When comparing d&h vs live loading, you have to consider the time it takes to find an empty trailer when one isn't at the original customer, and getting that trailer repaired if needed. Keeping the same trailer, you know it's in good shape.

I remember the day in 2015 when somebody from Werner called and begged me to stay after a couple of weeks notice. There were a few reasons why I switched to Crete. I told him that they pay more per mile. He said that they may not give you many miles. That was totally wrong. Those split loads kept me from moving. I would wait for another load after dropping at terminals and yards almost every time. It would most likely be the next day for another load. With Crete, they have kept me moving all the time for seven years now. I appreciate the Crete driver who talked me in to it. He drove for Werner as well and discussed the same issues that I had with them as well.

You have good load planners and/or asset managers. I sit long time after empty for preplan. It all depends on load planners & asset managers. The good ones send preplans before your empty. Congratulations to you for great load planners and asset manager. Yes, live loads suck. We all have them, they do waist our time. You are doing all the right stuff in making it stress free.
@TheJoyofTrucking Жыл бұрын
Oh man! That is NOT good! Sorry to hear that! It has been slower than when Kevin started, but he does generally have a pre-plan before he delivers (though sometimes he has to bug them). And sometimes the loads are not good use if his time at all so he turns them down as unproductive. Can you ask for a different asset manager if this one isn’t keeping you busy and productive?
@michaelroot40512 жыл бұрын
Keven I have been working for Crete for 6 years and I have some feedback that might be helpful to you. Running day shift there are more live loads offered on pre plan’s. I run night shift and get mostly all drop hooks, And if your looking to make money ask for loads going west and you will get long loads. Also you can always find a parking spot at the end of your shift. BTW. I most always get my mileage and safety bonuses each quarter. Well I hope that helps, and I too stay out 3 weeks at a time. If they require drivers to spend the time on trailer maintenance/inspection, they should at least give the driver a set amount to make up for lost time. I understand not wanting to pay per hour, because some drivers would definitely abuse that, but say an extra $50-$100 per required inspection.

Oh hello again! Lol!! Yes…Crete has a few terminals. I think Swift has the most…I think like around 40??? Crete has about 20. We stay at rest stops quite a bit as we aren’t big truck stop fans either (though we like the showers). One thing worth mentioning is that a lot of customers allow overnight parking at their places. The load description sent to Kevin will always specify that. So that might work well for you too in terms of avoiding truck stops. But, sadly, you are right…there are no APUs. What is the purpose of splitting all the loads at Werner? I haven’t heard Kevin say anything about that to much at Crete. I’m just trying to find out if there is a purpose for them to do that. Thanks.
@TheJoyofTrucking Жыл бұрын
We don’t really understand why Werner does that. Other than we have heard that they like to give them to local drivers. But it doesn’t make sense to us and is very frustrating for drivers. They say it’s to help drivers get to hometime. But Kevin started looking at loads and they were split many times, way too many for that to be the reason. At Crete they do not split loads unless you ask for it because of timing issues making the load unproductive for you. It’s one of the things we love about Crete. 😃🥰

I also had to keep changing my plans at least one day a week. Not knowing where I will end up sleeping and possibly no shower was stressful because of swapping with another driver at a truck stop. I have to specifically plan my trips. Every single day, I worried about messages coming through to swap while ruining my plans. Then it may be a live unload at a consignee with no overnight parking and my hours running low while not knowing how long it will take. The dispatchers did not know or so they say as to how long I would be there. So how was I to know? These swaps and splits were forced on me or so I thought. I did not have much experience at the time not realizing that I did not have to accept it. These dispatchers acted like I had to. Crete never tried to force me to drop at a terminal or swap.

Hey there. Sorry for slow reply. Yes. We think Werner is a good company for rookies. The pay is decent for starting and they have a lot of different accounts. Terminals are nice and give you a chance to meet other drivers to talk and learn. The training you can do online is an excellent resource and the simulator provides good training!! Kevin credits his blowout training on simulator for preparing him to handle the real life blowout we had in a safe manner. You’ll have frustrations, for sure, but we think it’s a good place to start. That said…Kevin got his CDL with Phoenix Truck Driving Institute for $4,000 that he paid out of pocket. Then he worked for Werner and got tuition reimbursement. If he’d gone to Roadmaster it would have cost more. The training is probably better, but you don’t have to go to Roadmaster to work for Werner. As for endorsements…you can do that yourself. No problem. Study the info and write the tests. The schools do t contribute anything to that. Hope that info helps!! Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

I drove for Werner back in 2007 when I got my CDL. They were my starter company and I had issues from day 1. My trainer was a heavy smoker which I requested a non smoker trainer,he was extremely nasty kept pee bottles everywhere. He also forced me to sleep on the top bunk while he drove,back then and I’m sure that today they run it as a team truck. I started at .26 cpm and after taxes I only net around $370 a week. I wanted to get my 6 months experience and after 6 months, I left. Werner then reported that I abandoned the truck after I quit which was a lie! My home terminal was in Allentown PA which I think they moved since or Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania and I left the truck at the Allentown terminal and gave the keys to the office staff. I had to get legal help from a organization that helps truck drivers to get that abandoned truck off my DAC. I would never ever recommend Werner to anyone.

Seems like you had a bad experience with them. I’ve been with them 1.5 years and don’t have any complaints. Everyone has a different experience, and I’m sure it applies to any company.

Wow!!! So sorry!!!! That sounds terrible!! We appreciate you sharing your story! Hopefully you still had a good career in trucking with other carriers!! Judging by your KZbin name you didn’t let the rough start deter your from driving!! Good for you! Thanks for watching our video!

Local tanker work pays more and you'll be home everyday. Stop working for free.

Do they have profit sharing? More than likely not. Some of us are working for more than ONLY the paycheck. I’ll retire by 50, simply by working for Crete.

@@pointnIaugh Good for you. Tanker work is a completely different type of work. Many don't want to do it. There are all sorts of local jobs. There are all sorts of drivung jobs of all kinds. Everyone does what they feel is best for them.

@@Dobbs3 My bad. I meant to say that I work for a larger company than Crete. So yes, they do have profit sharing.
