This is a really nice way to diy these systems. I love the idea with the rubber grommet, as it is reducing cost. I also like the nets you put into the buckets, although I could not find any of these to buy. For what it's worth, I'd like to share some different approaches I took in my dutch bucket system, which I personally like: - Fix the supply line to the wood, not the buckets. It makes it easy to swap out buckets. If you put the supply line on the same side as the drain pipe, you can just stick the drip emitter into the pipe. - Use standard irrigation tubing with the little thingies that you can poke a hole into your supply line. Much faster & cheap. - The small 4mm (1/8") micro tubing is sufficient. This will also reduce your problems on longer lines. - I use drip emitters with a little stake, so the line does not fall out on accident and drain your entire reservoir onto the ground. - I use 60/40 coco choir / perlite. That's preference, 100% perlite will word. There are up- and downsides, depending on your crop. - You did not mention your timer settings. I set my timer on 15 min for four times a day. - Finally, for a commercial grow I'd use bato buckets. They are not that expensive and the time savings are worth the extra buck per bucket. Thanks for the video!!

If you put your grouments in hot water,. They will become soft and easy to install. also, if you cut your PVC pipe on a slight angle it also is much easier to install into the grommets.

Im assuming the watering recirculates? How do/often to clean? What can/not be planted? What I need to install grow lights like I read need to be installed if I were growing things hydroponically indoors? Also are these buckets with perlite only used for starting to process, replanting something that has already sprouted, or from start to finish? I apologize for all the questions have never done anything like this but I want to very badly.
@completegrowing54276 ай бұрын
Water recirculates saving water. Just top off water, clean maybe once a year if needed. Literally anything can be planted. Even have papaya trees in the buckets. Grow lights indoors are needed. If only leafy plants you only need 6100K cheap LED. If flowering types like tomato and pepper you would need full spectrum lights. You can transplant anything into the buckets or start from seed. Thanks for the questions. Hope tis helped.

Hi, love the channel! I'm from South Africa, and just starting my system now. I have a question I hope you could answer. I see you have a cobble floor for your greenhouse, any specific reason why? I am thinking of a concrete floor for mine, would you advise that or not, and if not why?
@completegrowing5427 Жыл бұрын
We have different floors in multiple greenhouses to test. Concrete is nice, but expensive. Gravel on top of heavy plastic, to keep weeds out, works good but not as easy to walk on and not good for wheels. We put a painted wood (osb) floor on top of the gravel in the walkways to solve this. Been great now for 8 years. Rubber mats on top also works great.

11:40 Hey you mention keeping algae down. Is the idea that you're putting the tubing down a few inches into the perlite, so that the top layer - exposed to light - stays dry? Algae grows so readily where I am it's insane
@completegrowing54277 ай бұрын
Yes, but it still stays moist, so the best way to combat the algae is H2O2. Light spray of diluted solution and also some in your nutient tank takes care of the problem. (also great for the plants) I will do a full video on that next week.

@completegrowing54278 ай бұрын
With 270-300 gph pumps, 14 is about max if you do the tubing as shown at the end of the video. Rather not do too many anyway because it it easier to keep the nutrients full and controlled. Also the electric usage of that size pump is very low. Thanks

@completegrowing5427 Жыл бұрын
You can use gravel. You will need to water more often or even continually because the gravel does not hold much moisture. I have used gravel with great success. The net may not be needed if the gravel will not get into the tube. The net also keeps dirt, roots etc out of the tubes and water supply.

So what happened to the 1/2 inch sch 40 pipe ? Lacing that tubing thru all the bucket handles makes it impossible to remove one bucket without unlacing the tubing. You will have algae and wind problems with the perlite if you don't use lids on the buckets. Windy day and greenhouse door suddenly opens, perlite dust storm. Your stand is also not very stable.
@rplatow41202 жыл бұрын
Been working great for over 10 years. There is nothing perfect, especially to be affordable for everyone. We don't lace the tubing anymore anyway - easy fix.
