Only thing different I would like to see is healing/lifesteal on the new delirium combo/impalement or lifesteal being put as an effect of bloodweapon since that fits thematically and gives more sustain to lower levels

Man, I'm gonna miss plunge. I remember first seeing it waaay back when they first did the Heavensward job action trailer and, like many others, I thought I thought it felt very Berserk-inspired. Despite WAR being "the wild one" as far as job fantasy is concerned, DRK felt like it had some rather savage aspects to it, and plunge was one of them. Just really reminded me of Guts jumping in while wearing the berserk armor.

Interesting to note for some XI fans. The 3 part combo off delirium uses Torcleaver as the final weapon skill, but the entire animation (or rather Comeuppance, and Torcleaver) is just the animation for Resolution (a different Greatsword weaponskill). Basically Torcleaver isn't Torcleaver, it's Resolution.

Here's the problem through, it's only going to be usable when you're doing lvl100 dungeons because the unlocks like 96. So you're still spamming quietus. I literally didn't think it was possible for them to make this class worse, but colour me surprised.

Sick animation upgrades and Living Shadow finisher, still big sadge that there has yet to be a weaker TBN like Shadowskin pre-70 for lvl sync, or more self sustain options (tho Shadowed Vigil excog is nice). Also hoping that pvp Drk still has Plunge. All in all, pretty decent for post-ShB Drk.... I guess

These changes look decent but the fact that DRK remains the only tank without the ability to self-heal consistently really feels bad, especially when you look at something like Warrior or GNB that essentially have those things on demand (and WAR has it with way less rotational complexity). Upgraded shadow wall is nice but also kinda requires healers to be aware you're going to get a large heal from it to be effective and I suspect in most dungeon situations it'll just be overhealing. I hope I'm wrong and it makes a tangible different in actual play.

The Shadow Wall upgrade seems like a built-in Excogitation, so scholars will have to get familiar with noticing that buff icon. Now that Enhanced Unmend has no Plunge to proc cooldown reductions on, maybe they should use it to reduce the Abyssal Drain cooldown instead. That would be actually useful, especially with repeated dungeon mob pulls.

DRK has been shit since Shb. Shb ruined the job and EW and DT did fuck all to change that. It basically plays the same as Shb DRK. This job is behind an expac when compared to other tanks. DRK is the only one who didn't get a powerful short mit like the other tanks because SE thinks tbn is good enough. The job lost part of its identity with mp management because Shb had to make it as braindead as possible. Now mana is a glorified charge system where you hold mana for 2 minute meta. Blood weapon took a whole expac and a major patch to change it from a timer to stacks. Living dead was the same pos for several expacs but it was most egregious in Shb when they took away DRKs sustain for no fking reason and still wasn't changed in EW until 6.1. God I hate what DRK has become. Literally none of the DRK feedback SINCE Shb was reciprocated because if it was DRK wouldn't look like this pos tank that SE doesn't know how to deal with. Many changes people have been asking for didn't happen until YEARS later. Fking hell what is SE doing with DRK?? If SE's objective was to make old DRK mains as bitter as possible, they've done a good job. Thanks, I hate it.

@@axylum4453 "TBN is good enough" is such an on point critique it hurts. This wonky, job defining ability that we don't get until level 70. I ran DRK through HW content while SB was still live, so when ShB came out, I had moved on to GNB. I did notice all the while though that it was rapidly copying WAR's homework and was still failing the class. After seeing WAR literally start memes about becoming healers in a party, I laughed when people told me DRK's main thing is DPS. It's a tank job. I'm not here for DPS, I'm here to be the last one standing, which I've noticed has become harder and harder to do with all but the slightest fuck up during pulls. Meanwhile, if a WAR dies, it's actually viable to blame them instead of the healer. I knew tank for DRK was a bad idea right from the start. It should've been a maiming, DRG level class with HP costing and restoring skills. Even GBN, which can much more easily be mistaken for a DPS job, can do more for the party at regular intervals. Honestly, at this point it's fine. I just pretend RPR is the DRK I always wanted since, according to FF11, they share weapons anyway and we still seem to be stealing stuff from that game.

