There's a lot of good advice here. I never heard of Panda Film before but I wish I had. I just finished painting 12 more buckets. I'm looking forward to giving it a try. I'll add a few thoughts. The drain does not have to be sloped. It will work just fine level. My buckets and drain both lie directly on my deck. Use silicone calk to "glue" the cap and elbow in place. That leaves them removable for cleaning. Some brands of perlite are very dusty. I had to switch brands of perlite to fill some of my buckets and there was so much sludge that it blocked the drains. Now I dump the perlite into a tub to wash it first.

Great job, can't wait to see the results with this system. The indoor PVC pipe system I made based on your videos produced a great lettuce harvest. I will try dutch buckets for my tomatoes now.
@emceeboogieboots1608Ай бұрын
Just made some myself using the same containers from my fresh wort kits😁 And I was thinking of using panda film for mine as well. My local hydro shop ought to have some. They sell all of the gear for indoor hydro as well. If it all works out with my capsicum, tomato, lettuce and spinach, I might try and grow some Esperance tomatoes😉 And I do need to put a brew down this weekend too

Next time get steel strapping, the zip ties won't last in the sun and the steel strapping is cheap. Sometimes called hurricane or cyclone strapping used in house frames and by plumbers for hanging pipe under houses. Love the videos dude. Keep it up

I concur...my zip ties degrade extremely fast w/ the UV in the southern states.
@Mracelocates Жыл бұрын
Marker 11:55 install a long screw at the bottom portion of the narrow side of the board facing out the pipe should rest on the screws and the elbow should descend into the receiving hole. Also you could use the zip ties to loop over the outlet pipe and support the pipe with the elbows.

Is the pvc pipe safe to use? Does it leach chemicals? The water reservoir is made of plastic as well. Does that leaches chemicals? I am using food grade buckets but how do you find the other items that are food grade? Or does it matter? Great video.
@SuperPussyFinger Жыл бұрын
PVC materials are highly carcinogenic, and are especially prone to leaching when exposed to heat and UV light. This absolutely can be uptaken by the plants, thus contaminating the food. Even when food-safe containers are employed, the pumps and tubing are almost always made from PVC.

I did much the same. Instead of 19mm drain tubes I used 13mm. I eventually stopped using it. The roots from the plants grew down the drain tubes and blocked them.

great build.wonder if you ever fitted float valve.its just that when you start your pump your water level will drop and float valve will start replacing that water and by the time the system balances itself out you could end up with a bit of a flood.

I really enjoyed this video. You do a great job explaining how these hydro systems work. I am using the same 20l containers you are using in this video. What would you recommend to cover the top of the bucket to prevent rain water entering through the top and diluting the nutrient solution? Is there a plastic lid alternative that fits over, Or is there no need to worry about it?

Really great stuff man, big fun here! What I miss though is really the water flow for the buckets, or the volume of the pump (l/min or per hour). Just put mine up but I do not get the flood and drain motion. Maybe somebody else can help out?
@MsSAinyourFace4 жыл бұрын
Two questions! 1: Why are you only using perlite on this one and not the perlite/vermiculite mix? 2: since you have the mini reservoirs in the bottom, does one assume that the paint strainer bags will reach and sit all the way to the bottom of the barrel? Then - aren't you afraid of water becoming stagnant? Keen to see the grow! Add chillies!!
@Hoocho4 жыл бұрын
Lallie here! Need mostly drainage for this one. The roots will leave the strainer bags and the nutrients will drip through and replenish the res.

For my failed Kratky system I used 20L white buckets and spray painted the outside black then resprayed them white with the cheapest nastiest paint I could find (fumes were almost toxic). The heat still did a number on them and got stuff all out of the system.
@Hoocho4 жыл бұрын
robert walker kratky is different, the buckets would heat the nutrient solution directly. These buckets are not completely full of nutrients. Which give a wider margin for error.

Hiya Hoocho, I've enjoyed your videos but I can't help noticing that your surrounded by some very fire volatile vegetation, depending on where you live in our beautiful country it may or may not be a problem, I'm in my 70's and for most of my life I was fire fighting both at the grunt level and Incident Controller so I know a little about fires, if your not positive yourself on whether you are at risk either talk to your local Fire Brigade or if you prefer you can contact me. I also brew my own BUT what is passionfruit larger 🤯 I'd hate to miss out on a good brew idea.
