I always thought Ceobe was neat because she's just, really good at exactly what a caster should be good at (melting high def targets with consistent arts damage), so it's her niche also why's there so much fire between her and eyja, really hot knives is ceobe's usual skill and eyja is self-explanatory

Hot Knives melt the big boat dudes before they get on land (so they could drown in agony) and have half the DP cost of Eyja. BUT Eyja have an expanded range and Multi-target for other stages. And the pair works well together melting everything because Kay will benefit from Eyja 1st talent

I feel like a lot of the casters are weak because early design philosophy had it that their arts damage alone let them do more damage than physical dps due to low resistances. Only a few oddballs like Eyja, Ceobe and Ifrit stand out as having competitive dps and value. I have liked Dusk as kind of a spare Eyja S2 if actual Eyja is busy doing something else though. Good consistent aoe damage.

You forgot Click having stupid single target and Passenger having monstrous burst in exchange for mediocre sustain. Carnelian has all burst and no sustain whatsoever, but she also hits like an isekai truck.

@@FelisImpurrator So my comment was obviously more in refference to the early units and how they set the trends for their archetypes. The average standard attack values and dps for aoe and st casters being pretty awful, for example. Click and Carnellian are definitely good amongst the casters available, but not that good among all the units in the game. Click can have good st damage, but due to her ramp up mechanic, it's rather difficult for her to show it reliably. Carnellian's nuking is good ish but just comes with a lot more caveats than Eyja for the same roll. Poor starting sp means she can't helledrop, the charge mechanic meaning her overall nuke uptime is poor, and her ramp up meaning she needs support hold enemies in place long enough to match eyja's initial dps. Passenger...was just not that good, burst or no, pre module and there's no real sugar coating it. Carnellian is in about the same boat as Dusk, where they have their specific niche where they do ok, but are largely just outgunned by Ejya either in the sustained aoe or aoe nuking categories respectively. Click and post buff Passenger are good for their archetype, but just ok in the unit pool overall though.

People say that Shirayuki is the better AoE caster, but surely W is the best AoE caster. She explodifies enemies at longer range, has cheaper DP cost, has both physical and arts dodge, and last but not least she has a lethal smile for the Dokutah.

I lucky got Eyja and Ifrit on a ten pull on some rolling lava banner back when I started. have not pulled a second copy in the like year and a half since. Ceobe has come home one her banner, on the next banner and I think a few times since. she's.... not as good as eyja in as many situations but. 1.) ifrit lowering resist, ceobe AND EYJA together was a nuke that frigging killed everything difficult when I started. Ceobe s2 has much better uptime than Eyja s3, allowing like 3 usages to eyjas 1, so it makes sense if the enemies don't bunch up, or if you need more power for a single boss. but that was my early strategy for most event bosses, just reduce their resistance and burn them to death. with 3 six star casters. its more a why not both? both is good sort of situation.

IMHO splash casters would be much better if they worked the way spreadshooters do with hitting ALL enemies in range. Yes, like Gitano or Dusk do, but without skills. The way I like Ifrit for example is not for her range (but that's also good), but for her ability to hit all enemies in her range. Considering how OP Chalter is I guess that giving such a trait to arts damage dealers might sound pretty OP as well, but this is the only "buff" that I see possible for splash casters to be remotely useful.

"AOE casters bad" until Originium Dust kekw. New Anni is going to be a wild ride. When is DP cost a relevant penalty other than low DP CC risk and boss map wipes? Honestly. Without DP nerfs or instakills most ops are functionally free after the first minute even without Bagpipe's funny whale potential, and we're in the era of longer levels now. Eyja versus Carnelian is a better comparison for Volcano. Carnelian can outDPS Eyja but is highly dependent on having more targets, because Eyja's DPS on S3 caps past the target limit and Carnelian doesn't. Volcano uptime is fairly bad without helidropping too.
