding other colors of Wildfire and different weights or thicknesses available. Have you ever tried Dragon Thread? Potomac Beads sells it. I bought a kit from them and they included the Dragon Thread. I didn’t care for it. It has no body at all. If you have a wingspan of the thread, it tends to knot up as you are passing it through beads. And it frays. I hate the stuff. But I will pass along the info regarding the Hercules item. I enjoyed your video. Very informative.

one g is OK but it broke, one a few project and shreds with along working thread, end sometimes frays though you can get knots out somewhat easily because of the coating. it's flexible not stiff my thought it's workable but I feel wouldn't last along time.

where did you you get your Hercules, what's a good thread that holds up to crystals
@OdinsMusings2 жыл бұрын
I ghot mine on Amazon here: www.amazon.com/dp/B076HL648C/?ref=idea_lv_dp_ov_d and this is probably the best bet when it comes to crystals. Everything pretty much gets shredded by them unless you put a seed bead between them to protect it.

You will find that the diameter of the thread is different. If you look at the thread spindles from beading supplies and then the fishing supplies, you'll find that the thread from the fishing supplies thread is a larger diameter. For example the 8lb from beading supplies is 0.007 mm in diameter and 8lb from fishing supplies is. 0.18 mm in diameter. Not why there is such a difference. I use the fishing supplies fireline.

@OdinsMusings5 жыл бұрын
It might if it's made of a synthetic material. But the potential issues I see is 1. making a hard clump too large to thread the needle or 2. setting the whole thing on fire like a supra long wick xD

Greetings! And thank you for this informative video. I am new to the "beading" and "threading" business. If you have the time and opportunity, I would like to know what you or anyone reading this have ever used or even suggest using the following fishing wire for beading: Zebco Omniflex. It comes in a variety of diameters. From .011Dia to .029 Dia. And they range from 150 yards to 700 yards. Thank you for your time. Any replys will be appreciated. And all please continue to stay safe.❣

I am so confused about using the monofilament for beading cuz my books,etc have warned that monofilament doesn't last long and it eventually becomes brittle and breaks. I thought it was only used for illusion multi strand necklaces and with the kleshna bracelet weaving tool. Can someone who used it please explain to me how it lasts etc. I have tons of supplemax in all different colors and am willing to try it if it holds up over time etc. Thanks so much for any help I can get. Sincerely, Melissa Doucette

I used it for my 3D beaded scupltures with crystals. Other than that I try to stay away from it. it shreds super easily and it can break easily. The only other thing I would use it for is to make those tattoo chokers from the 90s
