Labor unions are a labor cartel designed to establish a monopoly for the sake of price fixing, which is harmful to the entrepreneur, the company, the free market, the production costs of goods, the consumer costs of goods, and ultimately harmful to the consumers. Monopolies and price fixing are illegal when corporations and big businesses do it, as competition is good for the consumer. Labor prices, like any other commodity, should be determined by supply and demand. The natural tendency of a labor union, which is socialistic and anti-free market capitalism in its philosophy, is more pay for less work which means a less productive and less prosperous society. Income should be increased by increasing your knowledge, skills, and contribution to the market place, not by forming a labor union cartel to monopolize the labor market and fix the price of labor by picketing extortion schemes. Free market capitalism would let the labor market competition drive up the quality of the labor skills, which is good for the consumer or purchaser of labor and good for the consumer of goods.
