To clarify for the 10:50 hammer "poise damage" changes. Yes, they wrote hammer "poise" is increased, not hammer "poise damage". They forgot to write the "damage." As you can see, charged R2 poise damage is increased. Hammer hyper armor is only added this patch (mentioned in a previous line of the patch note/video).

Giant-Crusher and Inferno Crozier R2s no longer have halved poise damage, so they are now the biggest stance-breakers of the game as they should be.

@@peepeestorm3187 no purpose? it's a huge fire aoe attack. flaming strike has like 30% of the range and that's the only other ash of war that even slightly resembles redmanes. it's absolutely not useless

The backstab attacks on daggers and reapers come out insanely fast now. I think just by extension of the increased attack speed, but you can backstab essentially on reaction when you catch someone facing the opposite way

Strike damage should be noticeably better against armor, so nerf heavy armor defense vs strike across the board. Nerf bleed in general Except for slash dmg. Giving benefit to slash. Exceptions to certain somber weapons.

As a claw enjoyer I love what they have done to them, I think the only thing that could make them better now is increasing the distance of the running r1. They don't have a good chase down move since the running r2 goes past people who roll toward you or sideways.

Using a set of claws in both hands gives you access to 1H attacks as well as powerstanced (by pressing L1 instead of R1), I've found that the 1H R2 is much better for chasing (only downside is that if you're using raptor talons, you don't have access to the double-hit unique R2.) Also, the 1H roll attack / crouch attack is much better in some situations than the 2H

Thrusting weapon counter attack damage nerf is great for the hard hitting thrusting weapons but seem like a big blow to lighter weapons like Frozen needle, Rapiers, and Estoc

From started with their customary nerf to the ground policy again. Some other weapons/skills disappeared overnight with this patch. Heavy thrusting swords are good for their running chase only. Flaming Strike is gone for good instead of its ghost lingering effect being removed. Rivers of Blood is seldom seen in pvp. Bloodhound step is back in its smaller brother quickstep now. It is always 2 steps forward, 1 step back, 1 step sideways with these people.

Thanks so much for this! So many changes are great, but I was really hoping axes would feel better after the buff. I think axes should have higher poise damage and either more damage or more forward momentum, putting them more in line with dark souls 2. Right now they still feel like worse straight swords. I also miss the 1hand r2s and running r1s from dks2 which were quick and had fantastic roll catch ability.

Ah, yes. They missed the damage part in their notes. Hyper armor did not exist for hammers before 1.08. (The addition of hyper armor is mentioned in a previous line and 2-handing does not increase this).

I was in the middle of making a Flaming Strike pvp build when this patch dropped. Does this Flaming Strike nerf affect the viability of the Catch Flame > Flaming Strike rollcatch combo?

As someone who lives and dies by the Raptor's Talons, these changes have allowed me to be a monster in PvP. Insane, unchecked aggression has become a regular part of my game plan, and I can just run up on someone and attack longer than they can roll.

The nerfs and buffs should be in smaller increments. I have many alternates for poise damage if they take away flame of the redmanes. Seems silly to target fotr simply because it happens to be the one people talk about.

Honestly the Colossal roll poke needs to be fast for it to be useful at all; was the only reason DaS3's UGS could be viable in 1v1 PvP, along with mixups. Quickstep/BHS are a problem, but honestly as good as they are (and given the animations they use) if I had my way I'd make them use the slower crouch animations to better balance them.

Also, would be nice if they buffed Shield Crash some. They made other hard-to-steer AoWs easier to control back in 1.07, SC lost status buildup and is way slower to bring up guard, and can be guard broken unlike Bash.

Chrightt, when you two hand a colossal type weapon and you get a 10% boost in attack, what does it mean. Say for example Keen Zweihander gets to 700 AR 2 handed, does the 10% make it into 770 that way it gets less affected by the physical defence stat that’s gained through leveling up and strength mostly, or does it function as a 1.1x multiplyer after all damage negation and defence are calculated. E.g in PvP it would be 480 but becomes 528 because of 1.1 multiplyer. If it’s the former that would mean split damage colossals get a bigger increase two handed.

Two-handing any weapon does not give a raw attack boost. It boosts your strength scaling by 50% (i.e. if you have 40 strength the weapon AR will use 40 * 1.5 = 60 strength to calculate instead). Higher AR with same MV = more effective vs defense to some degree. There is no additional 1.1x multiplier.

