There are two things that make the ScanNCut the best and Only machine of it's kind and that is 1) it's scanning ability and 2) the software (that is free) called the ScanNCut Canvas that gives you access to all of the images on your machine, but tons of different projects that you can either make or take and use parts to create your very own one of a kind project. Your imagination is the limit. I don't need to purchase coordinating die sets to any of my stamp sets and this in itself for some could be hundreds of dollars if not more. This is a huge deal. So if you are looking for a machine of this type, get the Brother!

MsFnmc thanks for that! I have been trying to figure out which one I wanted. The brothers definitely seems like the better buy

what is funny is I watched this same thing on another video and the cricket had none of the white on the edges but the scan n cut did. the computer process was also much much easier when he was comparing the two. its very difficult to make up our minds when these vidios are so different. from what I saw on the other video comparing the two I believe it was Kens kreations I believe I would get the cricket explore as it seemed to be much more user friendly. thanks for your input.

You should stop by a Brother dealer and try it out!

I just found out that the cricket explore is only operable with the cricket ipad why in the world would any company do this?

Erin, can you save your doodle on the Scan N Cut so you can cut it again at a later time? If yes, Will it draw and then cut it? If it cannot and you want to reuse your doodle multiple times the Cricut has an advantage.
@ErinBassett8 жыл бұрын
Yes you can save them to your machine, to the computer, to USB flash drive, or ScanNCutCanvas (the free web service that you can use on your computer/ipad/etc). :)

I have both the Cricut Air and the Scan 'N Cut. For freehand and scanning, yes, it's faster, but if you need to use a piece of art that you can't draw, then the Brother is not that handy. Their ads have a few designs that come with machine. It boasts of over 600 designs. Most of the designs you would not use and many are shapes. I'm not impressed with this machine. I only get about three cuts from the sticky mat that cost over $ 17. With this machine you cannot use any other mat. With the Cricut mat you can use it with the silhouette or the Cricut. Thanks for your demonstration, though.
@ErinBassett8 жыл бұрын
Actually there are tons of designs preinstalled on the ScanNCut, plus ScanNCutCanvas comes with each machine for free (via web access) and so you can import files there to use. It sounds like you need to clean your mat. Gently use a alcohol free baby wipe on it to clean it and then let it dry and it will be sticky again.

Erin did I see a bit of white shadow on the scan and cut cut out ? I'm still tying to figure out which cutter I want lol the cameo is out of the race it does a crappy job from all the videos I have seen . Thank you for making this video BTW

From what others are saying the brother is the only way to go?
@ErinBassett8 жыл бұрын
If you want absolutely no white edge you can do an inward offset cut in Direct Cut mode (Conversely, if you wanted a thicker margin, like a sticker, around your image you'd do an outward offset cut). The Cricut doesn't have that option so I didn't compare that. I'll have a video out in the next few days about how to do that type of cut...so stay tuned!
@nightstringers8 жыл бұрын
you misunderstand what I was say no white is a good thing some of the cutters end up cutting with that stupid white shadow
@ErinBassett8 жыл бұрын
That's what's great with SNC, you get to choose how much of a boarder or bleed over you want. My latest video on the Thanksgiving decor shows how to change your preferences.

@ErinBassett8 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use ScanNCutCanvas for free.

Thank you for the video. Can you use the scan and cut without a mat? (Cutting large vinyl words)
@ErinBassett8 жыл бұрын
You do need to use a mat. They come in 12"x12" and 12"x24".

Hi ms I just wanted to ask how large of a paper format can I load into either machine ?
@ErinBassett8 жыл бұрын
12" x 24" if you use that big of a mat...otherwise 12" x 12" with the standard size mats.

Is there any difference in the cut quality and detail resolution and also material handling? Will the Brother cut everything the Cricut promises to cut, in terms of thickness and such?
@ErinBassett8 жыл бұрын
Compared to Cricut I've been able to cut out thinner (tissue paper) and thicker (leather) materials with my ScanNCut.

I see this would save having to buy piles of poorly cut companion die cuts which get expensive. I have not bought a cricut because I'm not very computer savvy, but am considering this one now, thanks. Question: If you have a word stamp can you stamp it on whit scan it, make it larger font then cut in colored cardstock to avoid having to buy word dies as well?
@ErinBassett8 жыл бұрын
Yes you can, but you need to respect copyrights.

Hello Erin! Im in the process of wanting to purchase one of these machines between the ScanNCut, Cricut, and Silhouette... I need the stencils to stick to the product as I will be airbrushing and also will be using pictures that I pull from the internet. Some will be in color, and some will be black/white. Which machine would you suggest?
@ErinBassett7 жыл бұрын
For custom stencils, to me the ScanNCut is more intuitive to use and requires less steps in most cases to get it done. You can check out ScanNCutCanvas, the free cloud based application that comes with it even without having a machine. Try to have it "trace" the jpgs you plan on using to see how that works. You can also check with your local Brother dealer to see if you can stop by and play with one. Silhouette also has some control over creating custom stencils, but it's harder to learn and the software is an additional expense.

you didn't tell us how long it took to set the cut n scan machine up to your computer.
@ErinBassett8 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda, the great thing with ScanNCut is I don't have to use my computer. :) It's a stand alone machine. However if one wants to use their computer with it they just need to activate the wireless card (which takes less than a minute) and you're good to go. You also have the option (if you don't want to be connected wirelessly) to create/import designs in ScanNCutCanvas (the free web based application that comes with your machine) and then to save them onto a USB stick and insert it into your SNC to cut it out.

Which one is quieter?

They are pretty equal, the Cricut may be slightly quieter though if I had to pick one.

can this machine cut vinyl?
@ErinBassett7 жыл бұрын
Yep, I've used it a lot for that! I've cut everything from tissue paper to leather with it.
@lisafernandez55728 жыл бұрын
can it cut on fabric as well?
@ErinBassett8 жыл бұрын
Yes the ScanNCut does Lisa...I've cut everything from tissue paper to leather, foam, thin wood veneer, etc. It's awesome! For fabric you can use a stabilizer, but you don't have to. It's been a long time since I've cut fabric with a Cricut, but I had to use stabilizer to do it...they might have changed that though in the newer machines.