Pretty on brand for DRK to get fuck all every expac. Easily most neglected job in the whole game. Does SE think these "style over substance" animations are enough to please the DRK mains? or people who don't even play DRK? You know it's bad that Yoshi brought up the topic of job identity as they were covering drk during the job actions live letter. There's no way that's coincidence. This is the one job that has had THE MOST complaints about job identity, surely SE is aware but their actions don't show that. So irritating.

They've said multiple times they specifically want to make it less busy. And even then, we lose 2 button presses during our burst phase with the removal of plunge which is an attack that has been meme'd on and complained about for so long. We got new delirium attacks with more damage and a new capstone with esteem. Honestly, DRK is my favorite class in this game and I don't see why blood weapon and delirium not needing separate buttons is so bad. Maybe the weaving aspect just isn't the allure of the job for me?

@@Cheshire_Addams If they'd actually give us other buttons to fill up the space, yeah i'd be with you. But they didn't, the job is being oversimplified and doesn't get anything in return. You might be suuuuper excited for the glowy and flashy stuff now, but i can assure you the gameplay itself is going to be strictly worse once you become accustomed to the flashy animations. You're still just mashing 4, you'll still be mashing 123 (With a lot less variety inbetween with plunge and bw weaves removed and your worse mana economy) and you'll very quickly notice that there's just no mastery to this degree of oversimplification. I wanted them to move forwards with the job, but the job just looks less interesting in Dawntrail.

Actually kinda merge salted earth with abyssal drain, so that you get a hot effect in salted earth. Maybe make it a circle of scorn with hot, even if you have to reduce it's potency. Don't think anyone will mind, if it does less dmg but gives you some much desired sustain

@@hundset Drk lost blood weapon and plunge. That's 6 buttons every 2 minutes. The one (and ONLY) new button we got is a gcd once every 2 minutes. The Delirium combo is still the *exact* same, it just got a new animation. By contrast, War got 2 new ogcd's on 60s cooldowns.. They're basically the same job now.

They really need to give DRK some more self sustain. The Shadow Vigil thing is nice and all, but with it only being available at 92 and on a 120 second cooldown it's just not enough, even with the Rampart Trait they gain. Carve and Spit STILL being linked with Abyssal Drain is utterly horrid without giving C&S the HP regen to make it a single-target/AoE variation between the two. Blood Weapon and Delirium should REALLY have HP regen too, even if it's the same potency as Souleater. I'd say to make it 400 instead, but either way it'd be fantastic. Also TBN still being 3000 when the only MP regen buff is Delirium effectively giving 800 per hit now instead of 600, it should have some kind of compensation for if it doesn't pop. Preferrably a 1500mp return.

Am I weird for not being upset about these changes? Would I have liked more? Of course (mostly just more survivability which we got but each tank got their own version upgrade) but really this just makes the burst stronger with flashier animations. I don't mind the plunge loss since I used it for mobility anyway and I don't find DRK boring despite it's already simple rotation. Like, I get directly compared to WAR (who seems like they continue to not even need a party) it's lesser. But really I'm ok with these changes.

It is very telling that you would feel weird for not being upset. There are for sure plenty of valid reasons to be upset at things in the game, but it's stupid that the expected default reaction to anything about this game is doom, to the point that people have to question whether it's okay that they are not upset. Not even happy about changes, but just "not upset"...

Not weird at all. The constant comparing to WAR has always grated me because *everyone* pales in comparison to WAR's ridiculous sustain that frankly shouldn't have lasted this long. Besides, the clamouring for more sustain hasn't bothered me since ShB. Literally just holding on to Abyssal Drain for a few more GCDs is a mini-Bloodwhetting for each dungeon pack, Dark Mind is a 60s Rampart in raids (99% of damage is magic, so it's basically irrelevant). The biggest pain point I had, Living Dead, has been fixed for a while. So overall, I'm happy. New burst buttons look great.

Nah, people just complain cause they compare things too much without allowing some jobs to be different and have identity. You have all the tools you need to survive. I don't know how people complain about "sustain" when you have what it takes to survive every dungeon pull if you play it right. Okay you don't see healing numbers like Warrior... So what, you pulled all the mobs and survived no problem, what good does healing numbers do you? On the other side of the spectrum it'll still be one of the go-to tanks for raids. The new animations are dope...I don't mind the rotation...I can still survive dungeons...I can still pop off in raids. Okay, TBN isn't the greatest but other than that I'm failing to see where I'm supposed to be whining about it. I like the vibe so I'm sticking with it, but someone might have to explain to me what the problem is. The Internet might tell you how they think you should feel, but I don't go by what people say, I go by my own experience. If you think it's cool then it's cool, F the whiners, they need to play less video games, get a job and move out of their parents' house anyway.

