Comparison Sig Sauer P229 Legion SAO and Staccato C2

This comparison will be done again. Wasn't the range day I wanted.

I have a stacatto p duo and 226 legion rx sao. I shot them side by side yesterday as i was thinking of unloading one for a cqb. The stacatto is hands down better in my hands. The legion is smooth but has a little flip to it. The grip is better on the legion. It simply grips your hand better. The sti was flatter, faster and more accurate in my hands both slow and fast fire. They are both fun to shoot. Sti is a little more fun though. Both are excellent firearms and will serve you well. The Sti is better imo but also cost 1k more. The legion does have some tool marks you could see and the finish isnt the greatest although I haven’t had any issues with mine but its been babied. The sti could use a little dehorning on some small parts like safety and grip safety. Both are production guns. Trigger and reset on the legion is good. Sti is better and faster. Hope that helps someone make a decision.

@TJ All very good points. Now you know how I feel when I was making this video. I guess one way to solve this is the Staccato and the Legion have a baby and get the best of both worlds with two great firearms. Thanks for watching, greatly appreciate it!

I have the Sig P226 Legion SAO, the P229 Legion SAO, and the P229 Legion DA/SA; and want a Staccato P duo but was thinking it would not be much different than my Legions--all of which I shoot very well. From your experience with the Staccato I'm all the more tempted. You've got me rethinking. Thanks again.

@@stevestone5671 I've had the 229 Legion for about 2 years now as my carry gun and I just got a Staccato P Duo...and let me tell you, the P Duo is absolutely incredible. It's obviously a little heavier and has a longer barrel, but it is worth every penny. Shoots faster, flatter, softer, just an amazing gun. Get one, you won't regret it, seriously you won't. I absolutely love it. I'm debating getting the C2 for carry now.

My LGS has the regular staccato P, but I was holding out for the DUO. Thinking about having this one cut for my optic since the DUO will be hard to find anytime soon.

@@stevestone5671 I was in the same boat. My Legion SAO’s in 229 and 226 are finished in black cerakote and optic ready. They’re both limited LE editions. I was thinking about getting a Staccato but decided not to. My Legions can do everything the Staccato can. The Legions cost less and have better aftermarket availability as opposed to the Staccato. I sent both Legions in to MK3 Firearms for their single stage trigger work and now the trigger has an immediate wall with a 4lb break, no creep and a short and tactile reset. All that and I still saved approximately $1200 in overall cost by purchasing the Legions.

I have the 229 Legion SAO also. When I first got it I had my reservations about it because iI was so use to the P226 and P220 that I also have. I could not get it to work right. I had to do some adjustments with my grip because my other Sigs were basically a cheat code making me think i was better than I was. But, the P229 is my favorite. It conceals well and comfortable. Now there is a little heft to it at 32 oz. But I'm use to it. With is P229 SAO Legion I bet my life and my family against it any day.

I'm curious. I have the p226 legion. In what way was it a cheat code so to speak as opposed to the p229? In my case I shoot my p226 legion so well it rivals my Dan Wesson 1911 in accuracy, (kind of blows me away actually) but now you got me curious as to how the p229 legion shoots by contrast. What was your subjective or objective experience between the two?

@@rudrashakti108 For me it was I felt it was the grip angle of the P226 was better. My bananas seem like it could wrap around it a little better for me. But the P229 felt like it was better tuned for me as shooter. I don't understand why but Im happy it does. Whats funny is that Ive sold that P226. I moved to a more expensive brand. But my P229 still sits by my bedside just in case.

@@Mrdanielmesa Right now I kinda go between 2. I drive trucks for a living. I'm in and out of the truck often and moving around. So during the week I carry my Staccato C (single stack) with an extra mag. It is SUPER comfortable. Its like having 10 $1 bills in your pocket. But on the weekend I carry one of my double stacks.

Like the ergo on the Sig and the reset, but I like the break of the Staccato better plus it shoots flatter. Plus the Staccato controls are more traditional and manual safety is nicer. And you can't beat how smooth the slide is on the Staccato.

The Sig has a proven track record, cheap mags and Sig customer service outstanding. For those reasons I would pick the P229.

Mec gar makes flush fit 17 round mags for the 226/229. Also you can work the slide with the safety on with the legions. Never had a more accurate handgun than my legion 226. Prefer the 1911 triggers but there is a magic vodoo formula with the 226/229s when it comes to one hole groups. If you miss a 2 inch circle off hand at 10 yards you are doing something dramatically wrong.

