The engineers ground run the Comper Swift, making sure its Pobjoy Niagara engine is in good working order.
Shuttleworth's Comper Swift was built in 1932, and spent many years of its live living in India. Its owner - Alban Ali - christened it the 'Scarlet Angel'. In 1933, Ali planned to fly from Calcutta to Heston, but while en route to England he entered the Viceroy's air race at Delhi. Richard Shuttleworth was also in attendance at the race, and was then the director of the Comper Aircraft Company.
Today, the Comper Swift can be seen flying regularly at Shuttleworth air shows from May to October.
The Shuttleworth Collection in Bedfordshire, England is home to a vast array of vintage aircraft, vehicles, as well as agricultural machinery. The Collection hosts a series of flying days from May to October each year, and is open to the public on non-flying days as well.
