An interesting trend I found: since the 1974 Flyers beat the Bruins, there have been 20 instances where one finalist has been to the finals at least once in the previous 5 years, whereas their opponent is making it for the first time in awhile. 19/20 winners were the teams with experience. The 2022 Avs are the only team to overcome this trend. I was very conflicted about this series, but this trend finalized me on the Panthers.

here's how i see this playing out, from a Panthers perspective: 1. Barkov's line, along with the Forsling/Ekblad dpair, will be deployed against McDavid at every faceoff (that isn't from an icing call) 2. Bennett's line will be tasked with getting under Draisaitl's skin, but will provide spot-duty for Barkov's line against McDavid if need be 3. Lundell's line will be the biggest X-Factor for trying to produce a sizable chunk of the offense, but will still be counted on to take some shifts against Draisaitl's line. i can see the Mikkola/Montour dpair playing exclusively with Lundell's line 4. Hopefully Stenlund's line can chip in some timely goals against what i perceive to be the weakness of the Oilers team either way, it's gonna be a chess match, & i'll give Maurice the advantage there. let's have an entertaining series, GO CATS

I think Florida's tendency to put their 3rd forward deep while forechecking( and thus force a lot of turn overs deep in the offensive zone) is going to cause fits for the oilers. Edmonton loves bringing their center down low to pick up speed, and then receive a lateral pass from a winger in the neutral zone. Which shouldn't be able to occur because Florida takes away so much space from the opposing team's defensemen, which would force the wingers to carry the puck up the ice once receiving a pass from a defenseman, putting a lot of emphasis on their wingers to step up and out perform Florida's glut of great wingers. But if there's anybody who'd be capable of overcoming a strategic disadvantage, it's McDrai. Very interesting matchup. It should be a lot of fun.

I think the long time off makes people have a reconsideration of who should win and it becomes more overthinking.. Just a matter of which team imposes its will.. If Florida shuts down the PP and Edmonton cant score in the 3rd, all Florida has to do is stay close and its a matter of time. If Edmonton has their powerplay working as well as it has been, look out for Edmonton.

What a fantastic unbiassed breakdown. Was there not any reference to special teams comparison? Although Florida is pretty stellar on the kill and power-play, the Oilers power-play is obvious, but to not mention that the Oilers have killed 28 consecutive penalties, at 94%, was a surprising oversight. Which, by numbers, clearly gives the Oilers special teams advantage.

It should be pointed out, Shannon, that the distance (therefore flight times) between the contending cities' arenas is the longest ever in the history of the (NHL-era) Stanley Cup Finals. It is also, I'm led to believe, the longest trip for a final in *_any_* pro sport in North American history (which kinda means the whole world - aside from Russian football matches). This factor will certainly affect scheduling for a 2-2-1-1-1 series. It will also affect the players - on both sides - both physically and mentally. Look out for that kind of "vigour-versus-fatigue" element in this series. I'm going to be pretty sedentary by comparison, and I'm looking forward to it!

Both teams are very evenly matched except for one thing ---- Oilers have the best hockey player in the world. Oilers have the best power play. Gonna be a great series! My prediction Panthers in 5. Honestly taking that big risk for saying 5 but Panthers were there last year and had the feeling of losing in the finals. That playoff run taught them how to win, and I think they'll play every game, giving it there all to end this quickly. Especially since they are alot healthier. Oilers won't be a easy team. I think game one will be a high scoring game and then it'll slow down. All games will be 1 goal games with some in OT much like the rangers series so OT wins are gonna matter a lot in who will get the edge. Sucks that they waited a week only because this was the week I had off😩 but hopefully the games make up for it with the best series we've seen!! I hope if the Oilers win it's in a OT Controversial perry goal. Perry did that to the oilers and won back in 2017. Only seems fair he gives them that energy😂🤣

This analysis is basically an offensive one. The Panthers game is not pouring on goals... it's puck possession. How well will they match up in the corners and along the boards is not addressed. @lukash92904 ай бұрын
The thing is, take McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard out and the Oiler lose almost all of their offense. Take Tkachuck, Barkov and Bennett out for the Panrthers - that would OBVIOUSLY hurt them a lot, but that still leaves them with Verhaghe, Reinhart, Lundell, Rodrigues and Forsling to fuel their goal scoring. And Bob has the edge on the goaltening. Florida is the better team top to bottom, whereas Edmonton is top heavy - it's just a question of will top end offense or depth win the deal (and usually, it's the depth that wins you the cup)

I'm not complaining, but I still don't understand why the refs missed that high stick and didn't go to video, but did miss the high stick in OT and went to video in order to get the call right. I'm on board with them caring about getting the call right, especially on one so obvious in hindsight, I just didn't know refs were allowed to stop the game and go to replay to get that right, and I don't understand why they didn't do it both times. Neither review would have slowed the game down, they were both incredibly obvious from most angles.

Similarly I didn't expect Edmonton to deal with the Stars so handily. And as a result of this I expect Esmonton to play with so much fight I wouldn't be surprised if the series went 4-2 for the Oilers. So my question will be how much drive do the Panthers have and can they outdo all the skill and want in that Oilers team. If the series ends up lopsided either way it'll be a bit disappointing and feel like the losing side just didn't get their engines going, because both of these teams have what it takes to win.
