Great video, I too agree with your comment about the new competitors. The reliability of the Bosch is legendary, and the service is also available nearly everywhere. I can't wait to see what the fifth generation will be like.

People always think more power or watts is everyrhing. I have tried shiano. High end latest gen bike with specialized motor. I have latest gen bosch on my gen 4 rail. Bosch wins all day for me. The immense push in technical lines with bosch is unmatched. Idk about dji. But tkme will tell. K skmplu tji k more torque does not mean better imediately. Alot of other stuff matters. Balance, support, system integration into frame, acceleration, sensitivity of the motor. Bosch is bosch. Im interested in new dji though

Nice video Alex. I was a Shimano EP8 user until a couple of weeks ago, I changed on Bosch for one major motive (in my opinion ) . Even with the new EP801 and the new update for overrun, you still can't service a Shimano motor like you can with a Bosch or a Brose. Thinking that you spend a small fortune for your "toys" I like to know that if I have a problem ( out of the warranty period) I will be able to fix it without changing the bike. Even that the EP801 is out in the market for more than a year is difficult maybe impossible to find an aftermarket motor to buy.

Yeap, i own 2 ebikes with ep8, but want to upgrate my yeti160e to a new ep801, but there is not motor on amazon to buy & dealer only sales is out of stocks, so only way to upgrade is buying a new ebike. I deff will go to dji ebike next time

@@porrocowait for 2gen DJI or even 3rd 😂. I know DJI for 10 years. Their 1 gen always sucks. After 2 years there is still no update for functions I bough for. DJI 😅

Did you take into account during the test that the overrun is interrupted during the backpadel? which is an extra shimano function to interrupt the overrun.

@@zerschbel3419 I did, I tried every method to maximise or minimise the over run effect. It's different to the Bosch. If you want pure overrun, the Bosch has more. The 801 has a bigger wave of power after the initial few pedal strokes. The Bosch has a slightly higher power on the initial pedal strokes.

extended boost a saver when biking in mountain water carved ruts where pedaling is not really an option, I recently tried to pedal in such a case, struck a rock and fell immediately I ended up holding my pedals horizontal and or pushing with my feets instead

With ZF & DJI they will just use over the air update done though your phone via the app .no need to waste your time going into a dealer thats old school.

@@dallasdrew2390 i Just bricked a Shimano motor doing an over the air update. It failed halfway through. Still need to go to a Shimano dealer to sort it.

Too much overrun will can get you in a heap of trouble. IMO any more than the equivalent of 1/2 pedal rotation is dangerous.

Yes, it could, the Bosch race has the most I've tried. It is useful and a lot depends on the skill of the rider. Shimano have created the ability to vary the amount.

rim magnet is impossible to tune drive more than 25 kmh , it's a BIG problem

i hate to bring you bad news but several 2025 bikes with the "secret" bosch cx engine (annoucement 1st oct 24 supposedly) have the rim magnet, they hid the specs and remote-display also the logo side of the motor but you can see the wheels have the rim magnet, wouldn't surprise me both from a legal standpoint but also reliability as going faster drains more current and becomes a fire hazard

Those motors are thing of the past, now shimano step ahead in power, range & software interface. Everything can be done via app

There is marketing, then there is a product actually making it to market and the end user experience. If the big companies Shimano and Bosch struggle sometimes, imagine what thaose with less experience are going to do. Lets see what happens, we can hope there is shake up.
