Hello, Flandrew! I recently found a pretty interesting thing - Goblet of Fire fan game, made in 2004-2005. Sadly, there's no download link, but here's the video of it: m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/anrNhK2wedNnsM0 What do you think of it? This, beside graphics, looks very well-done.

I was thinking about Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. It came out in 2007 and similar to The Force Unleashed had three different versions on seven platforms: the flagship version on PS3/360, a Wii version ported to PC, PS2 and PSP, and a DS version. The Wii version had extras like poker, pirate dice, or replaying any level as other characters you unlocked like Davy Jones or the Pirate Lords

To be fair, even if the game had no gameplay elements I think a lot of fans woulda jumped at the chance to walk around an authentically styled hogwarts (for the first time ever, i don't think it would work again and again and again). HP has some dedicated fans.

I don’t understand what people mean when they say it had “no gameplay.” You used magic to interact with the environment like in previous games and you could randomly duel students around the castle for the first time. The gameplay for this game was great. I did multiple playthroughs as a kid.

@@MattII33 have you seen the other vids in the series there's not a lot to do compared to them. less combat, puzzles, dungeons, just everything that people enjoyed about the early games. its not that it had no gameplay but what was there was so much less then previous games and what was there was more monotonous. doesn't mean you can't enjoy it but that's why is because compared to the rest of the other games the gameplay feels nonexistant.

The reason he can use magic at Sirius' home without any problem is because the Ministry knows magic is being used there but they don't know WHO is using it, so since it's an adult's wizard home it's kinda like a grey area, same with the Weasley's home. I hate that I know this.

I played this one in the Wii, and I must say that I think you're completely right about the gestures being designed with the Wii in mind. I remember this being my favourite Harry Potter game just because it actually was an open World with NPCs around. The fact that the story and missions are lacking was a secondary issue, because as a former HP fan, all I wanted was a game where I could go around Hogwarts and discover stuff. The Wii controls made the magic really immersive. Of course it lacked a lot, but overall it was good enough, and that "Hogwarts experience" is what made it so satisfying for me. And my guess is that this is what has developed into the new Hogwarts game that is coming.
@LaggyKar

I played the PS3 version, which also had motion controls (optionally, default was with the right stick). And although it didn't have a wand controller like the Wii, I think there too the spellcasting is more reliable with the motion controls than with the stick, albeit slower. Trying to move things around with wingardium leviosa with motion controls is pretty crappy though, you have barely any control, so there you pretty much have to use the stick.

I got this game in a PS2 Bundle when my previous PS2 broke. I played it for a few hours I think and then read the manual to see what there was to do, and I remember the manual calling the post-game an 'Endless Day' where you can roam and explore Hogwarts.

Played the PC version as a kid. Because I played with the Mouse Gestures turned off (that is an option, though many don't know about it) - moving with the Arrow Keys, casting spells with WASD - it actually wasn't hard at all to cast spells. At the time, I really loved exploring Hogwarts, and just that fact alone made me really fall in love with it. Replayed it a bunch of times. Having replayed it recently though, and it's just not that fun. Sure, we can explore Hogwarts, but it's not really that interesting looking, there's nothing meaningful to find, other than the "discovery points" system. (Though I will say, the two "recruit DA members" parts actually helped, because the non-liniarity improved the game's exploration. I was really disappointed by the way Half-Blood Prince was crazy short, and only had one quest at a time - the steamroller through the story didn't give me time or motivation to explore the castle). I'm really hoping that Hogwarts Legacy makes exploring the castle much more interesting and rewarding.

I loved the PS3 version as a kid. Comparing it to the PS2 HP games I loved was mind-blowing. But then I tried to pick up the game again in 2022, and, since the scale isn't all that impressive anymore, it didn't have a lot going for it. And I think the graphics, animations, and controls are a dead giveaway that this game was designed first with the Wii in mind.

Order of the phoenix was the last HP movie tie in game I played. I never touched HBP nor the two deathly hallows ones. I remember being constantly lost, following footsteps, doing inane ball and wizard card mini games over and over, and basically dropping the game during the first batch of “collect all the DA students” miniquests. I kind of appreciate that it’s a playable 3D Hogwarts, but 5 onwards never was my favorite movie depiction of the castle. Now if I had gotten to explore hogwarts from philosopher stone or chamber of secrets, I would’ve been all the heck over it. Sadly, OOTP just reproduces the exact same problem as the movie of having a downright disgusting choice of color composition… the quality of the games really waned as the quality of the movies did.

