I recently collaborated on some content with Leif Johnson Ford in Austin, Texas. They were kind enough to let me take a test drive in the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Also, thanks to ‪@TIRADORACING‬ for answering some of my questions about the #fordmustangmache
I am happy to say while it is a nice car, I would still choose my recently purchased 2023 Model 3 any day!
Some comparisons:
The MACH E Starting at $42,995
Tesla Model 3 starting at 40,240
Model 3's warranty coverage is a tad longer.
The Tesla Model 3 comes with a four-year/50,000-mile limited warranty and an eight-year/120,000-mile battery warranty.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E comes with a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty and an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty for the battery pack and electric components.
BOTH Seating for 5 across two rows.
Though Tesla does not provide official horsepower figures for the Model 3, its acceleration figures this EV are faster than those for the Mustang Mach-E. The quickest Tesla Model 3, the Performance trim with two electric motors, has a zero-to-60 mph time of 3.1 seconds. The Mustang Mach-E in top-tier GT Performance trim goes from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

No matter how much comparable the Mach-E is to Model Y, the Ford dealership always have the last say. They’ve been marking up the MSRP even way beyond the tax rebate . Who wants to suffer through that crap.

They're absolutely FLYING off the lots at the Ford dealership across the street from my office. They're all sold before they even unload them from the truck. Prices that go up with demand? --> That's called Capitalism. Hopefully you're in support of higher prices, man.

You just buy from a dealer that doesn't do markups. Markups only work when there is very limited supply, now that Ford has increased production, markups won't be around much longer. Now look for the discounts...

I finally got to drive a Tesla today. It was an older model S, with the early front grill. It threw me back in the seat more than any other car I've ever been in. I als liked how quiet it was & how smooth it was. The re-gen was though it was programed to slow just like I normally drive. So I am amazed an want one.

I went to LA earlier this summer and rented a Tesla Model 3, I fell in love with it. I love the big screen and there are so many things I thought were really cool about it, especially that I only spent about 15 dollars the whole week on charging. The regen braking really took some getting used to. I've decided that my next car will be a Tesla no doubt about it.

I live in Australia and there has been a strong rivalry between the two main car manufacturers, Holden (GM) and Ford (sadly, there are now no car manufacturers in Australia). People often grew up in Holden or Ford households and there were races where all the teams drove Holdens or Fords. It is like allegiance to a sporting club or even a religion. I think it is good that there will be (not here yet) an EV option for all those Ford fans over here who probably would never buy any other brand. By the way, I grew up in a Holden family and owned Holdens until they went out of business. I now drive a Model 3.

Interesting comparison. One little thing that worried me on your behalf. When driving you did not adjust the seat to support your back or head. This showed especially in your fast acceleration. This means if you get in some kind of accident you will get your neck destroyed. Please consider this when driving. I want you to keep healthy for a long time. Your previous injury is enough. 🐐👍🐥❤️😀

The base models in other EV brands usually can’t hold a candle to what you get in the base Model 3. They are way more stripped down and feature-poor. Base Model 3 just has less speakers, smaller wheels, slightly less range, and less power RWD-only compared to the high trims. But the rest of the features are all there. That is not case with other brands.

The problem with all other EVs is not how good they are , the issue is there are no places to charge! All these years these legacy automakers never had to bother with filling stations for their ICE cars, and therefore when they were forced into the EV game (which is still kicking and screaming and crying foul) they never thought of the charging part. And since Elon thought of everything way ahead of everyone Tesla beats them all

Why didn't you adjust your seat? LOL! If you would have enabled lane keeping assist Blue Cruise would have activated and you could have driven hands free. I looked at both Tesla M3 and MY before ordering my ME. I don't understand why Tesla or Hyundai don't put a rear wiper on their offerings? It's big deal when you live in a place with snow. I also love CarPlay and SiriusXM, which are not available in Tesla. After a year, I don't regret my purchase at all. Every time I ride in a Tesla, it reinforces my choice. To each his own, right? That's why choice is great.

Thanks for the review of the Mustang Mach-E. I am not sure that many traditional Mustang owners consider the Mach-E as a follow-on to the Mustang heritage. It is much more of an SUV body style, as you mentioned, comparable to the Tesla Model Y, not like all the Mustang sporty sedans that have been made in the last 59 years. The Mach-E does have two doors on the side but also a hatchback.

I had an interest in the Mach-E when it was first announced; only natural, as at the time I was driving Ruby, my 2015 Mustang Ecoboost, which I still have and love. Since then I've fallen for the Tesla Model 3/Y family of vehicles, and since the Y price dropped down to around $50K and got an upgraded computer, I jumped on the Y option and drove it home to Alabama from Atlanta last week. I still love the look of the MachE, but am leery of its heat management and software, particularly battery management, and also prefer the whole vertically integrated approach to building cars that Tesla follows. I love my Y LR. Maybe not a perfect car, but the compromises are done in ways I find acceptable. Also, with a Tesla, there it is possible that if a software driven irregularity in behavior (such as automatic wiper fail, or door lock management (I miss "click once to unlock only the driver's door and click twice to unlock all doors")); that behavior may one day be fixed by an over-the-air software update, months or years after the car was bought. Such updates are at best uncommon from other companies, or maybe even unique to Tesla.

