I really can not thank you enough , you completely explain it from diffrent angles and makes it clear-cut for us. Thank you.

The easy way to explain is to say that for most verbs when putting them into conditional, you put them in infinitive form and add the endings. When the ending is re, you take away the e for the stem. In other words, the stem will almost always end in r. Marcher in conditional is je marcherais. There are only a few specific verbs that don't use their infinitive, my teacher gave me a worksheet such as pouvoir and more.

This analytic approach is absolutely necessary, of course. However, in real life, we must have the patterns 'built-in' to our brains. Walking up to topics such as described here produces a feeling of being overwhelmed. After I calmed down, I realized that this is just another (unexpected) field of pattern learning that I will conquor. As a native english speaker who reads some books in French, I realize that I'm often suffering comprehension by glossing over unfamilar conjugations. Onward! Thank you Alexa for a great presentation of, in your own admission, a difficult subject.

Will there be a pronunciation difference between Je marcherais and Je marcherai? How do I tell if the person has used the Conditional or the Future Tense in that case?
@daniel7496 жыл бұрын
So, basically, to make the conditionnel, we use the beginning of the future with the end of the imparfait (past). It makes sense, because the conditionnel is a possible consequence mixing the past and the future. Is that it?

Bonsoir Alexa. I have watched many of your videos about conjugaison of different tense, and I’m somehow quite confused by some of the key points.Is there possibly a recap video that combines all the major tense, conjugaison and their key points related for us to comprehensively understanding? For example, the similarity and difference between conditionnel and l’imparfait is really great since I suddenly understand the relationship between these two and the methodology behind their conjugaison, instead of just memorizing by heart. Merci bcp!
@charlenelazare75984 жыл бұрын
Geez Alexa, Merci pour les expliques clairs, you have no idea how many videos i watched before getting to yours to finally understand conditionnel, and you explained it so simple. Comment je mémorise tout les conjugaisons. J'ai compris le leçon mais c'était simple quand j'étais faire le présent, maintenant il y a présent, futur, imparfait, subjonctif et conditionnel. Quoi vous me conseillez pour mémoriser bien "les temps"? ( I am trying to use more french than english, so if i made a mistake please correct me I would appreciate it. )
@rickcereceda38896 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexa I am confused, you said that the endings of the conditional were rais, rais, rait, rait, rions, riez, raient. Could you please clarify thanks.
@Serendip982 жыл бұрын
Actually, conditional is not called a "tense", rather a "mode", like indicative or subjunctive. "Conditionnel présent" for ex is a tense (je mangerais). There is also a "conditionnel passé" (j'aurais mangé). But the biggest difficulty, IMHO, is that if you want to say : If I were rich, I would buy a car, you should NOT say : Si je *serais riche, j'achèterais une voiture (*twice conditional present), rather : Si j'étais riche, j'achèterais une voiture (si + indicative imperfect, then only conditional present) Even French people sometimes make that mistake, but it's definitely better to avoid it.

Uhg I finnaly got why I was so confused about these. "Would" has such a weird use in English when you think about it, where its both used to compose a sentence saying that you used to do something "I would go to school every day" and to give a suggestion "I would go to school (if I were you)". I never saw the importance of the "time indication" (every day, every year etc. ) and how that changes the meaning of the sentence, but thanks for clearing this up ^^.