I find the comments about self healing so weird in this game like... As a healer main, I'd kinda prefer Paladin and Gunbreaker *lose* some self-sustain and just make it Warrior's gimmick. As things stand, I don't really feel like a healer when three out of four tanks don't even need me around unless they pull an ass-load of mobs.

I'm in the minority where I think DRK doesn't need self-sustain, I'd actually rather it get more powerful with HP loss as a way to make up for it. It would be in keeping with the theme of the job.

The only reason I want more self-healing on it is because I have way to many lazy/distracted healers. Like, when I play WAR, I only use the Bloodwhetting when my HP is actually getting low enough that I need it, and I prefer to use the rest of my mits and let the healer do their work. It’s more just I want the comfort of having the healing available should I need it in an emergency.

You should go to the official forums and check out the #FFXIVHEALERSTRIKE Many valid complaints from healer mains in that thread. Most notably that SE has made normal content too easy by giving healers and more importantly tanks too much agency. They just don't take damage (not you drk). Imagine pressing 2 ogcds then spamming 1111111 every w2w. That sounds boring right? Well that's healer gameplay and that's what this strike is about. The thread got over 100 pages in the span of 3 days. Unfortunately we aren't seeing much of a similar response from the JP community.

I like this because DRK has always been the MP management tank and ShB made it WAY too easy to never run out. This way, you have to actually be smart and weigh your options when deciding what to do and when.

Honestly, about as disappointing as I was expecting. Neat new flashy animations, and the class feels a bit less "smack heavy hunk of edgy steel around spamming the same exact animations over and over again", but it still hasn't addressed the main 2 criticisms against it. Those being: Blackest Knight is way too high level for what it is (sheltron/heart of stone/raw intuition), feels incredibly bad to use, and has had the same exact effect for several expansions now. And the other, being the classes pitifully low self-sustain when compared to the other 3 tanks. Seriously, why the second point especially was ignored is utterly beyond me. And NO, the 1.2k heal every 2 minutes at 92 does in no way count.

I think Shadowed Vigil should have came with 2 charges with reduced healing potency. If they did that, I feel it would have fixed the jobs self substain issue. A two minute cool down doesn't sound like something practical in dungeons or raid content. It's a step in the right direction however I think should have focus on fixing issues with the job instead of not giving us a kit of skills with poor versatility.

So now dark knight's Shadow Wall comes with a free Excogitation, nice... Wasn't Plunge the first ever gap closer? Other than Aetherial Manipulation, I guess. What happens to Enhanced Unmend?! Does it reduce the cooldown of Shadowstride instead?! Impalement icon looks fucking sick, looks like an eyeball staring at you. Warrior is the only tank job that should have had the "mash the same attack over and over again" phase, so I wish dark knight had their new Delirium combo at earlier levels. For now they are still stuck with ugly Bloodspiller spam until they get all the way to Dawntrail. Also would have appreciated an alternate combo to Souleater, I don't even care what it does. And more frequent use of Abyssal Drain, or a heal on Salt and Darkness.

Back in Stormblood, Abyssal drain was a spammable gcd and not this stupid shared cooldown with Carve n spit. They also had an alternate 1 2 3 combo that people referred to as an "enmity" combo. It had different animations (power slash my beloved). This is only the tip of the iceberg but SB DRK was peak. Shb ruined it all.

