And now I understand the importance of those lessons. It gives me a strong base to explore more into French learning. I used wonder and got confused à lot of times when I saw 'y' and 'en' in a lot of sentences. After this lesson, I understood why those characters appeared. That makes sense.

At 2:40 into this video, Alexa demonstrated use of "y" in the responding sentence "Ils y habitent depuis 1 an." But I think the technically correct response would be "Ils y habitaient depuis 1 an", using the imperfect (imparfait) tense. However, using the present tense "habitent" keeps it simpler for beginners.

Basically, "en" refers to quantity , replacing "de & du", "des" would be plural, while "y" refers to singularity.. And "en" is also used as "in" beside a feminine noun.. Like "Il est en classe" (he's in class), the noun is class and it's also feminine or "Je suis né en France" (I was born in France).. Here is an example with both prepositions in it, "Je suis né en France, mais je n'y suis pas né" (I was born in France, but I wasn't born there)..
