Thanks for breaking things down and keeping it understandable. Listening to Answer the Call today, it can be hard at times to follow all the terminology. While I've dabbled in atmospheric racing, ship flight is very complicated to me. I can do fps combat, I've got probably 15k+ hours of experience in that, but flying a ship especially with 6dof, coupled/decoupled, space or atmo, it is hard to learn. On top of it you also have aim assist, esp settings, gimbal, gun/missile range and velocities, power management and more to come. I'm way more intrigued by everything surrounding ship battles like your choice of ship, armaments, components, power distribution, resource management systems. Take the Idris event, people had to utilize EMPSs, distortion weapons, basicly finding answers to a specific problem. Connie is the ship added to MM I've been the most excited to try, only played with it a little bit so far, I often find myself waiting for a match for too long so please go play AC MM people. Looking forward to the next video.

I view the bigger ship battles as that lot of that thinking game you're describing. The right equipment, power management, shield face control, all that. That would be the skill of larger ship combat. Good resource management and control. Probably that over everything else. I consider shield face turning and shield management in general part of that resource management for bigger ships. We will see how it gets when we finally get engineering. That will determine the true longevity of the bigger ships

You're really putting in the work and it shows. Great guide, I'm still very very new to PvP space combat and it's been a struggle though still fun. Gunship combat might be more up my alley than I thought based on this, I'm going to give it a better go.

@BuzzCutPsycho Yeah that 50% laser & 25% ballistic resist is nothing to sneeze at for the hardening (for now). I've just had more luck personally engaging a fight with everything to shields on the first pass or if I'm 3rd partying I'll set to weapons so I have a little more to dump and try to make that kill then engines or whatever other swaps are necessary from that point.

Amazing video, very clear and concise! I’d watch a vanguard/heavy fighter video if it comes out. Going to personally put more time in MM, realized there is a lot I don’t know and I’ve been judging it without learning it. Using the side shields like that in a Connie v Connie is awesome. I swear I rammed you in a snub, was flying too fast to furious and couldn’t handle it lol.

LOL You may have rammed me in the snub it has happened so many time times I lsot count. MM has a lot of depth though, just a different kind. A lot of it is decision making. You can get away with a lot using the big ships, even connie on connie. I am sure i will see more connie players rotating shields if this video gets even slightly popular :D

Constellations remind me so much of the Correlion Corvette from Star Wars. They are one of the best blockade runners and best at breaking out in a straight line while being able to take a lot of abuse while dishing out damage. They are going to be even better once armor is a major factor and size 1 through weapons basically have the same range. Seriously it’s insane to me that weapons one through four have the exact same range and then bam size fives has x2. Why not 15% range increase every tier ? Anyways, the constellation right now now can get eaten alive by light fighters but I think it and the Drake Corsair are all the best in the game. You can still fly them solo and still benefit from a few friends.

I've been saying for years that eventually bigger ships will (have to) become viable and that CIG shoves out overpriced (in relation) Fighters while people want them. I'm glad to finally see it starting to come true. CIG hasn't even been *THAT* misleading about it, once upon a time there was a statement by CR that a Conny could eventually take care of 3 Hornets. In the Perseus Q&A it was mentioned that it needs to aim at weakspots on capital ships with S7 guns when armor is in the game. So I hope CIG finally pulls trough with the change towards making bigger ships viable.

I think the days of light fighters are honestly numbered. Heavies with gunners will replace them in time mark my words. The big ships are coming.

@@BuzzCutPsycho I'm not sure about that, since fighters have gotten massive DPS creep over the years. Tough, that may depend on the definition of heavy. I could in theory see the Scorpius and the like performing well, but I don't quite see the average fighter crowd accepting then in masses (unless they get auto-turrets). I'm not sure about classic idea of something like a Vanguard as long-range escort / heavy fighter. That said, with big ships I mostly think about Perseus or even BMM (basically the big ships you could get cheap with the old CCUs). I do kinda wonder what becomes of the "in between" ships, which are bigger and less maneuverable (and/or more turret dependant) than the Conny, yet not having efficient designs or "capital" bonusses. Things like Starfarers, Caterpillars and so on. I'm pretty sure it would be fairly trivial to take out a Caterpillar in a Conny right now and I doubt those turrets could do much against either fighters or similar sized ships.