Dark Knight being exactly the same minus Plunge basically kills any interest I had for the job this expansion, due to how many problems it has had since the 5.0 re-work for Dark Knight, and the devs continue to add problems rather than fixing them doesn't help and those problems usually involve removing stuff for no reason, like Plunge since it could have co-existed alongside Shadowstride so long as they didn't share charges/cooldowns. Living Dead still sucks ASS, and I would rather it drop my HP to 1 but gives my the I cannot die effect but you still take the damage for 10 seconds and have the massive healing effect for 20 seconds. I would rather swap Living Shadow with a 7-step AoE GCD burst that's on a 30 second cooldown that also cost 3k MP, that applies a variety of of buffs to Dark Knight and a variety debuffs to enemies to give some much needed utility and MP managements and 3-4-step GCD burst combo that costs 3k MP but is on a 15 second timer, to help bring back MP management. Why didn't Dark Knight get and AoE Delirium combo? I would also prefer Dark Knight having the Scarlet Delirium combo be usable outside of Delirium for more flexibility so long as it still cost Blood Gauge. Still can't turn on Darkside outside of combat or during downtime. And still can't generate Dark Arts without TBN breaking first. And level sync for Dark Knight still sucks ASS because ARR content exists. Edit: Almost forgot that Carve and Spit still shares a cooldown with Abyssal Drain which needlessly hurts more than it helps, and I would just Salted Earth particle effects just outright gets replace by Salt and Darkness particle effects but keep Salted Earth's casting animation.

They need to get carve and spit off a shared gcd at least that would be nice. This expansion delivers exactly nothing new for the class other than one self heal on a 2 minute cool down.

SE will take every opportunity they can to disappoint DRK mains. They've been doing this for 3 expacs straight. I'm convinced they are connoisseurs in the taste of disappointment. If their goal was to make DRK mains a bitter as Dark knights are in game, they've done a good job. Yet another expansion of disappointment...

@@axylum4453 I don't know it is all that bad, these changes don't seem "terrible" (other than plunge, that is just stupid and frankly the "weaving" in this game is easy mode compared to MANY mmos) but it definitely is not impressive and is uninspired as hell.

@@DKarkarov I think you can agree that DRK hasn't received expansion worthy changes since EW. Enhanced unmend is a joke. Rotation is basically the same as Shb DRK save for some minor thing like living shadow no longer costing 50 gauge. Not interesting at all.

So instead of making the class REMOTELY INTERESTING. They just take away buttons AGAIN and do nothing else? Can't believe we really won't be doing anything but 1-2-3ing until every 1-2 minutes. They couldn't even give us a 30 second CD or oGCD to replace plunge. They really have been out for this job since Heavensward. New combo finally, oh it's on a 60 second cooldown. O new button, oh its on a 120 second cooldown. Amazing.

Hey you are wrong. You won't be 1-2-3ing every two minutes. You will be 1-1-1ing every 2 minutes. That delirium change replaces bloodspiller and it auto combos.

Great, the gap closer is now absolutely useless than for gapclosing. Plunge at least dealt some damage to aggro. Why even change it, when it's still only used on hostile targets? Not like it was in the way of weaving your ogcds, or keeping it on cd to not cap, because we'll still have to run out of giant AoEs and jump (now dash) back in.

You lose DPS during Raid Buffs if you don't use both Plunges during one.

@@AzureGreatheartMaybe SE should do their job as game designers and not lazily make every ability a uninteractive cooldown that can easily have its dps calculated on a spreadsheet to make balancing easy. DRK used to be about resource management, with both blood and mana. Now both of them are glorified charge systems that people hold because of 2 minute meta.

Just fewer buttons especially in pre-100 content. Really a shame. DRK is going to be even more boring to play 1-90 now. They're only replacing the two OGCDs missing at 100, while giving another OGCD loss removal (Blood Weapon) and fewer Edges to use during opener/burst. Not fun nor good.

This expansion kinda looks like a write-off for Dark knight. You just lost a bunch of stuff and the *only* new thing you get is a button you only get to press once every 2 minutes. Not once did i think they'd make the filler damage even more boring and braindead. Time to switch to melee dps i guess.

still no good self heals like other tanks. Sure 40% mit upgrade getting SCH excog on steroids, but GNB condrum has that too, so samey. Transfer Abyssal Drain heal effect to its line aoe darkness ability but only as the Free proc when TBN breaks or duration its ends, that way still has decent heal for dungeon mobs frequently. When TBN effect ends, it grants Obilation instead but it's own duration is the remaining seconds of TBN's cooldown. So you always have 10% mit on DRK when TBN isn't up, similar to PLD often having 15% mit from Shelltron early levels. Finally with Blood Weapon being Delirium later losing 2 GCDs worth if blood gauge. To make up for that, have Salted Earth regenerate blood gauge per tick now, like it use it before ShB.