I bought my Tesla Model 3 more than 3 years ago. Back then there were no competition when you looked at range, horse power or anything else. I am not sure I would ever drive any other brand. The Mustang you drove is the GT version. It hits 0-60 in 3.5 sec. The base models are in the $40k. The engine noise is fake and can be turned on and off. There are three driving modes; Unbridled, Engaged and Whisper. Changing the mode changes the steering responsiveness, engine noise and regenerative braking. One isn’t more efficient than the other. The Mach-e comes with Blue Cruise that provides hands-free driving on pre-mapped freeways. Non-pre-mapped freeways have drive assist that will steer the car but the driver needs one hand resting on the wheel. The Mach-e is bigger then the Model 3, it’s comparable to a Model Y. In addition to a second display, the Mach-e also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (and a rear windshield wiper and vents that can be adjusted to redirect air).

Ford is losing about $58000 on every EV it sells, Tesla makes about 25% profit on each of it's EV's sold. Ford EV's are piling up on dealer lots because of sluggish sales. They've made 38000 EV's in Q2 and only sold 8600.
@lenm2857
@lenm2857 Жыл бұрын
Tesla also had massive losses the first 10 years or so. They don't "really" lose $58,000 per car, it's more of an accounting loss. It's based on the billions they are spending building battery factories. They expect to lose money next year as well. It will be 2025 or 2026 before the EV division is profitable. Also the 8600 units is US sales only, a lot of the 38,000 is shipped to other countries.

Practical Range on the Tesla Model 3 (80 to 10%) is ~260 miles. Tesla has 12,000 superchargers in the USA, and they consistently work - That’s why Ford, GM & Hyundai have decided to switch to the Tesla (NACS) Standard. Owned the mach e 23 premium and moved to a model 3. Model 3 is a superior car in every way. The ford app is terrible and lacks the features of the Tesla app, blue cruise is weak in comparison to AutoPilot, sound system is terrible in the Mach E. Road/wind noise is noticeably higher in Mach E (I’m driving 24 m3 so that may make a difference). M3 weighs less so better battery efficiency and significantly faster. The Mach e is an easier transition as inside it feels like a traditional vehicle but it is way too expensive and a bad buy since they don’t qualify for ev credit. I hated the Mach e every day I had it. So glad to be in a vehicle I like.

I would certainly watch those with enthusiasm. Maybe start another channel just for EV test drives? PLEASE CONSIDER IT! You could call it ELLIE ON THE ROAD or ELLIE BEHIND THE WHEELS? Haha, just a play on your current channels' title.

@@ellieinspace I meant every compliment I gave. This type of video really shows off your ON-THE-AIR Experience and professionalism, even despite your Tesla ownership. I favor Tesla's only because No one else has mastered the technologies involved, especially the software expertise. I was really rooting for the F-150 Lightning but above all other failures is their inability to produce any more than 4,000 vehicles last year compared to Tesla's 500,000! I hope you an make more EV DRIVING comparison (rep0rting) Videos, this one was fun to watch.

Good comparison. Even the standard Mustangs are way overpriced, especially down here in Australia. But the more EV’s there are, those prices will soon come crashing down, just like plasma TV’s once did. Remember how a 55inch plasma tv cost $70,000 when they first hit the market. Now you can get a 65inch uhd tv for under a grand. Same with electric cars. There’s a tidal wave of innovative new Asian & Chinese EV models coming so it’s gonna get very competitive in that segment of the market, especially when dealerships become a thing of the past.

I noticed that you sit with your back way forward from the seat. Do you do the same with you Tesla? or did you just not adjust the seat? Looked uncomfortable.......also the seat in the mustang looked oversized!

Supposed to be some serious price cuts in the fall as Ford tries to clear excess inventory of Mach-e's. The 2024 version will come out after they do that. We will see how it compares with the model 3 highland then too.

He wasn't very much help on pricing? But the mach e base select rwd starts around 43k Ellie. It's only eligible for $3,750 in tax credits. The mach e isn't competitive on price, range, efficiency, charging speeds, perf or tech vs the model Y. It's also made in MX with polish supplied batteries&German motors/inverters. Kinda pathetic really for a 120+yr old company and the fact it's been in production since Sep 2020 now. 🤔

My two friends who bought a Ford Mach e got rid of them after six months. Why? Can’t charge it on a cross country road trip. “Nightmare.” “Charging roulette.” “Poor EV coefficiency.” “No OTA updates. I have to take into the dealership and leave it for a day.”

Congratulations Ellie on your Tesla Model 3 but the Mach E is more comparable to a Model Y and then some. It all depends on what you are looking for. Your car is a fun drive too and very well priced.
