As a LRTimelapse and DaVinci user myself I find both programs useful. They don't necessarily rule each other out when it comes to applying deflickering. Quite often instead of tinkering with some extra residual flicker left even after several smoothing attempts in LRTimelapse, DaVinci's deflicker algorithm provides the needed last touch up to give me results I'm happy with. Especially useful with day to night to day transitions. Needless to say there are different approaches to deal with nasty deflicker (whether it's the Aperture or contrast or post-process induced type of deflicker). LRTimelapse would be choice number 1 for most, but DaVinci's approach or other deflicker specialised software/plugins can come very handy (professional or enthusiast work level, that is😉).

Thanks so much Matt! Technically the difference is, that LRTimelapse deflickers losslessly on metadata basis, no matter how much refinement steps you do. After each step it develops a preview and checks visually if there is any flicker left and then refines the deflicker based upon this info. This will be repeated, until no flicker resides. Resolve deflickers on already developed images, which means, every step will sacrifice a bit of quality. But as you said in the Video, Resolve has other assets, it's a great video editor and color grading tool, just not fine tuned for the need of timelapse photographers.

@@jimgiraffe5253 Really? You publicly tell that you use a stolen version of my Software and then ask for a discount? Sorry. But I like to treat everyone fair, that's why there are no random discounts for LRT. And so should you. If you respect my work, please buy a license. I'm working 10 hours a day on this software and everything around it. I'm no Adobe or Microsoft. I'm a single person who does all of this.

Thumbs up for LRtimelapse. Not sure what kind of sorcery is going on in the background but the results always ends up in the best way possible. What Gunther has made out of this is gold for every timelapse photographers out there, hobby or professionals. I recommend everybody who's interested in timelapsing to check out the link in the description above. It has all the tutorials you'll need to get started also. Wish you the best weekend, Matthew :)

Totally agree that LR Timelapse is genius and a MUST for serious timelapse photographers. I will add thought that it didn't alwas work in all cases for me. There's just some situations where it didn't quite make it for me. Found out that in those situations Flicker Free plug in does the rest. It does an amazing job as a complement to LRT. This is the definitive winner combination for me.

Besides the reasons you mentioned in the vid, another advantage of LRTimelapse is that Gunther is very active on forums, social media, etc. Probably 95% of the questions I have had about the program have already been answered by him with a simple google search.

Matt, fully understood and appreciated. One question remains open though (for me at least): What features are included in the DaVinci Resolve 18 Studio version that are essential for timelapse post production? Won't the free version do the necessary jobs satisfactorily?

Hey Mat! Do you know any tool to remove birds and insects from Timelapses in Davinci Resolve? Would be nice to have a tutorial about it. I used to use the clone stamp with a one frame offset in after effects but I’m trying to move completely to resolve!

Have you tried deflickering in capture one or lightroom? I ran automatic exposure adjustment on all of the raw photos in capture one and got a great result. I don't have any dusk/night timelapses to try and I suspect that the result might be worse if you get bright lights for a frame or two on a darker image, but for my daytime timelapse needs it works great :)

There's no deflickering in Lightroom that I know of, unless you're using a plugin which I've tested and doesn't do small adjustments only 1/3rd stops. Haven't used capture one yet!

@@MatthewVandeputte I just googled it a bit, and "Match Total Exposures" in Lightroom looks like the only potential option. It doesn't to exactly what Capture One does, but it could be good enough for some cases.