I've personally spent hunderds of hours in the PC version, being my main speedrun game. Glad you actually did it justice making a fair review, pointing out its major flaws. Also watching it reminded me of my beginings with the game. Throwing benches, now powerful moved used to shuts your friends up, used to be just a fun tool to mess with NPCs. Climbing, which still feels slow, was even slower back when you didn't know you can just spam the sprint button to do that faster. DA members were (kinda) fun to search for, and discover their tasks, instead being on a pre-calculated route you need to follow to save every second possible. Thanks for the throwback! As for the other releases - i didnt play much handheld hp5, but it has very bad opinion arounds us. And Java... I remember having a lot of fun with it, but couldn't get myself to finish it after the years.

1:13 The "trace", that is, the spell that is placed on magical children the first time they visit school (without them noticing, of course) to detect usage of magic, can only detect whether magic has been performed in a small area around that child. That means that anyone performing magic in the vicinity of that child also triggers the trace. Therefore, children that have a magical parent are expected to be supervised by them. It is safe to assume that some children had some freedoms given by their parents on the usage of magic at home during holidays. However, that is entirely different for children that live with muggles. If the trace is triggered it was almost certainly done so by the child which is why Harry got expelled so quickly. This also means that Harry, whilst being at Grimmauld Place, could've used his magic freely as the ministry would've had to assume that it was another wizard or witch who triggered the trace. Same goes for The Burrow. This is also why Hermione was able to fix Harry's glasses in The Chamber of Secrets in Diagon Alley without consequences.

And if I recall correctly there are battles that you can lose in the console version but you have to win in PSP version to progress, for example when Umbridge finds the room of requirements.

My childhood gaming years can be condensed into three franchises: Spyro, Lego, and the Harry Potter games. Thank you for these videos. It’s nice to watch and look back and remember the fun times playing these gems. The Order of the Phoenix was so unique and is one of those games that does sound tedious, specially if you’re watching, but once you start playing and immerse yourself in this massively detailed map you can easily forget the extensive walking. I enjoyed the mini games, my favourite was gobblestones, and also loved exploring the castle trying to find all the secrets and check marking all the achievements in the trophy room.

The last game of the series was released in the very beginning of the last decade. But it’s amazing that you are making in-depth videos of the games.

One thing I loved about this game is the secrets you discover, a few Easter eggs such as the entrance to the chamber of secrets although you can't go in. But then the room or rewards, the more secrets you find, more extras are unlocked there, behind the scenes of the game videos. In one they state how they understood fans were disappointed with the goblet of fire game and decided to go back to basis and make a better. I think this game could have been better but I enjoyed playing it. Was still over a decade before Hogwarts legacy

Excited to see you cover Half-Blood Prince, I remember how excited the old Classic Game Room review of it was, comparing it to a third-person FPS and calling it “Dirty Harry Potter” lol

Honestly, with the motion controls the Wii version inproves the game a lot, it made the whole experience a lot more immersive and I can asure you, even at this time I can remember most of the gestures for each spell. Also, Fighting at the end as Dumbledore is pretty dope.

This together with the ps2 version of the philosopher's stone were my favorite harry potter games of all time. I like how you had as a player so much input in using spells on objects because of the gestures with the right analog stick

I love the PC version as it uses voices from some of the actual cast members. But the DS version included a few more playable characters as you could control Fred & George too in one of the fights and apart from Dumbledore and Sirius, one of the ministry battles also had you briefly controlling Lupin, which was nice too.

I played through this game on the DS a number of times. It was always pretty quick to get through and surprisingly fun to duel. One of the few DS games I’ve found that use the screens vertically rather than horizontal. Very cool.😁

You forgot to mention the „Leveling-System“ on the PC version. At least I think it was supposed to some kind of leveling system. Like every now and then after interact with something in the environment you gain orbs and the game told you „Your spells are stronger now!“ (Never really felt like that but anyway) Oh and not to forget you got interrupted by Myrtle everytime, complaining you haven‘t been in the secret room for a while.