@@Chrightt I refer to the 1.04 update when they first sped up colossals, where outside of the strength bonus for 2 handing, they got an extra damage increase when two handing. I’m unable to confirm if they just modified the attack increase but setting the motion value 1.1 times higher. For example standard r1 has motion value of 100, but two handing may make the same attack 110 motion value but show very minimal increase in attack rating.

There is definitely an increase when 2 handing aside from the STR bonus. I deal more damage with the Coded Sword 2 handed which shouldn't happen as it doesn't have any STR scaling.

@@cherdnad2630 yeah I eventually figured it out for colossals it’s a 1.1 multiplayer of the motion value. As for straight sword you should try to test the same attack 2 handed like the crouch attack. Fairly certain the 2 hand neutral r1 has a higher motion value than 1 hand r1

@Cherd Nad @John Dang Ah, yes. In terms of raw AR they are the same. The reason is due to the MV of the attack itself. I had thought you knew about the different MVs already which was why I emphasized "same MV" in my previous comment. Sorry about that.

Woah, serpent-hunter changing to pierce is a big change. Although it’s heavier and has less range, it’s now more powerful than heavy pikes for strength builds. And the only way to get two of them for crouch poking is via a glitch.

There is 2 things I think you got wrong on this video: -Here (10:49) you mention poise damage for hammers was increased, but it doesn't say anything about damage. I'm sure it's just referring to the fact hammers now get hyperarmor on their attacks. (nvm you already replied to someone that pointed this out) -The other thing is related to the Club and Stone Club weapons. You say they didn't get hyperarmor on their attacks, but the other day I started a new game as wretch and I was tanking enemy hits while no wearing armor and my character would never get staggered. Astounding work as always!

Once I heard that a bunch of lightweight weapons got buffed, I immediately took it into both PvE and PvP and I am astounded as to how good fists in particular feel, which sucks because I love how they feel now, but I definitely think that they're going to be reined back in soon. Additional note for my PvE brethren. Occult Fist + Cragblade + bread and butter buff spells (Golden Vow & Flame, Give Me Strength) is horrific. Give it a try.

Keep in mind the attack speed of great weapons and collosals aren't even being reigned in at all. I highly doubt they'd do the same to fist weapons

Fists and claws are nowhere near dominant in pvp or pve. I would guess they're quite safe from nerfs

@@johnapple6646 You're definitely right, but thanks to their speed buff, they can true combo in PvP no (Running Heavy into uncharged heavy) and it can be quite devastating if they have Spiked Caestus or Star Fist and get that bleed off.

Unfortunately the stamina crouch fix makes light roll and BHS more problematic than ever. Also it should be possible to compare the bestial sling poise damage ingame, right?

Royal knights resolve is 180% stamina damage increase I believe, so against fingerprint shield poking its like having RKR all the time.

I have to wonder if Fromsoft is using an intentional strategy of over-nerfing and over-buffing to see how things play out and then choose the final balance point later. They seem to be doing that a lot. Would not be surprised to see that with flame of redmanes.

For the range and cost to use it, it's fairly balanced now. If it needs a buff, maybe a slight posies buff like you said and a slight damage increase. But yeah, it dealt WAY too much poise damage before.

And Chrightt is back again to help define what quality data looks like! The one hidden change I know of that you didn't mention is the changes to the forward momentum of some of these weapon classes. They weren't that much, but they just might help alleviate the crippling range of most of the hammers (my poor mace hopes so, at least. Time to bust it out again for some PVP testing).

They actually mentioned them in the patch notes (axe/hammer etc section and I added it for claw cause they didn't mention that). No real good way of showing forward momentum because it varied from move to move and weapon to weapon so I only mentioned it briefly.

Shield Bash regular here, not only does Shield Bash's guarding part of the animation not seem any faster it seems like it got a frame or two slower. Maybe I'm crazy but I didn't see any improvement for sure.

I just checked. Shield Bash isn't changed on both the greatshield/non-greatshield version. Did you perhaps swap from a medium shield to a greatshield? Greatshield's shield bash guard comes out 2 frames slower than medium shield.

I appreciate the boost to fists but they should never do more poise damage than swords, let alone AXES, pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Regardless I'm excited to jump in a bleed twinblade pve run now. Thanks for the hard dedicated work

Why 76 instead of just 75 poise ? 76 is only needed for powerstance heavy thrusting sword, which is rare imo. Shouldnt 75 poise suffice in general to tank moonveil beam, ps straight sword, and other common things in pvp ?

