I compare my lawn every week regardless of rainfall because I’m jelly of their lawns! Lol. My front yard is so shady from trees it feels hopeless. But this is my second year at it and I’m still determined.

In Tampa, FL, my neighborhood got one day of rain mid-April and another days rain mid-May that's it. Normally our summer rains start June 1st +/- a few days. One side of my lawn is stressed out and I am watering it daily just to sustain it not drenching it. There is a huge difference between rain water and city water. Fortunately come Tuesday June 11th we will be getting plenty of rain and we should be all set for the rest of the year.

I'm in Miami, FL. The drought has been rough here as well, a couple two tree showers in the last few months so manual watering has been the name of the game. Along with the watering, Hydretain and Stress Blend has helped a ton compared to last years dry season. I'm proud to say that this year I have no dry spots just nice thick St. Auggy ready for the rainy season and the absolute domination of the neighbors!

Glad to see even my sensei in lawnfoo has dry patches. I just adjusted 6 or so sprinkler heads this weekend…but will still have crispy areas I can’t get to with a hose (I have 2 acres of palisades zoysia). One side of my yard got hit HARD last year from army worms. So bad you could see the dirt. Until this drought hit me, that zoysia took off and thicker thanks to magic unicorn pee, stress blend, flagship (zoysia LOVES Flagship), insect control, and some Image to knock the weeds down and allow the zoysia to take over.

I have had homes with Fescue, Bermuda, and St.Augustine lawns. My favorite grass to maintain is Bermuda because it loves hot weather, drought resistant, self-repairing, grows in sand or clay, can handle high traffic, soft to the touch, and pretty much indestructible. The worst grass to maintain is St. Augustine which I had when I lived in Ponte Vedra, Florida. St. Augustine grass is high maintenance that doesn't do well in hot weather, requires a lot of water, doesn't handle high traffic, very stiff, and makes a good salad for Cinch Bugs. IMO, St. Augustine grass should be the last grass to use in Florida. I don't know why Bermuda grass is not the primary grass in Florida.
@Thelawncarenut
@Thelawncarenut 21 күн бұрын
I'm not sure either unless it's just based on what sod farms wanted to grow that is profitable. Maybe at the time of the housing boom in the 1960s and 70s there was a stronger marketing push behind St Aug. That is oftentimes what dictates these things.

@@ahastar1141 I’m disabled a can’t push a spreader through the St Augustine. I use the yardmastery backpack sprayer 1/2 full and can shuffle through the lawns. It’s most of the exercise I get. Because of the new designed shoulder straps I can fill it sitting on top of my garbage can and slip in and out of it without bending over. I have found it helps. I started spraying the neighbors on both sides in exchange they mow and weed and cover part of the cost of the products. It’s my 3rd year on the program with 2 front lawns a the first doing all three. First season we won yard of the month, totally unlooked for an unexpected but our end of the circle looks great. Maybe I can get one of them to put down the granular come august. Thanks.
