1950 15-91 owner here. I named mine after its original owner. "Big Nanny" (my mom's great grandma). I would prefer the 15k for the hand crank. But happy none the less. Ive already made a motorcycle seat cover with it and planning another. But after all the work ive done to the machine (deep clean/ rewire) i want to keep it for smaller projects and hems. I plan on getting a walking foot machine. But there is something about using a vinage machine to create stuff. I never thought I'd get so involved with sewing. Now I want to collect the darn things😂..... any how.... thanks for the comparison. Cheers from CT, USA.

Vintage and antique sewing machines tend to be addictive! Once you get one... you're on a slippery slope to owning at least 20! lol. Thanks for watching 🙂

I have an Improved Family 1885 from America. It was rescued from a skip 20 yrs ago for the base. It then was in a barn until last year when I acquired it. It was so rusty and ceased up I didn't hold out much hope of getting it working as I'd never owned let alone used a vintage machine. So lots of research and hard work I found out the model and got it working again. It has the American logo on the treadle which is beautiful. I would love to know how it made its way to Sw England. I like you have given it a name. Boris as its such a character with the peeling paint as it had a crude paint job at some stage, but he's totally reliable now and I love using him for my toughest jobs. I now own a 66-1 Treadle as well ! I think it is addictive. Thanks for your informative videos.

I have my mom's 1950 kilbowie singer in the crocodile case, was hand crank. She later converted it to electric, I'm put a period hand crank back on it. I also have a 1955 singer model " 15 -" made in 1955 its a treadle/electric combination. With stich reverse set up like on your 15-91. Mom could sew pretty good, but I find the Singer 15 RAF better for me with a hand crank. I'm not too crazy about singer and the potted motor setup, the motors with the belts that utilized the hand crank mounting hole ( in my opinion) makes for a better design

That's an interesting point. I've heard some people say the belt driven motor gives a smoother sewing experience. And yet others will say the potted motor gives more power, allowing the machine to sew thicker fabrics. I only have the 15K80 handcrank and the 15-91 with the potted motor so I don't know if the style of motor makes a difference to the functionality of the Singer 15. In the interests of science, I think I'll ask on my Community tab. Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🙂

Many earlier versions of the singer 15 sewing machine had their bobbin fingers pointed at 1 o'clock.

That's why I love Singer machines. Even when they look the same... there is always a subtle difference that is easy to overlook. Some 15s have bobbin fingers facing 11 o'clock. Unfortunately, that small tidbit of information isn't always obvious unless you happen to have more than one Singer 15! lol. Thanks for watching. 🙂

@@SimplyStitchy I was gifted a singer 15 that had no bobbin case or bobbin race. The race from my 15-91 would not screw on to this singer 15, but the race from my singer 31 did. Go figure.

I collect vintage and antique machines , im new to collecting but i always check for the bobbin and bobbin case first , everything else can be easy to find but i alwayswant the origanal bobbin case , i recently got a pfaff 332 and the bobbin case was so gummed up but i totally dismantled it and polished it back to new and use it in the machine and it works perfect , i wouldn't have bought it if the bobbin case and bobbins were missing ...

You're spot on! Bobbins and bobbin cases can be the most difficult parts to replace - there are just so many variations out there. Thanks for sharing and for watching 😀

Hi all, Hope you liked today's video. If you did, give it a thumbs up. Why not check out my other videos? How about this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYOXmpuMnJhppdk where I show you, if you know how to thread one machine, you can thread any of them! Do you sew with either the 15K80 or 15-91? Let me know in the comments which one you think is best? Don't forget to subscribe! Thanks for watching 🙂

Hi I have an old sewing machine , how do I find out its manufacturing date? It says it’s a 15K 80 on the instruction. It has a light and a motor. Thanks for any help you can provide Juliet

First thing you need to do is find the serial number. It should be on the right hand side of the machine at the base of the pillar. Next - check out this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqjTc6BtirStbKs In that one, I show you how to look the serial number up to work out the age of your machine. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching! 🙂

Which one is better?
@SimplyStitchy

They're both the same. The only real difference between the two is one's electric and the other is a handcrank. If I had to choose, I'd go with the handcrank. It doesn't need rewiring or a power supply. And, because it's hand powered, it's slower so can go through layers a little easier... It's also British like me. 😉 Thanks for watching 🙂
