You've transformed your suede/rough-out boots into waxed suede boots. That's fine if you want a waxed suede boot but if you want to retain the original suede finish you shouldn't add the mink oil to the outside of the boot. Normally you don't need to condition suede but if they really do need it then, if the boot is unlined, you can add mink oil to the inside of the boot at the risk of getting some on your socks the first few times you wear them again. Otherwise you can get spray conditioner for suede from Saphir though it's not a heavy duty conditioner If you want to make suede water resistant then the waterproofing sprays work well. The best I've used is Tarrago nano protector but there are many others that also work quite well and are a bit cheaper. These sprays also make it harder for dirt to stick to the suede and therefore make the suede shampoo more effective when you come to clean it.

Thanks for the thoughts on this. I'm kind a indifferent about the results as I do beat the crap out of these but if I wanted to keep the original look, I'd not be thrilled. I'll check out the Tarrago Nano! Cheers Brother

Came out great! Don’t think about the darkness either way from just wearing them they would have got dark. Now they are protected.
