I agree. Making camp setup as easy as possible is the key to enjoying it and doing it more often. Nothing is more frustrating than having to set up a tent then the fly then the pegs while its pissing down with rain. Then having to rummage through the 4wd trying to find things. Its not about luxuary its about being efficient in the setup and pack down times.

Thanks for standing up in defense of the comfy camp experience. I get a bit weary of being told that what I enjoy "isn't real camping" just because I have a little wash-stand + other comforts* in my tent, by guys who apparently go out into the wilderness with nothing but a flint, a knife & a loincloth. Personally, I'm of the opinion that so long as you're sleeping under fabric, you're camping, no matter what else you incorporate.

*A portable wardrobe, a dressing table (made from a roll-top table with legs on lowest setting) + stool (just a little pop-up storage ottoman with a cushioned top), one of those little collapsible side tables for a bedside, & a comfy folding papasan as a reading chair. I also use a packaway bed base under my airbed, the mattress itself covered with a wool-fleece mattress topper to fight that dreaded nighttime Airbed Chill[tm] (I also lay a foil-top foam sheet under the mattress, between it + the base), & topped with a memory foam overlay for maximum comfort. I don't like the constriction of sleeping bags for more than a night or 2, so I make the bed up full domestic with warm flannelette sheets & use a Rumpl, instead. I _always_ employ a heavy-duty groundsheet under my tent to protect the floor, + defend it from the other side via laying down EVA foam jigsaw tiles, topped with outdoor rugs for extra insulation value + decor points. My _full_ camp setup includes a Coleman Event 14 shelter for the kitchen + communal space for weatherproof gathering when needed, & a Kings long-flued oven/stove for warmth inside it (set up with the flue outside) or for cooking during partial firebans. We also have a portable firepit for when there isn't a ban, but there also isn't an existing fireplace (since I like to wild camp, but also adhere to Leave No Trace principles), + a tripod + grill for Dutch oven usage & barbequeing. . I have an LP bottle-top radiant heater of the most basic "turn off the gas to turn off the heater" type, which is just good to keep from freezing solid on cold mornings during the time it takes to get the fire started, or for group comfort at night (outside the tent) during total firebans. . My fireside chair is a cheap zero-gravity style, with a lovely, thick, button-tucked, full-length soft pad I found for $30 on eBay & which is comfy enough that if some freak accident happened to my tent + everything in it, I could theoretically repurpose it as a groundpad for sleeping on. . I have 1 inflatable + 1 folding sofa, + 1 inflatable tub chair, for if we have extra people join us, & we also have a tiny LED projector + polyester screen for collective entertainment in case of bad weather (we just use double-side tape to stick it up on the wall of whichever tent's big enough). . And we have a Weisshorn double "ensuite" tent, with a Kings electric pump shower hose + a Kings 20L chemical toilet (funny story, for that one; I actually unexpectedly _won_ a Thetford Porta Potti Qube 365 in a contest, so even though I'd been doing fine without a chemi-loo up 'til then, I decided to embrace the windfall, so I sold that, bought the Kings for under half, & pocketed the change! 😂). . Oh, & you know those little marshmallow forks that pull out like a car aerial to be like 3 feet long? I've got a full set of those little buggers, because it's just easier than searching for + trying to then clean a suitable switch, any time you want s'mores or personally-roasted sausages. Now, that sounds like a lot of gear, & it is, but the thing is that if I had to, I could go camping sans 90% of this stuff - in fact, if the trip is only a night or 2, I generally just take a cot, sleeping bag, tent, chair, baby wipes, mess kit, firepit + esky (...& my cowboy coffeepot, because you can pry my morning drug from my cold, dead hands) - but most of my adventures are 5 days or so, & over that much time, why be more uncomfortable then necessary? I don't actually _mind_ "roughing it" occasionally (such as when my ride doesn't own a trailer), per se, but I just don't get where the _moral purity_ is supposed to be in discomfort. And people who want to gatekeep enjoying the outdoors are just...weird.

Interested in how you pick good spots to visit too - what equipment do you use to navigate there, and what spares do you bring camping for the 'just in case'? Great vid - looking forward to the series. Cheers, DD

I just put a thumper pack in my 4x4 from home of 12 volt in s.a , runs my fridge great and completely removable 👍
@dillbags93394 жыл бұрын
Probably suggest a decent battery (something over 100Ah), a solar regulator and portable solar blanket. Then you can have your battery so it's completely portable and runs your fridge etc. Just make sure you get a good capacity battery and try to discharge it as little as possible. Get yourself a DC-DC charger or smart isolator (depending on what type of alternator you have) and you will be able to charge your battery both when setup at camp off the solar or whilst driving along all the time. Make sure you wire your DC-DC Charger into an Anderson plug that way you can remove it at any point you would like. Look through the 4x4 supacentre channel and search for their 12v system masterclass. There is multiple episodes which go into all of the above in great detail and after watching it I'm sure you will have a shopping list of stuff ready to go and an idea of exactly what you want to do. Good Luck!!