Yes, but that is because armors have float (decimals) for poise. It is possible to get an armor combination with 75 poise (that is actually a tiny bit less or a tiny bit more), so 76 to be sure. If you're reaching 75 with bull goat's though, it'll almost always work at 75.

It is supposed to be poise damage. They definitely wrote a bad line AND missed damage. As you see, the 2handed charged R2 is buffed 😂

You misread the great hammer change. It doesn't say it increased poise damage while attacking, it said it increased poise while attacking.

I'll paste what I wrote on the other similar comments: They forgot to write "damage". As you can see, charged R2 poise damage is increased. There is no additional poise for 2-handing hammers vs 1-handing it for hyper armor. In fact, hammer hyper armor is only added this patch.

I feel like slash damage should deal more damage when hitting someone out of a jumping attack... So that it can compete with the thrust counterdamage and increased poise damage of most bludgeoning weapons.

Question about twinblades: I'm pretty sure weapon enchants apply damage irrespective of motion values, so would buffs be powerful on the first part of the r1 slash of 2H twinblades when compared to keen or heavy? It's possible that it makes the first slash stronger but the second part weaker, but you land the first part easier so it might be a good tradeoff.

Did the powerstance nerf affect two handing claws? Although you get two of them when two handing, they are not technically powerstanced.

Are the axes the only weapons that got a damage increase? Also, do you know if there is a weapon spreadsheet with all the weapons? I'm aware of one but it's still showing the stats from Patch 1.05.

I encounter problem with unseen form and mimic veil. Charater doesnt go invisible and using mimic veil charater will shown as clip into the what ever form u change. Does anyone have this problem or only me?

Great breakdown as always! Wow. That Flame of the Redmanes nerf feels like a massive overcorrection. Was it OP? In PvE, sure -- I haven't played PvP so I don't know. Was a nerf in order either way? I can see that. But 40 to 10!? yeesh. Keep the things you love secret my friends. Keep them secret. Keep them safe.

They get found out either way. The devs actually play too. So they'll see the overpowered stuff in the game. And its easier to track now

100% nerfed for pve purposes, it sucked in pvp, slow windup, relatively short range and very easy to roll through or even jump over.

So how are axes and hammer's supposed to be used ATM (PvE) are they better for 1h + shield ,/ 2h or just use 2 of them now? I played axe on launch but wasn't happy at all with it.

I don't think I would 2-hand axes/hammers. Probably use them with shield/powerstance depending on your playstyle.

The poise changes are great, hitting 81 was very difficult and ruined the elden bling of several of my builds. 69 is much easier to to hit without mixing in bull goat pieces. Also want to say thank you for digging so deep into the data and giving such thorough info :)

How? My pure sorcery build at level 125 easily reached 83 poise. 57 vigor/30 mind/12 endurance/10 strength/67 int (Intelligent knot crystal tear+queen crescent=80 int) and the rest of the stats untouched. With queen crescent, tree sentinal armor, and crucible greaves I get 83 poise with great jars arsenal to increase equip load, bull-goat talisman for poise, crimson amber medallion+2, and radagon's icon. I'm sure I can lower endurance even more and increase vigor and still reach 83 poise with a different armor on, but these are just what I'm currently using.

@@ShahriyarAlam1 Brother you are wearing one of the heaviest chest pieces in the game, of course you are hitting 80+ poise. I've got a few builds that wear tanky stuff like that too, but it's nice to be able to wear some lighter stuff and still hit poise breakpoints.

Very informative! It really helps. It also makes me very glad that hammers are still good for posture breaking. The buff to colossal crouch attacks are very welcome, last patch they didn't feel useful even in pve. And with the bugfix to crouch stamina they will lose further strength. Same goes for powerstanced greatspears. The nerf to shield-pokes is nice, they were too powerful both in pvp and pve. But I worry that any shield below Golden greatshield is becoming obsolete in pvp. Rip to Flame of the Redmanes. Don't care much for buffing the speed, that would just make it flaming strike without followup. Nice nerf to carian slicer, though I find strange that they didn't nerf catch flame too. Also, club moveset is faster. Does this include the iron and celebrant cleavers? They look very similar but I don't know if they are the same moveset.

yesterday in the arena a guy would bleed me with one two-handed running R2 (with the peeler). my char doesn't have super high robustness though.

If they made FoR do like 20 or 28 poise damage then I think it’ll be good and balanced, 10 is overkill