I own the Sig p229 legion. Noone should argue that it is better than the Staccato. But noone should be debating these two anyways. The Staccato costs $1,200 more. Reguardless, the p229 legion is one of the highest quality pistols. It blows the majority of pistols out of the water. 33% of policemen carry that pistol for a reason. I've never shot a Staccato, I cannot afford them, but it's my favorite pistol, if I could pick it.

That was true of the earlier competition style pistols but I've had a C2 duo since the 2cnd month they were available which I carry daily and shoot weekly sometimes almost daily and I've not had 1 single solitary issue. It's actually shooting better and the wear and tear has been less than what you'd expect or get outta most any pistol. Takedown is more complicated but def not difficult. As with any 1911 type pistol (weapon period in my opinion) you should do routine cleaning and maintenance which I've done a little more frequently but that's just because it's freaking expensive and I'd do the same with anything I payed that much for. But it runs smoother and more accurate than any pistol I've ever fired 1911, 2011, or striker fired that are comparable in size including other high-end options such as Wilson combat edc-x9. I know several law enforcement guys that carry the C2 or the P on duty as their primary weapon daily and they swear by them. You can f one up if you don't follow the disassembly properly with the tensions but every day use nah it's a very tightly built pistol - nothing even slightly rattles on mine to this day and the only thing I've replaced was a spring and it wasn't broken or malfunctioning.

You can run the 18 and 21 rnd mags as well as the mdx but know with mdx the slide doesn't lock back - not a malfunction just how the mags are designed to hold more rnds.

Great video, I have a P229 Legion DA/SA and I seldom shoot it. When I do, I love it, especially the reset. The 229 wants to go fast. I'm thinking of direct milling a Holosun on it.

@@KeanonGilliamSlang369 It was from my favorite pawn shop for 800 with taxes. I couldn't pass it up, they had two. This one had 5 mags. It took Sig forever to send the soft case and Legion coin. The other one had two nice leather holsters almost new.

Most have a big cavity and he charges extra for a plate. He said mine would be easy and can be direct mounted. I will have MK3 Firearms do it. They do great work and I trust them.

So I have a C2 as well and the actual grip length is much longer than the Staccato website says. Mine measures 5.75 with the magazine in.

Man, I've never tried that ammo but I've shot every Sig legion series and none of them run better than the C2. Not a single one. Guess it's just your preference or if Sig is the style weapon you've used a great deal then that could be it I guess. But for a 3.9" barrel the C2 is an extremely smooth and flat shooter. More so than Sig, Wilson Combats... you name it in a carry conceal type pistol.

I've had 3 sigs, p226 tacops da/sa, p220 hunter sao, and p320 x5 legion. None of them came close to my staccato in any aspect. The only thing sig has is a lower price point but in my experience they're still overpriced and they're just not on the same level.

@@KeanonGilliamSlang369 i just recently got rid of my last 2 sigs. I'm not sure how the p220 legion compares to the elite hunter but the trigger on mine was terrible. I ended up getting an armorycraft dual adjustable trigger and race hammer to hopefully remedy it but never got the chance to install them before I traded with some cash for a c2 duo with 508t gr. I think it was a fine comparison of 2 similarly sized pistols that were designed for the same purpose, I just don't agree with your choice for the better of the 2. I haven't gotten to try my c2 out yet since I'm waiting for the inefficient background check to finally go through but my p 4.4 is by far my favorite and best shooting handgun. I look forward to the rest of the comparisons though even if I don't agree with your findings 👍

@Charles Groves At the time of this video it was near pre pandemic. The Staccato C2 is a faster shooter, very accurate firearm versus the P229 Legion. The Legion is no slouch though. The price currently on the Staccato drastically went went up. You can live with the Legion. I did a post/video about the pricing of the Staccato, maybe time for another one.

@@KeanonGilliamSlang369 That’s what I was told when I bought it, years ago. Will look into it. Btw, the trijicon sights loose their luminescence after ten or so years and needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, they didn’t start making the Legion until relatively recently, which is somewhat of an improvement over mine. Still a great pistol that I am happy with. At least 40 S&W seems to be easier to come by than 9mm.

Staccato is better than Sig Legion 229/226 or any other Legion for the matter of fact. BUT it costs $1000 more too... so in cost benefit analysis, I'd say Sig wins. For an average Joe, get a Sig Legion. I am LEO and I need something that can help me even if it is the slightest. So my go to is Staccato P. I would totally buy Wilson Combat SFT9 over Staccato P but my department, just like other PD's don't approve WC for duty carry. If you can, go buy WC SFT9 and you won't regret it. It's perfect in every aspect.
