Really like the blackened pasta pot! Instant street cred if you use it for home cooking, too! For me, aluminum foil is a big part of the equation: I can use it to cook stuff in the coals of the fire, for leftovers, or for whatever might come up.

Hi Kane, nice system! Great video also, lots of information, right to the point. Lately I've been doing a lot of tent/car camping with the family and we have a very similar kitchen system. We use old regular plates/fork/knives, plastic plates, old regular sauce pot and cast iron pan. For coffee we have insulated mugs, the cheap ones, no brand name. Wine metal glasses and corkscrew (very important). I have also a Coleman stove and a plastic collapsible sink. And our most expensive item is a nice big cooler (our fridge). Cooking is one of the things we enjoy the most while camping (and before camping, all the prep). What are your favorite recipes/meals? Have you ever used those portable grill/fire pits? GTF Outside!
@KaneDoesOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Hi Carlos, thanks for the feedback! 100% Agree - especially the corkscrew. I've learned the hard way about that & always have one now but try to make sure we bring screw cap wine. It's just easier. No reason to buy camping specific cookware unless it solves a real issue. I can't stand weird little cutlery. I'd also rather use real cookware and not worry about the handle falling off! I haven't used portable fire pits, but it's on my list to try. I have some ideas for basic recipe videos - I keep that pretty simple too. Where are you based? hahah GTF Outside!

DONT use metal spatulas and spoons on cast iron- youll destroy the seasoned coating. Use wood. I avoid plastic too. And NO STYROFOAM plates or plasic disposable cups.
@KaneDoesOutdoors6 ай бұрын
@@harrypierce1298 That exact pan has 25 years of hard use, metal on metal scraping, no issues. Eggs slide off of it. I can re-season a pan in about 3 minutes if needed, nothing complicated about it. Seasoning is just oil bonded to metal with high heat.
@harrypierce12986 ай бұрын
Of course you can use metal utensils- by why have to keep re-seasoning? I have several OLD cast iron pans that I had to completely strip to bare metal and start over due to rust or food that hadn't been cleaned in years- just sitting in someone's camping gear that never got used or cleaned. IMO, and most people that use cast iron avoid metal utensils. But use what works for you. 😁
@BrianKrienke5 ай бұрын
I use metal on all of our cast iron. Works great. Metal is also much easier to clean than wood when camping. Lodge even recommends using chainmail to clean.

@leonardgenovese77263 ай бұрын
Ok Thomas, it’s obvious you don’t use cast iron. Metal utensils won’t hurt the seasoning. You probably also believe you can’t use soap. Also completely wrong. In the old days, soap contained lye. Bad. Not any more. Metal against cast iron, really? If anything, the metal utensil will get damaged more than the iron.
@davidbeard27488 ай бұрын
Stop using metal spatula on cast iron!! You're damaging it.
@KaneDoesOutdoors8 ай бұрын
You can sandblast cast iron without damaging it. Literally. My father would get old cast iron sandblasted before repainting it. Zero issue. Scraping hard steel with soft steel does nothing.
@coltapodaca8 ай бұрын
Not damaging it at all. Best tool for it, really. I'm a chef.
@davidbeard27488 ай бұрын
Yes, it does damage. You are removing the seasoning of the cast iron. Argue all you want, but you are damaging it. I hope you don't wash it in soap either.
@jakilafaele40197 ай бұрын
Honey, I have used metal spatulas and steel wool on my CI for 50 years, never have I scraped my seasoning off. As for soapy water to wash it...I admit I didn't used to, but recently I found out it's the old soaps you shouldn't use, modern soaps don't have lye or something in them, so it's quite safe for them.

Paper plates... are you kidding me... you would think people who camp understand the importance of a small footprint not cutting down trees so your hands don't get wet.
@KaneDoesOutdoors7 ай бұрын
What kind of vehicle do you drive? How many times a year do you take a plane? I could go on and on. Couple of paper plates ain’t gonna change the world. I was camping solo with my two boys most of the time last year, so I’ll take anything that makes my life easier. The goal is to get out and get them having fun to develop an interest. We can worry about hugging trees and environmental impact audits later.
