Ive had a 12x9 with room enclosure for about 4 years. From Competitive Edge. Love it. Actually ran into a Family at North Beach Burlington q who had the same tent and the pickup tent. Micro burst came through and took out a lot of large trees and tents no issues. Great site and great tents. Thinking of this tent and stove. I am a disabled vetw and set the 12x9 up alone.

Thanks for sharing! Did you need to use extra guy ropes during that big microburst?
@MrGiXxEr2 жыл бұрын
Finally had a chance to set this up with my new 12x12. One suggestion I have for people is to remove 2 stakes from one side of the zipper front on the vestibule, the side you want to go through. With all 6 stakes in you really can't get through the opening when you unzip the door. If there was a zipper across the bottom this would fix that, there just isn't enough room to step through the gap. Didn't have issues unzipping with only one side staked.
@MrGiXxEr2 жыл бұрын
Along with my setup suggestion for this vestibule, I feel like there is a major design flaw structurally for the entire setup. The ridge pole for the awning needs to be more solid across it's length. When you add this awning you lose 3 guy lines across the front, the major one being the ridge guy line. Sure, it attaches to the new ridge post but the ridge bar has one wing nut to tighten the telescoping section and the other section needs to be pressure fit or else they pull apart. What happens when you tighten the ridge guy line? It pulls the ridge bar apart. A strap to pull the two ridge posts together is whats missing.

Fantastic video; I'm looking to buy a set up just like this one in the video the tent and the add on area, a stove and items for our summer lodge use. We want to get rid of our motorhome and start setting up a tent for the summer season and then adventure out from the tent on extended weekend trips. Summer up here in the arctic is short and intense, and one should expect cold nights and possible snow any time of the year. Of course rain is also present a lot too. The front area with the screen windows will make for a mosquito / bug free area to lounge in, and relax in. Thank you for posting, the quality looks like we could get many years of joy out of the tent.

I got my tent and enclosure last week. I have had it set up since Friday. Have had some crazy rain events, Probably 3 to 4 inches today. Tent is bone dry inside. Getting some water coming in through the zipper and riding down the side rails of the enclosure. Less than a soup can full in the whole enclosure. I think its coming because the top flap is curling up that covers the zipper. Maybe Ive got something pulled to tight but I dont think so. They could add a few velcro sections and it would go away. Have you noticed any moisture? Love the tent. Very Impressed. Downloading a video on my you tube.
@Competitiveedgeproducts4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. The enclosure does help protect from the elements, but I wouldn't call it water tight - especially since it doesn't have a floor. But, the tent portion itself should not let in a drop of water. I've had some come through (in the form of snow) under the wall with a huge windstorm. I've had to adjust the velcro near the bottom as well. Thanks for sharing.

A couple of questions for you. I spent quite a bit of time in the military when I was much younger, and we spent a lot of time in the field, in canvas Army tents. I loved those tents, but you were definitely not setting one up by yourself. So I have experience living in a canvas tent. So to my questions, 1) How heavy material is the Kodiak canvas ? Does it compare to military canvas ? 2) Are there liners available for these tents ? Military canvas tents have an extra liner for the walls in the winter, which really helps retain heat. 3) what kind of floor liner do these Kodiak canvas tents come with ? Or is that a separate purchase ? I am really considering buying from you next year, but, I do have concerns.
@Competitiveedgeproducts3 ай бұрын
Great questions. 1) The canvas walls are 8.5 oz and the ceiling is 10 oz with the flooring being 13.5 oz vinyl. 2) There are floor liners. I've never heard of extra wall liners. 3) The floor liners are sold separately as they are optional. Feel free to contact us with any other questions.

I own the Kodiak Flex Bow 10x14 and have been nothing but happy with it. As awesome as it is, its just a bit small with the slanted walls for a 10 day hunt. I ordered the Kodiak Lodge tent and cook shack. Initial thoughts: On the tent, The tent is awesome. I Wish it had canvas storage bags . One of the most talked about feature of the Flex Bow is the genius storage bag. Another issue i had was the velcro ties for all the poles seem cheap. I would much rather have the plastic clips. But, my biggest knock on the tent is that there is no velcro tie on the back wall for the long pole center pole? This allows the wall to bow in significantly on that side. It may have even been the reason my tent was demolished in a wind storm we had last night. The cook shack: Not impressed in the least. I cannot understand why they didn’t have the roof line continue out beyond the tent for the roof and zip in sections for the walls and front. The usable space is not worth the hassle of the installation. I watched your video’s before so I had a game plan and it was almost an hour for both. that is too long.

Braden, I would reach out to Kodiak's warranty dept. My understanding is that they've modified the pole you are having issues with. I believe it now has a sleeve or the joint positioned lower, but please reach out to them and they'll get you taken care of. 801-508-2880 Ext. 3

I tent camp a lot. Two years ago I got the 12x9 cabin tent and moved to a Davis Big Boy cot. Completely upgraded the tent camping experience. The Canvas tents are a lot more comfortable. And getting off the ground t sleep seems to have made a big difference. I was getting cold and damp on an air mattress. I usually camp close to the vehicle. I wonder how that set up would work with the stove jack in the enclosure. It would get the stove off the vinyl floor and out of the tent. You could open the door/screen to let heat in the tent. Would Kodiak offer that option for the enclosure?
@Competitiveedgeproducts4 жыл бұрын
That's a good question. I know people have added stove jacks themselves in the enclosure portion of their 12x9 model 6133, but Kodiak doesn't have any plans in the foreseeable future. You make a good point with the cot. I've noticed that I sleep much warmer on the cots as long as I'm using the pad with it, but it's big difference when I reach my hand down to the floor (since heat rises) - it makes a bit of a difference. Here's the 6133 in case you are wondering, but it has a polydenier enclosure as opposed to canvas on this lodge tent model. www.competitiveedgeproducts.com/Kodiak-Canvas-Tent-6133-6-Person-9-x-12-ft-with-Deluxe-Awning-Canopy_p_14.html

We have the same tent and an alpine chef cylinder wood stove. We are new to this but are living in our tent while building our house. My husband stays up all night to make sure it doesn’t get to hot. We must be doing something wrong
@CharleyHansen2 жыл бұрын
Great question. The stove we use in the demo has a vent that is located on the door. It allows you to deprive the stove of oxygen to put it out or at least keep the fire smaller and therefore less hot. Does your stove have those vents? The damper does the same thing.

Thank you for your feedback. You shouldn't have to retreat it for several years, but it depends on how often you use it. If you are using it for camping here and there a few times a year for a few days a week you can go up to 10 years without treating it. If you're using it for a month at a time each year you may need to treat it at around four years and so forth. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the very informative video. Im leaning towards the 12x12. Is there a kodiak 12x12 tarp available for the inside and under the tent? I wish the 12x12 had a regular kodiak awning like some of their other tents. Not a fan of all the poles, but not a deal breaker tho.

There is not a 12x12 Kodiak brand tarp at the moment. It will likely be Spring earliest when you see one. The extra poles give the awning the extra stability for sure, but I hear yeah. People definitely add one after market, but we don't recommend it for liability reasons. It would be a bit of a challenge heating that two sides of that as stove heat would be stronger in the room the stove is located, but far less effective in the rooms where it is not located.
