I I love your channel. Because of you and Miss Cools, I am running Gravel King 700 38c S/S on my gravel bike. And running 700 38c Gravel King Slicks on my carbon road bike. Previously, I ran 45mm on gravel and 32mm on road. I opted for the Panaracers for the “gentler” prices compared to Rene Herse. I do have back up wheels for each bike (32mm and 45 mm) . I’m must say, I love the supple tires from Panaracer. I run everything tubeless and at just lower pressures than max. Also got a really cool RUTHWORKS bag. Thank you for the information, inspiration, and motivation. You guys are awesome.

Thank You - I also appreciate your calm demeanor. I dislike a lot of editing and cuts and yelling at me. I try not to do that on my channel

Many MTB riders use the more durable casing in the back. One small reason being what you mentioned.

Sweet update, man. Love seeing West County in all its green glory... Hey I didn't realize you have Mafac cantis in front on your rando bike. You should do a video, if you haven't already, on your rando build and why you chose what you did for the bike. Is your light battery or dyno-powered? Regarding the experience with Compass rubber, I've had a similar time with Compass and Grand Bois rubber, great supple riding and few if any flats.

Thank you, John. Great topic suggestion. In fact, I'm planning to do a similar video on a new bike being released next April. I'll take your suggestions and hopefully include a little commentary on my bike choices, why I chose them, and what I like and dislike to include a topic on brakes. The light is battery powered. A dynamo is certainly the better option, and it's on my short list to upgrade soon. I just happened to be riding with a friend tonight and thankfully she has a dynamo. We were out a little past sunset. Please keep checking back and hopefully I'll have a video posted up.

Are these tires directional? Just bought the same ones and just wanted to make sure

Hi Jonathan, They have a file pattern (chevron) with an angle and they typically set up with the file pattern "arrow" pointing forward. However, I have run them in both directions and haven't noticed any difference, so it shouldn't matter.

Tried to from Seattle to SFO on Bon Ton Pass (700 X 35 I think) tires. Got 6 flats in 600 miles. In Crescent City I swapped them out for RiBmos. It may be they are not suited to loaded touring or the pressure was too high, 60 psi. However they were such a nice ride I'm using the 26" version on my new Rodriguez and have 2000 flat free miles on them now at 40 psi.

I've discovered with these tires it's better to run them at a lower pressure than what you might normally ride. Also, I watch for sharp objects and glass on the shoulders of the road. These two things have really helped me from getting flats. My current set of 48 mm wide tires have only had one puncture in 2400 miles. I set the back tire to 35 psi and the front to 30 psi for road riding, and a little lower if I go off-road.

@@Henrywildeberry Are Compass tires the same as René Herse? I just bought some René Herse Rat Trap Pass 26x2.3 tc (riding a 1993 Rockhopper). I'm 165 pounds and wondering what would be a good PSI for pavement or hard dirt/gravel. Any suggestions? Thanks!
@Henrywildeberry
@Henrywildeberry 4 жыл бұрын
@@LaserrSharp Rene Herse was formerly named Compass. I'd start with 20 psi. If it feels too soft add 2.5 psi. If it's too hard try letting out 2 psi. These tires like to be run at low pressure. You'll know when they are too low the bike will feel like it wants to wander on road. Good luck!

Have to say 2500 miles is a pretty short life even for a rear tyre.

@@Henrywildeberry Sure. It still seems like not very much. I reckon I ride 5000 to 7000 km a year on mixed tracks (gravel) and road and I don't get that kind of wear. No criticism intended, I'm just surprised. Everything else I've heard about Compass tyres has been good.
