Yeah, going to a top university is a bit of a shock for most students. Almost all come in as high school A-students, but college grades aren't like high school grades. In high school, 20 people in a 40-student class can get A's -- if they mainly get A's on their assignments. That's not possible in college. In college, a 40-student class means that there are only 4 A's available. You must literally be in the top 10% of your class to earn that A. Obviously, this means a whole bunch of high achieving high school students will now get B's and C' and sometimes D's -- and knowing your new place in the pecking order can be demoralizing. It does help to stop comparing yourself to others. Just do your own thing. Work hard. Concentrate on your own improvement. And have the big picture in mind.

Sarah- I feel a lot of what you are saying in this video. From comparisons with others to seeing Austin as being an eternity ago- this video was great for me because it showed that it’s not only me going through all this. Remember to keep your head up and take time for yourself! If you’re ever in Western Mass., make sure to stop by! -Eric I.

Are you doing OK academically there, Sarah? Seems like the academic pressures & stresses at MIT are very high because the courses are extremely tough and everybody around you are very, very good students?
