I just got a Pivot Shuttle LT with the EP801 last weekend and made sure they had the updated firmware in it when i bought it. i haven't changed anything in the app yet, but you definitely notice the overrun. I haven't tried a Bosch bike to compare, but i really like the 801 so far.

Unfortunately, BOSCH is still clearly better for racing purposes. And I write this as an owner of a Spectral CF on the Shimano EP801 platform.

Would have been better to compare it to the Bosch CX non Race motor. Most people running Bosch don't have the Race version.
@PabloOlea593 ай бұрын
That's true, but the point was compare the race version from Bosch and the update from Shimano to catch up on races. Very few people with Shimano motors are able to access to factory stuff. If Shimano can keep up with Bosch with the update you could choose way more different bikes and not just be forced to buy a Bosch motored one.

Totally agree but unfortunately or fortunately I only have the Bosch race so we need to use what we have.

@@SamsBikesactually Bosch Race turbo mode is exactly the same as standard Bosch Turbo… it’s just the “Race” mode that unlocks the extra power and over run.

You can do the firmware update from your phone, you don’t have to go into a bike shop to get it done. What you can’t do without the PC software is enable the overrun and aggressive cutoff as those settings aren’t visible in the phone app till October In New Zealand they’ve also enabled you to up the speed cutoff from 32km/h to 45km/h, though that requires a shimano rep to do it

Nice test, but i think it's more for a show than for a real result. I think it would be better to show which motor is stronger if You would test this way: Use a power meter pedal (to be more accurate than what the motor shows) and test the bikes with the same cadence (same gear ratio) and same leg power (100 watts, 150 watts , 250 watts), same tires, same tire pressure, and which bike goes the fastest. You only need a 10-15% tarmac uphill like one km long. (sorry for my poor english)

Bosch is now a moped. It tears and is difficult to control. Shimano still remains faithful to the concept of a bike. And then, since Shimano introduced EP801, it has been dominating the E-EWS world championship. There are many variables to consider in a motor. I prefer Shimano EP801 absolutely.

Although the Bosch is more powerful, I was so impressed with the Shimano how it was performing uphill during the day. For sure Shimano is closer now.

I have a Canyon Spectral with EP8 today, and looking at the new Canyon ON (But I do not like a lot of design choices) or the Canyon Strive ON With Bosch motor (not the race edition). How do the motors feel when you hit the speed limit on fire roads?
@PabloOlea593 ай бұрын
Both are pretty similar, but maybe the Shimano has an smoother transition when you reach the limit, if we talk on boost-turbo mode, in lower assistance modes both are almost seamless.

Bought a bike with an EPA motor it was so underpowered compared to the competitors. I would never buy another Shimano engine powered sbike. Shimano deserted its customer base with no upgrades whatsoever and now they want you to buy an EP801. My next upgrade was going to be to a Bosch powered bike.. however both Bosch and Shimano are in catch-up mode. I will only consider now at DJI power bike or opinion mgu powered Bike . Shimano and Bosch have been caught with their pants down.. have shown that they’re not innovators in the industry and don’t provide real investment for Bike owners

They really failed the update. I can't fathom who programs these bikes or makes these decisions. Do they have any mtb experience? Bosch has had the winning formula for 3 years now. You can do a full crankback rotation on Bosch gen4 and the motor stays on. You can do about quarter crankback on the new Shimano EP801 update because they decided it's a great idea to cancel the overrun when you backpedal... It just boggles the mind how these decisions are made. Let's add overrun but then make it stop when you need it... My brain just dies thinking about this.
@SamsBikes3 ай бұрын
I like the cancel of the overrun but I can see why you might not your right maybe they should have to turn off if you want to