I love playing my light fighter, but I also have 15K into this game so I have a lot of large ships, so this is what I want to see, not having to always use a light fighter, seeing other content creators showing their strategies for using different kind of ships like the Connie, and in the future ships like the Naughty Nautalis.

Personally I try to have the energy in the system I am NOT currently using: while firing, the weapons capacitor doesn't recharge, so having the triangle set to weapons is a waste. The same goes for boosting and shields that are currently on cooldown because they have been hit. So my thinking is this: - Is it full already? - Does something prevent it from charging right now? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, the energy is probably better spent elsewhere.

For sure but don't forget the passive buffs you get from shield and engine now. Engine gives passive maneuverability outside of boost and shield is a flat 50% damage reduction regardless of remaining shields. So that plays a bit into it.

i just had an idea of what would maybe make turret gameplay feel a bit better and engaging, have it work a bit like a ships with gimbals. rn turrets dont need more than one hand to aim and shoot but what if the traversal from left to right up and down was controlled either with WASD for keyboard or your other stick if you use hosas and have an area around where you are aiming capable of moving you gimbals around much like the connie in the vid. would give your other hand something to do and i guess make it more challenging yet have better aiming capability at the same time would feel weird at first for sure but i dont think it would be to difficult to get down at first

Is your nose turning in the same direction as your pointing the guns while in gimbal mode? So it’s kinda like extra reach for your guns in the direction your steering towards? As far as I know and have done in game you either direct your noise to turn or weapons to shoot while nose stays steady while in gimbal mode, not both at same time. But I’m seeing you do both at same time, is it a MM thing and not in current PU? Guess Im not getting how both steering and gimbal direction are controlled at same time in same direction as it acts differently when i activate manual gimbal mode (steering is no longer in effect, only weapon direction)

They're not as good as just bringing another Connie but this is a design problem. But in general they don't track well and hardly hit. Next patch should fix them.

Just a heads up, you can remove the gimbal the top weapons to make them size 5, but the lower weapons have bespoke gimbals and will remain size 4. So max 2 size 5s and 2 size 4 on the Constellation

In MM. So 3.23 and above you no longer loose weapon size to gimbal. So here i had the 4 size 5s. :)

instructions unclear, all systems at 420%. on a more serious note, at what % of the weapons capacitor should I change the power setting away from weapons? 66%? 50%? also, what do you think about having the power setting at 83/17 or 66/33 between 2 systems? BTW: by default, you can hold down the default F-keys that control the power triangle and that will set the power to the max of the corresponding system.

I go from 0 to 100 and never bother with anything in between. I do that on live and on MM. I don't think the incremental gains made from say 50/50 are worth the massive buff from 100%. Tbh I don't think some of them kick in unless it is 100% such as the maneuverability or damage reduction. Perhaps everything under 100% is just a recharge capacity boost.

It's really hard to take down a Connie right now when it has so much shielding and 3rd parties are so deadly in MM. The Connie is definitely overtuned but it's nice that it's getting sometime to shine. It used to be the most abused ship in the verse.

Master modes makes for such pathetic gameplay styles. I just feel an overwhelming sense of disgust that we're gonna lose everything that is good about this game just so 40 year olds soloing giant ships can turn their guns onto "annoying gnats". Look, I'm 29, I'm getting there in not too long, but your arthritis holding you back doesn't justify your pressure to hold the game back. It's absolutely tragic how low the flight model of this game is being brought. There is no more excitement in the maneuvers, I am not longer pushing anything, my ship no longer has the ability to go "too fast to handle", I'm always left wanting. On a last note, uncrewed gunships should have no chance against a light fighter.
